A behind-the-scenes drama and espionage thriller in Cold War-era England that centers on a journalist, a producer, and an anchorman for an investigative news programme.
The period in which it's set, the 1950s, is one of the things that sets The Hour apart from other newsroom dramas. I think the show has a really great aesthetic because of it. It's also equally about the news making as it as about solving a mystery that ties together each individual season. The characters are are all compelling, are fleshed-out very well and I think basically all actors involved put on a great performance.
Unfortunately it's only got two six episode long seasons, because, yeah, it got cancelled. It's a smart and interesting show, definitely worth a shot.
