Tron: Legacy (21)

1 Name: KID+ : 2010-12-19 13:38 ID:oC9N7WPL [Del]

I saw it Friday night. I was very disappointed. I didn't expect it to be great but I also didn't expect it to be boring. Did anyone else see it?

Poor character and plot development, but the colours were oh so pretty and the soundtrack mind blowing. The actors were quite decent, though Jeff Bridges was basically playing The Dude. Really, it was exactly like expected. It's not like the original was a great movie either, it had the exact same problems with plot and character development, we just find it endearing because it was made in the 80's.

>Tron Legacy
>Olivia Wilde is in the movie
I'm definitely going to see that just because I love her

its all about the colorful lights...not the wild Olivia Wilde who appears U_U mmhmm

5 Name: Dragpent : 2010-12-19 22:25 ID:JSqHPMNU [Del]

Should I bother watching it? I still need to watch the original though.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the original either. I didn't even like it that much when I was a kid. I say wait for cable or DVD. I never expect for blockbusters to have the best stories or characters but I do expect them to deliver the thrills and this movie fails horrible at doing so. What's on screen isn't even enjoyable enough to turn off your brain and enjoy the ride because Tron Legacy is more of a bump on the road than a fun rollercoster ride.

It's sad too because there was so much potential for not just a decent blockbuster but a good film period. The movie had me for the 1st 20-30 minutes but it just doesn't deliver for the next hour and 1/2.

I agree that it had the potential, but for some reason they kept mentioning things that could have turned into a very interesting plot development and then they just forgot about it (Sentient life evolved in the grid! Oh never mind, they all died... Olivia Wilde is the only one that survived! Uh cool, let's never mention it again...) It felt like they just failed to ever get to the point.

There was this problem with the direction as well, I mean who the hell is Joseph Kosinski anyway? According to IMDb this was his directorial debut, and it shows. A project of this magnitude calls for someone more experienced who knows how to pace an action movie.

Oh, and no real need to watch the original. It's not a good movie really, it's more if you are interested in the (for the time) pretty groundbreaking effects or like cheesy 80's sci-fi that you should bother. If not, you can just save yourself the two hours and just read the plot summary on Wikipedia and you should have no problem following the story progression (not that there's much of that) in Legacy.

I know what you mean Blue. They had all these ideas and didn't bother to string them together in a way that made sense or satisfying in anyway. I guess they hoped we'd be distracted by all the cool costumes and bright lights but it everything felt muted to me. Subdued in some way. There was just no excitement.

What a disappointment. I entered the cinema feeling all excited and come out feeling that it was a bad waste of $16.40.

Really not going to talk about plot and characters
since you guys already covered that, but I have or small problem I have to address:
What the hell is with the disc design?
Think about it. The disc is as important to us as the human brain is, but do you see us carrying our fucking brains on our backs where the lousiest pick pocket can easily take in a crowded place? Hell no, because Mother Nature > Flynn.
And it's not like they can't take it off for prolonged periods of time; Flynn has the fucking thing off for 1/4 of the whole movie!
And even if it's supposedly "more convenient", why the fuck would Flynn bring it to the club, filled with enemies, not to mention carrying the damn thing on his back?
Imagine yourself carrying a weapon with the force of 120 nukes that could cause Armegeddon or the SkyNet program? Would you carry it on your back, where it is the most vulnerable? (I assume that you don't have eyes on the back of your head)
Hell no. And it stupefies me that a computer engineer cum genius can't think of a better spot like his crotch, his chest, or his crouch?

I've seen Tron Guy on youtube.

Does this count?

So I finally got around to actually watching the movie.
The effects were pretty awesome, and Daft Punk was pretty awesome, but by now I already forgot what the movie was supposed to be about.

The plot was lost on me after the lightcycle scene.

If the movie was a 2 hour long lightcycle fight it would've actually been better, in my opinion.

>>10 That part I did not understand at all either. He could've like hid it somewhere, or programmed a thing to hide it. Hell, he seemed pretty omnipotent to me, albeit selectively for the sake of plot.

Also, the movie was called "Tron." Where the hell was Tron the entire time? Oh right, NOT DOING SHIT.
He had like two lines in the entire movie, and one of them was a flashback. The second one barely mattered, given after his "sacrifice," Clu just took his ride and kept on going, deterred by like half a second.

tl;dr Olivia Wilde is hot.

>>2 I agree with you there
>>3 lol I agree with you too
They could have expanded more but what ever it was cool looking but the story ran to parallel in biblical terms. Loved the soundtrack and the reconf1gured one too.

love tron in an old, geeky way.
tron:legacy had terrible acting and a plot that was par at best.
the amazing visual experience and daft punk score were redeeming though.
redeeming enough for a recommendation.
I will always tell all of my friends to watch Tron:Legacy....when they're totally baked.

18 Name: kirbyluv : 2012-01-17 17:29 ID:6XSdphUN [Del]

i saw it, like the fact that daft punk did the music

19 Name: KanoN-ChaN : 2012-01-18 21:23 ID:CP4wPDb3 [Del]

i personally liked tron better than tron:legacy. tron:legacy may have better effects and such, but the plot was not as good as the original movie and the ending was kinda eh. the soundtrack for the movie was pretty good though.

I thought the movie started getting boring around the middle. I mean I like the special effects and the music but overall the movie felt a bit underdeveloped.
