Almost everyone that reads manga knows mangadex, and that its been down due to it being hacked and some other stuff like that (check out mangadex.org for more info).
Mangadex is a truly amazing website, no ads and that's where most scanlation groups "officially" upload their stuff. But who knows, maybe in the not so distant future it will go down again, and like kissmanga, it may be forever. Luckily, I haven't been affected at all by the site going down, because I previously downloaded everything I was reading, so I advice you guys to do the same once the site goes back up again.
The best tool for this is probably HakuNeko, works for windows, mac, and linux. It's free, completely safe, and has a very active git hub for any problems you may encounter. Check it out! https://github.com/manga-download/hakuneko.
Also, if you read your manga in one of those aggregator sites like manganelo or mangakakalot (presumably they are the ones that hacked mangadex but im not sure, if anyone has info about this please tell me!) downloading what you want to read directly from HakuNeko is 1000% better than reading it in the site. This way you avoid their horrible ads and don't give them a single cent, they profit off of the scanlator groups' hard work and do shady stuff like what I mentioned earlier. They literally get their manga by scraping mangadex so I don't quite understand what they are gaining by the site being down. Lol this turned into a rant about aggregator sites. Hope this helps!

Now that Mangadex is down, the online manga reading experience is a whole wild west show lol

But really now that the hosting giant is down, the race to become the new major manga reading site is on... sort of.

Guya.moe project
Focused on hosting Love is War's manga scanlations by scraping the already existing online source, what they offer is basically a fancy UI with a rich and diverse customization features to provide you the best reading experience. Also no annoying ads, fully free, what more could you ask? "We don't want donations, please buy the original manga to support the creators." Words from the admins. URL is below.

Cubari.moe is the backbone of Guya.moe project, in that I mean Cubari is the UI of the manga reader itself. Like stated above, they scrape scanlations from a different part of internet and present them through their fancy customizable manga reader to provide the best reading experience (instead of hosting the images on their own, for legal reasons obviously). As one of their homepage's description says, "We gotchu Mangadex." I think that's an interesting one.

The setbacks is that you need to know what series are you looking for to use the site properly, I only read Kubera:OLG so that's pretty much the only thing I could tell you about it lol. Ask your scanlators where did they host their work so you can read it on Cubari, imgur also works you know? Also found the latest OPM's latest scanlations being uploaded here as well.

>>2 I've been reading Kaguya-Sama in guya.moe, that website is awesome.
I wonder, are projects like cubari.moe the new way we are going to read manga online? It's very convenient and discreet, im guessing its way more difficult for a publisher to hunt down every single imgur album containing their series scanlations than just shutting down a big website. It could be the end for the big hosting websites that break copyright law out on the open, who knows. But yeah, the other way is to read directly off of the scanlators' websites, but very often one group doesn't translate every chapter of the series so you gotta go from website to website.
I didn't know these things about Cubari, it seems right now its the best way to read manga online, thanks!

Getting sidetracked a bit here but whatever, it still follows the existing discussion in the thread lol.

If Cubari is going to be a major thing in reading scanlated mangas online, I can already see a ripple-effect taking place from a mile-away here. One thing I noticed from Kubera's and OPM's page is that they had something called "gist source" which as the name implies lead to a raw github page filled with codes listing the scanlated manga's URL.

Scanlation team as we knew today consists of the raw provider, cleaners, translators, and typesetters. But if they want to take a piece of the cake that is Cubari, they need someone that knows coding to compile all their scanlation works in a single page with an orderly manner. I can already imagine seeing a lot of "Recruiting coders" pamphlets chiming in from majority of scanlated mangas.

Though I beg to differ, the fall of Mangadex leads to an era akin to the wild west and Cubari is the epitome of it. As they say, inconvenience propelled innovations, I'd reckon that people would flock back to Mangadex once more once they went back online and reclaimed that throne.

But who am I to claim that will actually happen? It's also possible that Cubari's UI that is said to rival Mangadex's would gain some people's loyalty and thus spreading the weeb community evenly between the two sites, allowing both sites to coexist.

Either way, I'm ecstatic to see where this will all lead to.

I completely agree with you, who knows what will happen, but its very likely we are entering a new era regarding online manga. I am also very much interested in seeing what will happen. I predict everything will go back to normal once mangadex goes back online, but maybe in the future it will get shut down permanently, and it being the biggest manga website, a lot of changes will happen, Cubari like websites seem like are the next in line for us readers and scanlators.

Though some scanlators would have a hard time figuring this new system out.

I think its pretty obvious that sites like mangakakalot will always thrive by the help of pirates, can't help with that I guess.

I feel like we need to step a bit onto the legal side of official translation from original publishers, but I've no idea where that could impact the already crowded stuff of the scanlation pirates shenanigans here.

So here's all we have on our plates for now, lol.
