Why no Hunger Games thread?

I just finished reading the series a couple of weeks ago. And I though the story was really good. What's everyone's opinions on the upcoming movie?
Team Peeta or Team Gale?

2 Name: V2Blast : 2011-07-28 05:22 ID:s7+dtkQt [Del]

Ah, a fellow fan. I think I posted a Hunger Games thread in Literature, but not here.

I liked the first two books, though I was a bit disappointed in the third.

I can't wait for the movie, though.

Also, Team I'm-going-to-punch-your-face-in-for-asking-that-question-because-the-story-does-not-revolve-around-the-romance-like-Twilight. (Yes, that was a bitch to type out.) ...Though I do like Peeta more than Gale.

3 Name: TensaZangetsu : 2011-07-30 08:37 ID:AHY0jgzh [Del]

Same feeling as you V2Blast. The 3rd was a bit disappointing. I'm looking forward to the upcoming movie.

4 Name: Breathing Slowly : 2011-07-30 21:19 ID:ipYLKAM4 [Del]

Did you hear about who are the actors for the new movie?
I agree with the idea that "Mockingbird" was upsetting in comparison to the first and second book though.

What exactly did you guys dislike about it?

Have you guys seen the teaser trailer yet?

I'm so excited about this movie!! I just hope they don't mess it up......I really liked the series (though yes the 3rd was a bit of a let-down...) and I really want the movie to be good!!!

i'm still pretty excited to see all the action from the books in a film, however i wish they hadn't "white-washed" the cast :/ there would have been perfectly good actors/actresses who aren't caucasian who would have done just as good, if not better, of a job than the actors signed on. it's like avatar: the last airbender all over again.

9 Name: boombang77 : 2011-09-01 18:53 ID:fIJ9W8Gh [Del]

i have this feeling the movies are gonna be like a complete screw up compared to the books which were awesome knowing hollywood there gonna cut scenes out and mess with the story line

Saw it.

Book > Movie in my opinion, by a long shot.

A ton of the action scenes were quick / blurred, not as intense as I had wished. They changed quite a few things in order to frame the story for a movie, but those changes bothered me.

Overall, B-

hungerrr!! I read the books and I LOVED it! But actually, I'm not as addicted to it compared to the Harry Potter series (personal opinion only). Yeah the movie was good but I totally compared it to the book.

>>20 Lol your tripcode.

I would've watched the movie, but I was intent on finishing the book before the movie. Also, am I the only one that was incredibly unamused when this book first came out?

Originally, I thought it was a rip-off of Battle Royale, with the whole 'survival game' concept. I still think it is, but Battle Royale and the Hunger Games definitely have their differences. As of now, the book is proving to be an enjoyable experience for me. Better then Twilight, at least. :I

Oh yeah, and Team Peeta has caused an influx of bread pun/memes over the past few days. I'm not sure if I should be happy or upset.

24 Name: mei-chan : 2012-03-23 20:48 ID:+cAsHBlN [Del]

i dont like the actors for peeta and gale, peeta's actor doent even have blonde hair and gale's actor looks too old.

25 Name: Feral : 2012-03-23 23:08 ID:a6GqzrlL [Del]

>>23 I agree with the Battle Royale similarities, as well as their fundamental differences.

I just got back from seeing the movie, and while I had already anticipated the film adaptaion to not be as good as the book, I thought that it could have been worse. To be honest, after seeing so many other movies dash my expectaions over the last few years, this one was absolutely fantastic.

26 Name: Astin !!kH7cX06q : 2012-03-24 00:22 ID:gVIIqwoS [Del]

The movie was ehh......could've been better. One of the main things that bothered me though was that Josh Hutcherson (actor for Peeta) is shaped like a brick >> Click for Proof However, I did enjoy the music from the movies very much ~ Well although..they did change parts form the books overall, the movie was worth watching ~ B+ imho

Just saw it two days ago and it is SO EPIC. I haven't read the books, but the story is so amazing. All the characters are really great and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Looking at the technical parts of the movie, it was decent. The shot selection and weird changes in ISO were jarring (in a bad way) and didn't contribute to the story in any meaningful way. Also the last fight scene was awful. The only action part I really enjoyed was with Rue, but that whole sequence was really well crafted.

That being said... go see it now. It's amazing.

31 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-03-25 19:46 ID:yXiHl0fT [Del]

I haven't read the book, but I'm paraphrasing my friend's thoughts on it. I saw the movie, and I agree.

It may have been a little bit rushed, but for all the detail in the book, they did the best they could for a 2 and a half hour movie. It was very well done, and I was hooked the entire time. There are just some things they absolutely couldn't have kept in the movie with the same effect - the books were from the perspective of a single character, while the movie was from a 3rd person perspective. While it lacked the inner thoughts of the character, it portrayed it well as far as acting goes.

