Clerks. is a 1994 American comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith, who also appears in the film as Silent Bob. Starring Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks and Jeff Anderson as Randal Graves, it presents a day in the lives of two store clerks and their acquaintances. Clerks. was the first of Smith's View Askewniverse films and the only one to date to be shot entirely in black and white. It introduces several characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob, who reappear in his later works, including Mallrats (which was set the day before the events of Clerks.), Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Clerks II.
Clerks, which was shot for $27,575 in the convenience store where director Kevin Smith worked in real life, grossed over $3 million in theaters, launching Smith's career.
Oh my fucking god, I watched this film for the first time last Thursday, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. Seriously, It's been less than a week and I've already seen it about 4 times. Then there's the sequel, and the 4 other movies that are also set in Kevin Smith's ViewAskewniverse (
Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). I haven't seen
Chasing Amy or
Dogma yet, but I'm sure they're bloody amazing as well.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who has a very open mind, a somewhat warped sense of humour and can stand a movie that consists mostly (actually, pretty much only) of dialogue. Trust me, you won't regret it. Unless you do, in which case, fuck you.
Official Trailer(Whoa. I wrote this thread in like, 5 minutes. Nice!
...okay, much of it was taken from wikipedia, but still.)
