I had the urge to test out this whole thread business, so I thought the easiest thing would be to try out the films category.

I just watched Sucker Punch on DVD after a very strange friend of mine insisted I watch it, I have to say...I was throughly impressed. The plot/story line was really interesting. I thought the idea of a sub-reality within a reality was cool (though thats idea's been used before) the new thing I'd never seen before was a dream sub-relaity within the sub-reality, how fucking awesome was that?

The film's characters are interesting, especially Baby Doll, who seems so quiet and innocent until she shoots a samurai in the face. I can see how the film could be critiszied for things like the skimpy outfits the chracters wore and the intense sexual references (especially in the brothel scenes) but, this is my interpretation, it's almost as if this was done on purpose to make it seem all the more empowering when those fragile girls in skimpy clothes turn around and kick ass in the films many battle sequences.

Unlike most movies I watched I actually loved the ending of this one...but just in case I've convinced you to watch it I won't ruin it for you.

Has anyone else wathced/enjoyed this movie? Even if you hated it I'd love to hear your opinion, and if I convinced you to watch it then...kudos to me.

watched this in theaters really liked it. but everyone i went with said they hated it and it was bad. couldve been so much better

i loved this movie, a beautiful girl with a beautiful story to tell, the only thing i didnt like was the ending. i definately would have ended it differently.

i myself totally loved this movie. but a lot of people i know didn't. they all complained that there was next to no plot. but who cares. i loved it! XD
i especially liked the music for the movie.
when i had my friend eve watch it she fell in love with it too! :D

Hmmm.. I thought I saw another thread of this somewhere.... Oh well... I thought this movie was too simple. I thought there was too much skin showing in 2/3 of the worlds and the main character rushed with her escape plan. :l

I've seen this movie too. I liked it - although most, even my boyfriend, hated it.

What i liked was the different realities and it just lets me imgine what "really" went on. Because the sub-sub-reality was just a metaphor of something that did go on. But its left for the viewers to think how it all went down. Another thing I loved was teh music - it was perfect and went really well with each scene. Lastly, I like all the eye-candy and how pretty the first sub-reality was (snow and all). Sexy and kick ass. :)

What failed short for me was the plot. It was simple and kind of corny (especially when Babydoll discovers what the 5th "key" to the puzzle was). It was expected.

What my boyfriend hated was seeing how evil the men were to the women. The way they were treated as objects and easily destroyed without a second thought. Yes, he's quite the gentleman. lol and he couldn't process all the different realities - too confusing for him.

But overall, I enjoyed it a lot. :)

I really didn't like this movie at all ><
It was boring and there wasn't any good story behind it.To me it seemed as if they just wanted to put some fighting scenes with special effects together.

Not a bad film actually. It could easy get confusing with all the different realities, but as long as you're not stupid you'll be fine. If any anime would be turned into live-action they should get whom ever did the effects and storyboard.

Bad azz movie, bad azz chicks, and bad azz music, like Armagedon's mash up I want it all, and Emily (forgot her lasT name) Sweet dreams! I like the asylum/brothel, the Actresses, odl dude was cool, and the atmosperes they traveled to to get these simple oBjects. If robbing anything was that awesome id be a master thief for a living.

When I went to see it, I bought tickets for Sucker Punch but went into "Paul" instead. Then the guys that work there caught us and made us leave and go see Sucker Punch. I was pretty bummed out until I actually watched Sucker Punch. It was badass as you guys already pointed out.

I loved Paul. It was funny as fuck.

Just watched this movie. Could have been better.
I think the plot idea was good, but could have been executed better.
All the main actresses were pretty. The acting however was so-so. The costumes and action scenes were great. Soundtrack is mostly great. I listened to it a while back before watching the movie, so two of the songs sort of sucked without the movie, but with the movie it was better.
I liked the whole fact that we never got to see Babydoll's dance.
Also, despite this movie being really sucky, (lol I know I said good things about it, but honestly like I said the plot was not executed well and that's a really big factor when I'm judging whether a film is good or not) I think if you watch this movie for it's visuals you will like it. This movie is more of a creative piece of art. If you're not going to like it, at least like it for it's art.

I agree, this movie was pretty good. I saw it with my ex when I was like 11. It's hard to believe this movie is that old already. 7/10

At least with inception they attempted to DPLAIN all the alternate realities, but in this movie you literally couldnt tell what was going on with who, and how, because it was three different realities and they were all completely different, and the entire movie was mainly in the second and third one, with the first one only appearing in the beginning and end of the film, making it almost impossible to discern what had been happening in THAT reality.

Yeah, the plot sucked, but the imagery and fight scenes were all that's good.
They didnt even show Baby's dance...

I'd say 5/10. Maybe even lower.

lol Oh Sucker punch. I liked it. I mean you have to think about what the story is trying to symbolize. I watched it twice just to make sure I knew what was going on. If you take this movie literal then its probably a 4/10 or something. If you think about it for like 5 minutes... or however long it takes you to figure it out. It easily become a better movie. I think its a 6/10 not the best but a little above average.

A lot are complaining at how the movie sucked ass. But I think, it's not that bad as long as you put your thought into it.

The movie would've made more sense if they switched from the sex slave fantasy world to the actual real world a little more often. Because like I said before, they only really did that in the beginning and at the end, your left you're wondering what is the equivalence of Baby Doll's dance in the sex slave fantasy world in the real world of the asylum?

I'm willing to overlook the death of Rocket AND Amber in the sex slave fantasy world never being portrayed in the real world, but something really doesn't make sense:

Dr. Gorski was perceived as their dance instructor and under (the orderly! Blue's command. She was supposed to be someone with a lower authority than Blue. So when Blue slaps Dr. Gorski and murders Amber while Dr. Gorski is in the same room, it makes no sense for it be revealed that in the real world it's Dr. Gorski who holds more authoritative power and arrests the orderly for the lesser act of forging her signature.

Which means that the plot hole fucks up everything after Rocket's death in the sex slave fantasy world.
THAT'S WHY the concept was nice, the fight scene we were good, the visual affects were really nice, but none of that shit matters if it's bad storytelling.

There's a part after the lobotomy where Dr. Gorski starts saying all the stuff Babydoll has done in the asylum (i.e. setting fire to the door, stabbing someone, helping one of the girls escape, I think she even killed or fought one of the girls, but I'm not so sure).

this video explains it a bit, but even so it's like wtf happened in the asylum.

I think it would have been executed better if while Babydoll was dancing we could see those scenes where they are fighting, but in between we can also see scenes of her in the asylum doing whatever the fuck she was doing. Would have made it more interesting and it wouldn't have lost it's artistic value.

I was kind of surprised how good this movie was. I liked it a lot! :)

I saw this movie, it's pretty good. If you like the imagination, the adventure and the girls, this movie is for you.
