Do you think there should be a feature length Live Action film adaptation of the very popular Manga and Anime series FullMetal Alchemist? Under the condition that the story stays faithful to the origial storyline (Brotherhood) I think it would be a great Idea. It's almost MADE for English Film, the plot, characters, and the abilities aren't too supernatural. The characters names are also English.

Tell me what you think. Who the actors should be, and who should be the director if you want.

PLEASE REPLY!

2 Name: bang-bang : 2012-06-27 16:34 ID:TXfKClQY [Del]

Umm...no? Even though ok, if I really think about it in the most ideal way possible, with someone at the helm with enough vision to know what would translate well to live-action and what to tweak, it's not exactly an impossible idea. Except for the fact that a series is not really fit to be adapted into movie format.

But even if it could that doesn't mean that it should happen or that it's ever going to. And that may be for the best.

3 Name: Karloz : 2012-06-27 17:04 ID:EHfNpza6 [Del]

Hell NO!! Remember how the Dragon Ball Z live action movie turned out?? This would just ruin FMA's reputation!

4 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 17:24 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

That's cause those bastards made it UNFAITHFUL to the actual story!

5 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 17:38 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

Take The Hunger Games. I know it's not a manga, but this is a good example. Everybody on it's production was a fan of the book that swore not to make it a watered down version of a good story. Also I've worked with fourteen directors during my career, this gave me good experience to direct it myself if I don't find a guy willing to keep it original. I've went through every viewpoint for this! I've been working on this for two years! The only way to make it work is to base the first film COMPLETELY on the frist 11 episodes, disregarding episode 1 cause it was a filler. It would have to be a trilogy of PROBABLY six/seven movies in order to get it perfect, all according to the original manga series. I have dozens of connections to Warner Bros and Paramount! Think about it as LONG AND AS HARD AS YOU CAN. Honestly, Christopher Noland (Dark Knight), or Tim Burton or Brad Bird would be best for the film.

1-People will only comment on what interests them
2-People are less likely to comment on something when OP advertises the thread on a bunch of other boards
3-Bumping your own thread numerous times within a few hours and complaining no one's commenting on it is pointless and makes you look like an impatient dick. It's not like people are on here 24/7, and either way, Point #1 still applies.

8 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 20:10 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

I don't care, I'm bored as hell!

9 Name: Yatahaze !E/8OvwUzpY : 2012-06-27 20:18 ID:hWarx1kg [Del]

"impatient dick"
"I don't care, I'm bored as hell!"

Thanks for proving me right. I can tell you right now pretty much no one cares about your boredom to the point of letting you spam a bunch of your threads as advertisements and complaining. If you're bored, go eat something. Go outside. Go watch some TV. Read a book. Boredom doesn't condone bitching.

10 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 20:23 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

I don't think you know the meaning of I DON'T CARE. Well let me put it to you this way. I: as in ME, Don't: as in DO NOT, Care: as in GIVE A FUCK. So let's use the example I got here. I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST SAID!!! Now if you're done trolling around and being a dickhead, I gotta see what ACTUAL BLOGGERS think about my threads.

11 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 20:28 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

Jeez, man. I don't need to listen to what some lightweight cupcake ass bastard has to say about my thread. And PS, if you don't care, why'd you come back to see if I proved you right? Do you really care about what I have to say THAT much. Do you have a life?! Carrot Cake Cherry Topped fuck.

Don't spam multiple pages. And i for one think a live action movie for fma would be a terrible idea. An anime should stay an anime. Plus they would not be able to fit the whole 64 episode brotherhood series into a 2 hour movie. It would be terrible. Coming from a person who lives fma

13 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 20:34 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

>>12 Read my 5th Comment. I said, it would only work if the first 11 episodes were put into the first film. Each film should use ten episodes as a base. Read before you comment.

14 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 20:37 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

It would be at the very least a six movie trilogy!

Get over yourself.
Learn what "trolling" means.
I "came back" so to speak because I'm here on my iPod in a hotel room just checking in on the site before I chill for the evening and you happened to be the page I took a break on. It auto-refreshes. I'm not sure if you realize it, but I'm trying to give you advice. A bit harsh, yes, but advice. I care about this site's reputation and organization, and since I can see you clearly don't, my business is done here. I have no further reason to argue with you after this, but take a hint sometime. You don't rule the world, and I'm not out to get you, so don't get try acting all cool and defensive of someone's opinion. Sheesh.

>>13 regardless, it would still be terrible. And this is not mainly english adapted regardless of the characters' names. There are tons of anime out there that use english names instead of japanese names. And not all names are english. For example: May Rin, Shou May, Ling Yao, Lan Fan, Foo etc... Of course these are developed from chinese names being as they are all from xing. Still proves
My point though. And to name a few other animes that use english names: black butler, tegami bachi, soul eater, baccano, eden of the east, D. Gray man.. Etc. and if you dont believe me then watch all of them and i gurantee that you will hear english names. So even if they do make a live action movie. It will be filmed in japan and will most likely not get an english dub. It will probably also fail just like how they tried to make the last air bender a movie. Thats all i have to say.

