I'm pretty sure this was intentional, but "Edge of Tomorrow" is the movie adaptation of the manga "All you Need is Kill." I saw pictures from this movie in the manga, so I definitely think they're meant to be basically the same (with some American tweaks to name, location, ages, etc.) Here's the synopsis (for the movie): An officer finds himself caught in a time loop in a war with an alien race. His skills increase as he faces the same brutal combat scenarios, and his union with a Special Forces warrior gets him closer and closer to defeating the enemy.

How is Tom Cruise still an action movie protagonist? Isn't he like 100 years old? (I checked he's almost 52)

Apparently 'All You Need Is Kill' was first a novel published in 2004 that then became a manga by the same name published this year and also this movie, which has a different name and Tom Cruise in it.

This was actually pretty damn good. I was expecting another lame action-sci-fi shitfest, but it was actually.... no, that's pretty much what this was. Thing is, this one manages to be serious an funny at the same time, but without being campy, meta, or Tarantino.
Oh, and Tom Cruise actually plays a likable character for once. Who knew he still had it in him?

Wasn't this movie based on the manga, 'All you need is kill' ? ...The girls sword was also a buster sword from Final Fantasy,
And one of the insignias was from starcraft I think....But all together, the movie was great~!!

The movie was amazing though. Really enjoyed it and recommend watching it. :)
