I found the opening of the movie extremely interesting, what is the point of killing ourselves with school and college and work when in the end it's all for naught. It's much better to spend our time doing things we enjoy and living in the now instead of furiously planning for a future that may not come. Towards the end of the movie I was really disappointed that George ended up doing all of his work in order to graduate. The idea that we should just throw away all these meaningless systems and rules set up for us in order to do what we truly enjoy is portrayed as the incorrect thing to do and instead we should work hard so we can graduate from high school, go to a good college so we can get a good job and have a comfortable life, but all of this would be meaningless if we are unhappy with our lives.

I found that the movie had excellent potential to be something different something noteworthy but in the end it just turned out to be another lesson drilled into our brains to conform to the limits and rules society has forced upon us. But then again that's just my point of view.

This movie was ok 3/5. It reminded me too much of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" but it was a different also. I mean, the opening is really good and it makes you wonder and throughout the movie, George's character makes you wonder about certain things, but the way they are portrayed in the film does not really get the point across.

The ending was not disappointing (to me) with him finishing all his work, I think it connects to the title of "The Art of Getting By." He got by by showing he was capable of more than he lets off.

To me the lesson of the movie is that life is pretty scary, so we should make the most of it. There is more lessons in the movie. Like the beginning, we get that we should just do what makes us happy in life. With Sally's character, we learn that we can sometimes mistake friendship for love and love for friendship. With Dustin (who I hated very much), we learn that we have to express ourselves the way we want to. We also learn from the movie, that change is inevitable and there is no way of stopping it so we just have to go with it.

There really is a lot to learn from the movie, but I feel it was just captured wrong.
