My friend and I were talking about sad death scenes that actually seem funny when you do not know any information about the character or story. After that he told me about "Grave of the Butterflies" which is a movie about two children who lose their parents and struggle to survive during the second world war.

I'd say take a look at this movie sometime. It will bring you to tears.

We had a Miyazaki movie week here in Aus a while ago and I was so glad i saw this. <3

I own the DVD and back when I was younger I had watched this, but I really didn't understand it which is why I didn't like it because it wasn't 'happy' or 'pretty'. But a few months ago I watched it once more and I understood it, I really comprehended it more since I'm older. It really was a tragic movie that had me shocked and really thinking. And what he does for his little sister is so kind and selfless.

I watched this, and was like "Why didn't the kid just go home to the aunt, she might have been an ass, but, food and shelter"
I didn't cry, I cried during barefoot den though (Isnt that the name of that odd Anime, with that odd deathbombscene?, anyhow, that one)..

Such a downer movie, but really, people should watch it. Very good. I don't usually like this kind of movie, but it was captivating.

this mopvoie is heart breaking. :'( but the 42 is right. everyone should watch it. esp. the kids of today's generation who have not experienced the hardships of the people during wwII

I just watched it. TT-TT I was crying! It was an amazing movie. I want to dive into the anime and adopt them! I can't believe how cruel every one was! I realize it was war time but still!!! TT-TT (still crying)

I heard of another movie called "Barefoot gin" and it's about japanese children during WWII. And yes, it includes bombs.

This movie is depressing. It's based on WWII Japan, so don't expect a happy ending.