Without comparing to the book though, I thought it got the message across really well. The acting was pretty great, and it did a good job of replacing what would've been narrative with acting alone. I had never read the books before either, so the whole setting was really interesting. People have already made Battle Royale references, so I won't; but the whole dystopian feel, and the disillusion of the nobility and the drastic difference in perception between the high and low class was chilling.

I don't really want to spoil any details for those who have neither read the book nor watched the movie though, but I highly recommend this movie. It wasn't the best movie I've seen or anything, but it's definitely worth the watch.

32 Name: SaintSoul !iv7VSm0lRw : 2012-03-25 21:02 ID:eKm9FM4l [Del]

I just watched this, and I feel like I just drank three cans of Monster (energy drink). I have to admit, the diversity of the cast and how they were described in the book annoyed me a little, but I can't blame the director, they were great. The fight scenes felt so real, and the design of the district 12 fit exactly what I thought it would look like. After watching this I realized how well built the book is, because Suzanne Collins must have a literature vocabulary because it seemed a bit like a mix of 1984 (A Big Brother kind of book), Lord of the Flies, and a few other classic social class books. The difference of each class was really defined well, and I am proud to say this, I hate Cato (I really truly do, and I hate him more because I watched the movie and experienced his arrogance on a higher level.) Specific scenes in the movie were really emotion provoking, but I hate that I can't disclose any of the scenes because some of them are spoilers. I hope they'll make a sequel of this, and on a scale of one to twelve, it's a twelve (you may think otherwise, but this is my opinion). Twelve is not a pun. I prefer District Eleven.

I saw the movie the day that it came out. It was the best movie I have ever seen!

34 Name: Soraya : 2012-03-26 22:56 ID:OcneetoW [Del]

I saw a day after it came out cuz I couldn't get tickets for the midnight premiere :( but it was totally worth the wait. It was so amazing! The entire the anticipation of what was going on and what would happen next had me on the edge of my seat. I'd say the director did a fantastic job and I would love to see it again. The actors did a phenomenal job I don't think I could've chosen anyone else better to play the characters they did. I read the book and I thought it was pretty much stuck to the book the entire time and got the point across even if it did seem a bit rushed.

42 Name: Cyclone : 2012-03-29 13:03 ID:omvRKEBy [Del]

I saw the movie at the Midnight Premiere and I loved it! Sure, they had to change some things but I still think they managed to make it one of the closest to book, movies I've ever seen and I personally believe that's because Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay. I enjoyed it so much that I went and saw it again on Saturday with a friend and it was still amazing a second time. My only complaint is that the camera shaking kind of took away from the movie, except in the Cornucopia scene, I felt that the shaky camera was fitting there since it creates a sense of confusion and jars you. But overall if you haven't seen it yet, go see it as soon as you can!

43 Name: Vives !0qvjPx3R8I : 2012-03-29 22:08 ID:7iIq+0cN [Del]

>>42 I agree with this. It was seriously one of the best adaptions of a book I've ever seen. When I got out I was almost pissed off that they couldn't have done the same with Inkheart or Eragon...

Also, I began to appreciate the shakiness of the action scenes... It was like they were showing it from the character's point of view. It helped the movie with expressing those parts I think. It was definitely interesting, because this movie managed to show violence and death and killing, without being graphic.

The casting was good too. I really think so. None of the characters were overly-pretty. Peeta is brick-like, and Gale is sort of wiry, and Katniss is the right shape and size and is very believable. I'm also glad that they made Rue black. I was afraid they wouldn't. The acting was believable as well. Most of my friends said they cried during... that one scene. It was definitely an edge-of-your-seat kind of movie.

Having Suzanne Collins help with the creation of the movie was a really great idea. Why don't they always do that with book-to-movie adaptions? Just take a look at Holes or The Princess Bride...

Team Gale!!!
I really think they did a great job representing the movie in a way that didn't disrespect the movie. Reading the book before seeing the movie is always a great idea, but it's not necessary in this case. I was really pleased with The Hunger Games, and I can't wait until the day I get to bring the movie home with me! :)

I thought the movie was pretty well done. They toned down some of the violence but that was to be expected. I liked how they had scenes with the gamemakers, it made the whole game make more sense.

51 Name: Anonymous : 2012-04-01 14:56 ID:2+vhyMUd [Del]

I thought it was interesting that they kinda made Seneca Crane look like the bad guy (before something bad happened, they'd show him planning it out.)

But when someone mentions Hunger Games, it kinda makes me upset that the common response is, "Oh I love that! Peeta or Gale?" There's much more to it than that...

