>>14 The only reason that Lisbeth had all those piercings and tattoos was because she had been abused her entire life to the point that she couldn't trust people anymore. She wanted a way to tell people to fuck off without telling them directly. She has her tattoos because of her photographic memory, she couldn't forget what abuse she had been through and so let go by having a symbolic tattoo put on her body.
I'm doubting that you actually went and saw the movie at all. Because the point of the movie isn't just abusing the abusers. That's only during the first half. How the fuck else could Lisbeth get even? She couldn't tell the police, she had been labelled 'crazy' even though she clearly wasn't. Because of Bjurman's position in society the only way to teach him not to torture was to torture him. The same way that parents hit their children.
Once you get past the first half of the movie and Mikael and Lisbeth get together, they find out that there is much more treachery in the world than most people realise. Because it turned out that Harriet wasn't even dead, that she had just run away because her father and brother were both sadists, perverts, rapists and murderers.
There is essentially no theme to the movie, as the book that it is based on by Stieg Larsson wrote it in favour of women to show the world about those who had been abused. To fight against the sadists, rapists and perverts that hated women.
