Battle Royale takes place in an alternate timeline, in which Japan is ruled under a Totalitarian Government. Under the guise of a Study Trip, the military government forces a class of students to compete in a game called "Battle Royale," in which the students are then forced to kill each other until there is only one last standing person left in the fight.

Personal Opinion: Pretty much like the Japanese Version of Hunger Games, but more superior to it at a side-to-side comparison. Other than that, all movies have something different to offer, so yeah. Wuts ur take of this movie, crowd?

Battle Royale Manga was published in 1996 and the Hunger Games novel was published in 2008...so yeah I think Hunger Games is the cheap, American rip off version of Battle Royale.

Correction: Hunger Games is an american version of Battle Royale. Also Battle Royale is one of my favorite books ever. It's just so damn good. I know this isn't a Battle Royale vs Hunger Games discussion, but BR is just so much better because it doesn't pussyfoot around like HGs does. Royale gets right down to the killing. Which is awesome.

How about the sequel? Is it any good? I loved the first one, but never got around to watching the second one.

yea, i've yet to hear anything really good about it myself. i don't think it even needed a sequel; it was fine just as it ended

Always dreamed about what it would be like to be a part of the game... I never liked my classmates much.

The Hunger Games was awesome, but Battle Royale was much more satisfying. Although the story was great, the thing that annoyed me about the Hunger Games was how lacking in brutality it was. I'm not the kinda guy who revels in explosions and gore, but the action scenes in The Hunger Games made me feel sick (too much shaky camera, fucking censorship). Battle Royale, however was perfect. Everything about it was just so amazing, the plot, the characters, and the action scene were spectacular, and overall the film was just really well done. The sequel sucks however, don't watch it. It'll tarnish your view of the original film.

My favorite movie and beats hunger games any day

I love Battle Royale and I love Hunger Games but I hate when people make the comparison between these two.
They're actually quite different... I mean, yes the principle is quite the same, young people forced to kill each other until only one of them is left. But the context is quite different, and I think both of these stories are really good, in their own ways. However I can understand people who thinks Hunger Games movie lacks of brutality. But the book is bit more detailed, I think the combination of reading the book and watching the movie is good (because apart from that it was quite well adapted, it's not as if big parts were missing or what)

So I just finished reading the book, and honestly I wish the movie was more faithful to it than it is, they kind of nerfed kiriyama's whole character setup, the way mimura's plot ends in the book is waaaay more compelling imo, sakamochi makes a much better game master than kitano (and his character also makes much more sense), and then there's the whole ending twist, which I won't get into but it's seriously way better than the film. I was kind of disappointed in rewatching it after I read the novel :/

Oh yeah, and the whole point of the game in the book is completely different than the film. Also makes more sense, makes for a much more motivated storyline and ending. The lack of inclusion of the whole glorious leader thing and especially the speech really bummed me out.

I just watched this right now and I have to say that in comparison to the book, the book is better and things that I wanted to see that happened in the book didn't happen in the movie which sucked.
I have to say though the actress who did Mitsuko (so beautiful <3) did a great job. lol I expected Shuya to be like good-looking since a lot the girls had a crush on him, but that wasn't the case imo.
If you watch the movie before reading the book, you probably won't be disappointed, but as someone who read it first I was only a bit disappointed.
Overall good movie, it's worth watching for two hours. ^_^

there i a sequel movie,but it is kind of unoficial,because the writer of batlle royale din t have any kind of evolvememt.there was going t be a remake i 2013(i think it was that year)but since hunger games was already on the market,they give up becaue they sayed that that people would say batle royale is a rip off of hunger games(that is why i fucking hqte the hunger games,it has a shityy book,shitty movie,a shitty everthing.and i fucking hope that bitch katniss dies in the movie)anyway batlle royale is awesome,i have seen the movie,read the novel and read 3 volumes of the manga and it is epic,the first time i had seen the movie the next i was already buying the novel