64 Name: Vix (Izaya) !.DMN.R8UpM : 2012-04-08 18:08 ID:+fMkMUja [Del]

Ah.. I absolutely hated the series. First book was decent enough for me to want to read more. Second book sucked. Third book sucked even more. I didn't see the movie because I was so let down by the books; her writing style is so bland; no descriptives (except for the costumes) and absolutely no interesting emotions shown. Like, for example, for the ones who like to pair Katniss and Peeta or Katniss and Gale- there's absolutely nothing to support either of the couples. Katniss barely describes her feelings, and when her and Peeta kiss, no emotions described either. Not, "My heart skipped a beat as our lips met, but I wondered why..." It was, "Peeta and I kissed and went to sleep." Completely boring and tasteless.

I thought the book would end as some interesting, twisted cliffhanger, but it was so boring and uneventful I can't even remember what happened. But anyways, is the movie worth seeing? Is the ending as boring and cut-off as the ending in the book?

65 Name: Ikaros : 2012-04-09 01:57 ID:uWRHvvM7 [Del]

I really think that the movie acurately depicted the book. I get the feeling though if you didnt read the book you mIght be really confused. Thoughts anyone?

I personally like the books but have yet to watch the movie, I heard a few things were changed some of which were major but for the most part its relatively close to the book. I would still recommend reading the book before watching the movie.

68 Name: Ikaros : 2012-04-09 10:00 ID:xQVgsgTM [Del]

>>66 i feel like you should read the book first. >>67 yeah they actually changed a lot but it was stuff that was like really unimportant like where she got the mockingjay pin.

69 Name: Rizaya : 2012-04-09 13:02 ID:K2QWyNxX [Del]

Team Gale.

I thought the book was waaaaaaaaaaay better than the movie just because the movie left out a lot of stuff (for instance when she gets the pin in the movie I almost rage haha) But the movie was still pretty good I guess.

70 Name: Yubi : 2012-04-09 14:58 ID:18rvGMFW [Del]

Though they changed alot of scenes from the book in the movie, I kind of think that it was important to do so. The movie was not in first person like the book, so unless they changed scenes around a little, they would not have been able to convey the proper information. I think that both the book and the movie were good, some scenes in the movie were better than in the book and vice versa.

71 Name: Ikaros : 2012-04-09 21:06 ID:uWRHvvM7 [Del]

72 Name: Ikaros : 2012-04-09 21:08 ID:uWRHvvM7 [Del]

yeah it makes sense were they changed stuff
>>69 it really doesnt matter where she got the mockingjay pin. the mayor's daughter as a character was largely pretty unimportant and thats the only thing that matters in terms of where she got the pin

pairings? hmmm.. naah. me don't wanna

76 Name: Axel Faraday : 2012-04-11 07:24 ID:zLeksxQ4 [Del]

Also the way people kept telling me in school to go see it at least one person literly said, "Hey I know your a sadist so you will love this movie." I'M NO SADIST! I used to cut but that was because of a deep battle with clinical depression. Its not a film I reccomend.

77 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-04-12 02:30 ID:F86fCMoY [Del]

The moral controversy is the entire driving point of the movie. If someone told you to watch it because it fulfills a sadistic pleasure, or if you watch it because of a self-defined sadistic pleasure, then you're missing the entire point of the movie. Hell, if you think the main point was about murdering a bunch of kids, you're still missing the point of the movie.

Nobody makes a movie about killing children for fun - there's a message behind it, and it's part of a larger story that you aren't grasping because you try to link it with sadism.

Please don't start that team crap from the Twilight series in here, this is an actual good movie, though the only thing that TRUELY aggravated me about the movie is how she got the mockingjay pendant at the hob, instead of Mags giving it to her, seeing that made me yell out during the movie, and almost got me thrown out, was anyone else upset with this besides me?

yes, I'm with Neko on this one, this team thing kinda tears fans apart and they beat each other with shovels XD (Yup, from Vampires Suck.) but if I had to choose, It be Peeta, sense We barely know Gale and stuff, but i don't think katniss is gonna marry anytime soon...

I read the Hunger games, but I didn't like it I have no idea why everyone likes it so much! But that's just my own opinion. I'm not trying to say that it was a horrible book ,I just didn't like it.

Saw that a couple of weeks ago, AMAZING! Well compared to most of the crap that Hollywood funnels out. If anyone reading this hasnt seen it, I strongly reccomend it!

The book is good, but my parents won't let me watch it, even though I'm technically allowed to because there's "violence".

And team Katniss~

I loved the hunger games, i just hate when some people try to compare it to Battle Royale, probably the most gorey, graphic, and even sometimes pornographic manga I've ever read

I find it was poorly done. The production quality was pretty bad. For a more detailed example I recommend moviebob.

I love the books, but I feel like the movie might ruin it/piss me off (I wanted to make the movie first XD) and I'm afraid popular kids and corporations are going to make this the next twilight

I feel like a lot of people are missing the point. I was recently at a campout, and there was this group of girls that kept saying "I volunteer as tribute!" to EVERYTHING. *sigh*