18 Name: Century : 2012-06-27 21:12 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

Given it's only a few topics down, on the front page, I'll post my opinion, now.

You got to realize something, no matter how much you'd rather not listen.
We have rules. Thus, you don't have any right to spam the site with irrelevant shit on boards that it isn't for. This isn't your own personal site, to say, do, post whatever you want, then cock some type of attitude when people who CARE about the site tells you off.
We have rules. Follow them or hopefully get the fuck banned, and not bother us again.

Again. THIS IS NOT YOUR OWN PERSONAL SITE. Get over it and deal with it.

As much as this Century guy's annoying me... I for one think that a live-action adaption of anything is a bad idea, this of course, an opinion gained by watching various live-action adaptions.

Just think about it for a moment! Al in a realistic armor. The wiggly arms of the Truth. Envy's true form. I just can't help but think all these things will just turn into a giant ball of Narm if adapted!

I just don't think that it'll work. They would have to cut something major in order to fit it into a movie time slot, and the special effects would have to be ridiculously good.

I would be completely for it if it was done by someone awesome, for example, Peter Jackson (the director of the Lord of the Rings series), but otherwise, I think it would be better to stick with the anime ^^.

For The wiggly arms of truth, and Pride, that would be a READ problem. I say, try Cel shading. Al's armor, Bigger problem. Stop motioning a REAL suit of armor would work but would take too long. But it's the best idea we have so far. Envy's true form, and Sloth, I'd use the same animation that was used for the HULK. Alchemy, just make it the same way they did in the anime. But the Alchemical energy in the form of electrical discharge, simple, but not simple at the same time. ANIMATE LIGHTNING. But here's where it gets harder: we can't have it going in random very abrupt fast directions. We need it to have a circulating like motion through the object getting transmuted, and the object it's getting transmuted from, while at the same time, moving erratically. Also, Hiromu Arakawa had a color scheme for the Alchemy lightning that the didn't (Sort of) use for the show. She wanted the normal lightning to be yellow (In the show, it was blue), she wanted Alchemy Lightning Phisopher's stone to be red (it was.) She wanted Mustang's Alchemy to be orange, Scar's destruction alchemy to be black, Scar's reconstruction alchemy to be silvery/white, and Alkahestry lightning to be a bright purple.
For The wiggly arms of truth, and Pride, that would be a real problem. She wanted the normal lightning to be yellow (In the show, it was blue), she wanted Alchemy Lightning involving the Philosopher's stone to be red (it was.) She wanted Mustang's Alchemy to be orange, Scar's destruction Alchemy to be black, Scar's reconstruction Alchemy to be silvery/white, and Alkahestry lightning to be a bright purple.
It would have to be a saga of probably six/seven movies in order to get it perfect, all according to the original manga series. I have dozens of connections to Warner Bros and Paramount! Think about it as long and as hard as you can, Christopher Noland (Dark Knight/Inception), or Tim Burton or Brad Bird would be best for the film.
I PROMISE TO NOT LET M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN ANYWHERE NEAR THE STUDIOS, When you take every view point into consideration. you'll see why I asked about it in the first place. Christopher Noland. He's the only guy who can make a guy falling in a bathtub look cool. He could pull this off The new BATMAN DARK KNIGHT movie guy! Christopher Noland, dumbasses! Not the retard from the 1960s. The TV show from the 1960s was a comedy series that wasn't even good! I'm talking about the new batman which is all cool and deep as hell. He's one of the only guys that can pull this shit off without any flaws! INCEPTION, ANYONE?? If you saw that, then you know what Christopher Noland is capable of. Christopher Noland, The guy who took the mindless crime fighting of Batman and turned it into what it is today, or Joss Whedon, the guy who wrote the screenplay for The Avengers. I would definitely need those two to be on the crew.

NOw I WANT YOU TO TELL ME THAT I DIDN'T TAKE EVERY VIEWPOINT INTO CONSIDERATION (and mean it.)

Okay, Century, let me ask you this. Are you even working in the film industry or are you just another annoying teenager?

Let's take another of your viewpoints in (Kinda hating that word now) What the hell would Christopher Nolan and Josh Whedon want with FMA? They're not huge fans as far as I know and as you've said, the producers of The Hunger Games were a fan of the book so they didn't water it down. Who's to say that both directors wouldn't water down the adaption?

Maybe you pay them high to get them in but now consider this. Money. Getting both directors in would eat like half the budget and don't get me started on the actors and special effects. No one in the right mind in Hollywood would fund an live-action adaption of an anime after so
many failures of the such. You say you've looked at it in every viewpoint but you didn't even consider the fundings of the movie? Hell, ALL SIX MOVIES!? Money doesn't fall from the sky!

You say you've been working on it for two years. But there hasn't been any news of a greenlight for such a movie. Naturally, the first step to a film adaption is to gain the licenses from the original creator and that will immediately become public knowledge. So why haven't I heard such news? Maybe it's because in these two years, you've been sitting on you ass doing nothing?

