Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is an upcoming Japanese anime action film that will be part of the Dragon Ball franchise. The film, directed by Masahiro Hosoda, will be released in Japan on March 30, 2013.
The storyline will take place between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, directly after the death of Majin Buu. The film will be an official part of the Dragon Ball storyline, and it is set between chapters 517 and 518 of the original manga, often referred to as the "lost decade" after the battle with Majin Buu.
Manga creator Akira Toriyama has been "deeply involved" in the production of the film, along with Masahiro Hosoda (the episode director of Dragon Ball Z) and Yūsuke Watanabe.
Toriyama posted a brief comment on the official website saying:
"Actually, it's the first time I've been involved deeply in the production of animation and scriptwriting. I've forgotten many things because it had been a while, but as expected of the original author, I was soon able to get the tempo back. This movie will have the original atmosphere and a little bit of modern flavor, so I believe it will be a wonderful entertainment just like old times!”

No Details of the movie are currently known as to what Goku and his friends have gotten their selves into, or who they are fighting or even why they are fighting them.

Somewhat looking forward to this, has to be better than the most recent dbz cash ins. I welcome anything that actually expands on the series universe rather than wasting everyone's time with a silly and pointless battle that nobody will remember.

A rabbit. Well, I mean, Goku has fought humans, namekians, killer aliens, demons, super-powered androids, dragons, and more. So why not a weird looking rabbit thing?
Let's get real, if it's good, that's awesome, and if it's bad, we treat it like everything else that has spawned from the Dragon ball Universe lately.

I am actually looking forward to this, but the only problem I have with it just from the look of the poster... Is that rabbit. I know Dragon Ball has always had weird looking characters, but I seriously don't see a rabbit being a villain other than Monster Carrot. I find it interesting that it is going to be part of the official Dragon Ball canon too so I'd like to see what Goku had to fight after Majin Buu before he fought Uub in the World Tournament.

Update:
The events of Battle of Gods takes place several years after the battle with Majin Buu, which determined the fate of the entire universe. Wiss and Bills, the God of Destruction, is tasked with maintaining some sort of balance in the universe. After awakening from a long slumber, Bills is visited by Wiss and he learns that the galactic overlord Freeza has been defeated by a Super Saiyan from the North Quadrant of the universe named Goku, who is also a former student of the North Kaiō.
Thirty nine years ago, when infant Goku was found in the woods by Grandpa Gohan, the Oracle Fish foretold by its prophetic powers that a strong opponent would appear before Bills, the Super Saiyan God. Bills tracks down this warrior, Goku, on Kaiō-sama's planet with his ally, the mysterious Wiss, and challenges him for a battle. Ecstatic over the new challenge, Goku does not heed Kaiō-sama's advice and battles Bills, but is overwhelmed and defeated. Bills then departs, but his eerie remark "Is there nobody on Earth more worthy to destroy?" lingers on.
The disappointment caused by the subsequent lack of challenge from Goku and the quest to seek out a greater and more powerful adversary leads Bills to Earth. The heroes and their friends are at Capsule Corporation, where Bulma's birthday party is held. Bills faces and easily defeats them one after another ― Kuririn, Gohan, Piccolo and Vegeta.
