The year is 1957 and America is swept up in Cold War paranoia. A young boy with an unfortunate name and a bad habit of bringing home stray animals is up one night watching cheesy horror movies and eating whipped cream filled Twinkies his TV's reception all of the sudden cuts out.

Eager to get back to his program, he climbs up on his roof to inspect the antenna, only to find that it is missing and the broken-down tractor in his yard has a bite taken out of it, while a mysterious trail leads off into the woods. Being the adventurous young man he is, he arms himself with his B.B. gun and rushes out to follow the trail, ending up at a power plant where he sees a giant metal man eating the steel equipment.

The Iron Giant is an animated film released in 1999 and directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles) and is probably one of my favorite movies. It really captures the atmosphere of Cold War america as seen from the eyes of a dweeby kid while not child proofing the world he lives in. It is a solid argument against anyone who thinks grown-ups and kids can't enjoy the same kind of movies, and by taking the 'boy and his robot' or 'giant robot attacking 1950's America' and doing something good with it really shows that any idea can be good if properly executed.

Oh yeah, and it will probably make you cry. Either manly tears or those of the womanly variety.

OHWWWWW MAAAAWWWWW GAAAWD!~!!!! IT'S THE GIANT ROBOT I LOVED WHEN I WAS A KID!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! AND LOVE IT UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!

I loved this movie, i cried when he blew up but then i got better when i saw pieces coming together :)

I loved this movie, though sometimes when I was still young I wished there was a sequel that reunites the boy and the robot back together.

i really don't think we need a sequel. the story was told, and if you miss it you can always watch it again. what you should do is look for other things that the creators had made.

but really, most of the time sequels are just poorly thought out and half assed. all they really do is attempt to grab some more of your money by draining an idea for all it is worth.

just be glad with what you got, cause you rarely get a sequel worth a damn.

Unfortunately, it's a dying breed of movie.

This movie is indeed a classic. I used to watch it several times when I was young, until I lost the DVD. This is probably one of the movies I'll always remember.

This is to good for a sequel. It was a good story that doesn't need to be continued, for the same reasons 11 said. And anyway, the charecters will always be in our hearts lol.
