Foreign Movies (6)

I've seen some foreign asian movies that are pretty good with the story and the actors. To me, foreign movies are better than (some) American movies. Does anyone else have opions on foreign movies or any good suggestions? I really liked Moon Child and The Man From Nowhere.

I try to watch foreign movies from time to time though there's probably a lot that I'm missing.

Pan's Labyrinth is a really good spanish movie. And so is another one directed by the same guy, Guillermo del Toro, called The Devil's Backbone.

I should really watch more french movies, but right now Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain is the best one I've seen.

And then there's this really awesome vampire movie I saw, Let the right one in from Norway. Pretty different from your usual take on vampires being these beautiful and graceful creatures.

That's all I can think of right now.

Well, the only two movies I've seen in Korea is "Tae-guk-ki" and "Welcome to Dong-mak-geol". (Not sure if I spelled it correctly; I'm not too good at typing like how it sounds.)

Taw-guk-ki is basically a war movie, but it's really good. It basically focuses on two brothers during the Korean War.

"Welcome to Dong-mak-geol" also takes place in the Korean War (i think), but it's very different from Tae-guk-ki, because it's a hilarious comedy. I recommend it!

I think that most foreign movies are free from the influence of studios, trying to shape the film into something that will make money in the boxoffice. They are more original and the directors are allowed more free reign.
Also, asian cinema seems more free in story structure, films are allowed to have "sad" or ambigious endings.

I've seen some Spanish films I really enjoyed such as Pan's Labyrinth, El Ladron Que Roba A Ladron, El Bola, and El Orfanato.

Out of the four I'd have to say Pan's Labyrinth and El Bola are my favorites. They were both wonderfully done! In fact they are two of my favorite movies I've ever seen. I really have gotten into foreign film lately.