So tell me straight, are you really working on a movie or are you an idiot who says things he'll never do?

92 Name: Century : 2012-07-05 18:57 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

>>91 I NEVER said that it was greenlit. I said that I would WANT Christopher Noland and Joss Whedon on set! I NEVER said that they ould be. It was all a vision. I WORK AS A STAGEHAND for Warner Bros. and Paramount! But I did like being on set.
It was all a vision. I chose my words carefully top make sure that single minded fucks like you, but you're too busy explaining to me why it's a bad idea. Key word: IDEA. It is an idea. It will probably NEVER happen, but it's FUN TO THINK ABOUT. This is why I posted it.

93 Name: BloodyPi : 2012-07-05 21:19 ID:zc/xKU6K [Del]

And I'm shooting those ideas because they're highly impractical.

Besides, you just can't take no for an answer can you? A lot of us have answered that it's a bad idea. Shut up an accept it dammit.

"I've been working on it for two years."

Working on what? That's what I was asking up there. Do you consider sitting on your ass thinking as work?

94 Name: Inevitable : 2012-07-06 19:26 ID:XA2/1Q1C [Del]

I personally think that it would be a terrible adaption. Hollywood tends to ruin great shows. Example-dragon ball evolution. Hollywood fucked that up. They're going to fuck up death note too. There also wouldn't be much of a point in making a movie exactly the same as the show. If they kept all the ideas and characters and made different events happen in the same setting, it would be worth watching. But not many people would have the right vision for the epicness that is fma, so it might be good, but most likely it wouldn't be.

95 Name: Century : 2012-07-06 20:33 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

>>93 You have no right to say that I did nothing unless You were there. I work as a stagehand for Warner Brothers and Paramount. I started as an intern when I was seventeen years old! I LOVE Cenema! I have a nice house in rural Denver and a girlfriend that loves me! But if it'll make you happy, I'll not visit this site again, I'll quit being a stagehand, I'll stop reading manga, and I'll get a job in engineering or carpentry. Will that make you happy?! You wanna take my career?!

Please, Baby Jesus, no. No way! Frankly all the movies that were made into Live Action were a bunch of crap. Do not let this amazing manga and anime series go down in flames. I don't think any anime series should be made into a Live Action movie. Sorry just my opinion.

The story of Fullmetal Alchemist is amazing and would make a good live action if someone did it right. Now i see a lot of people comparing this idea too the Dragon Ball Z movie or the Last Airbender, but think about it... those animes are very fantasy where as the plot, setting, and powers (alchemy, etc) are very realalistic. (FYI alchemy is actually a real thing)

Now i dont think ONE movie would do this story justice, ithink they should make a series of movies like harry potter or hunger games. The hunger games and harry potter are easy to make as a series because theyre books, but if you buy fma dvds theyre seperated into parts

I think that a FMA movie could work if they broke it down into several movies and make a series, but I don't think many directors would be able to do it right. Of the majority of anime that I watch I believe FMA is one of the ones that would be best in Live action, it could be difficult to do, but if the people on staff like it and want it to succeed it will.

107 Name: Anime : 2012-07-14 20:37 ID:Or0lB//Z [Del]

i like it as long as the actors look like the anime/manga charaters, cause i mean when you look at live action movies that are based on anime the characters look really diferant.
for example i watched dragon ball evolution (live action movie based on dragonball) and they got soooo many things wrong... i want to find the director, slap him on the face and shout at him every thing he ot wrong. (dont judge me)

112 Name: Century : 2012-07-18 21:22 ID:zCbXmSxn [Del]

>>108 Also, does owning a three story house mean you have an assload of money, because I don't think it does. I work as a stagehand, and I don't work on every new movie. Just some of the ones that don't have sufficient staff. If I don't get called, I get no money. Though, they never wanted me to be the head stagehand. I would get more money if I did.

Can you think of any actors that would be good to play Ed, Al or even Winry.... if they do I would kinda feel bad for the one to play Al, cause they would have to play the part in a really big suit of armor would btw has to be really heavy. Just saying....... but, yeah having a feature length Live Action film would be a good idea, just the thought of being able to see alchemy live sounds awesome!!

Well, this thread was amusing yet disappointing to read at the same time.

The thing about FMA is, it'd have to either assume its viewers is 100% people who know the show (bad for $), massively compress a section of the plot (bad for :D), or find a gap in the canon that still makes sense to relative outsiders while entertaining the main base (good luck). Its plot is just too wound together- 30-ish hours of one constant plot don't translate well into a 1.5-hour movie. Something like Cowboy Bebop might work better due to the fact that it is very episodic, with only a few 2-parters, so it doesn't suffer as much from the time constrants and has a virtually infinite timespan to work with.

Plus, from what I've seen anime doesn't usually translate into live-action all that well. *cough* Airbender *cough*

That said, if there was a good storyline for it and a decent production crew who knew the spirit of FMA, it would be fun to see.
