Protecting humanity against the impossible!
The Defenders have always been, compared to the Avengers or the X-Men, one of Marvel's lesser known teams. A team of unlikely people brought together by circumstance, the Defenders has, over time, included people such as: Doctor Strange, Namor the Submariner, the Silver Surfer, the Hulk, Valkyrie, Nighthawk, Hellcat, Daimon Hellstrom and many others.
The team first came to be in the 70s and its title ran from 1972 until 1986. Recently in 2011 the Defenders were brought back under writer Matt Fraction, initially trying to fix a leftover problem from Fear Itself (the crossover event). They soon found themselves faced with a mystery that threatens the entire universe.
I've only read the most recent series and I can say it's a lot of fun and (maybe because of my love for Doctor Strange) these guys have become sort of my favorite team. Unfortunately the title ends after only 12 issues, but it has a nice ending nonetheless. I really recommend it.
