I haven't seen any threads about this movie, which is based on a book by the same title. This isn't a new movie by any means, over a decade old, but it's always been one of my favorites.
I went in thinking it was going to be a typical sad white blonde girl movie, but it was a lot more thought provoking than I expected.
Has anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

Mostly, I found it interesting in its mesh of thematic elements: obsession, the clash of social convention and religion, the line where religious piety becomes religious fanaticism, the value of women in society, etc.
