(Old thread recreated due to spoilers)

The Amazing Spider-Man is a reboot of the original Marvel movie series started in 2012, with Andrew Garfield portraying the titular role instead of Tobey Maguire. For fans of the original, do note that there are changes to the story compared to the first one (even taking into account the original comic book versions of his origin story), so it's not like you'd be reliving old content.

I thought it was really well done, all things considered. I was worried about his portrayal at first, but I rather liked the direction they took with characterizing him - in my opinion, compared to Tobey Maguire's portrayal, this version sticks closer to the comic book interpretation of a sarcastic and quick-witted superhero.

And the actor for the main villain was rather great as well. Overall, I'd say it's an improvement from the original series. And now I'm wondering if they'll go as far as crossing the new series over with The Avengers.

Seen the movie on Wedensday. It was great! But the game already out.

Your movie sucks, Maguire. But this one is better. Guess we should say you're not good enough to play Peter "Spider-Man" Paker anymore.

I heard that was the main reason why they did this reboot, was so they could actually tie in the multiple stories with the Avengers.
Let's not forget, the Avengers Project was around long before they even decided to reboot this series.

I really like how they made Spiderman a spider man, not just a man with some abilities like a spider. There are a couple scenes in particular that I'd mention, but I don't wanna spoil anything.

First Spider-man movie and probably going to be my favorite. I don't really get good vibes from Toby Maguire. . _. If only I had powers.

I don't think Toby Maguire did a bad job, I just think Andrew Garfield captured the character a little better. Toby had the nerdy photographer part of Peter Parker down, but Andrew really sells the whole sarcastic teen aspect that makes up a lot of his character as Spiderman.

I also think it's interesting that they went with the webs being artificial instead of how it was done in the first trilogy. If I'm not mistaken, that's how it was in the comics, right?

But on topic, it doesn't seem like he'd cross over into the Avengers just yet. Maybe after another movie in this new series, but not when he's just starting. I mean, they do have several years before the next opportunity, right?

Also, not to long after my brother and sister saw it, they kept telling me how the new Peter Parker reminded them of me.

Saw the movie today. I loved it! But I'm not really surprised that I am, I've been a fan of Andrew Garfield since Never Let Me Go and The Social Network.

I think it was well done, the sarcatic Peter we all know and love is there and him being shy around Gwen was cute too. Only thing I didnt like was how the Lizard looked... :/
