A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.

xkcd is a webcomic created by Randall Munroe, former NASA roboticist and programmer. Thus the subject matter you can expect to find in it is pretty 'nerdy'.

Strips vary from science and programming in-jokes, jabs at pop culture or just thoughts about love and life. Sometimes they're really awesome charts or most recently this click and drag.

It's a really great webcomic and choosing just one strip for this post almost killed me.

Is this really the only thread for this? *Goes and checks* Lo and behold it is! Personally I'm rather surprised by this, by oh well. I guess better late than never, eh?

Sometimes I'm terrifiedto realize how manyoptions other people have

Sometimes we need reminding about things like that.

Whoa. Thats nice. I like it.

I'm actually really surprised we didn't have a thread for this yet. I had been reading it for years now but it never occurred to me to share it anywhere. Good work!

Don't forget the somewhat newer xkcd "what if" spinoff Randall is doing:
http://what-if.xkcd.com/
People send in questions and he answers them in extreme detail. I think my favorite one is the one about the glass being half empty. Literally. As in, half vacuum.

What-if is great. I should have mentioned it in the opening post, damn. I think the "mole of moles" one may be my favorite, if only because it manages to bring up something like a planet of moles and discuss it seriously.

Love this guy.
Out of the "what-if" articles, this is my favorite:
http://what-if.xkcd.com/8/

Probably because I'm familiar enough with the road systems of New England and the Maritimes to do my jump, immediately run the fuck to a car, and work my way up into Canada before anyone starts doing legitimate harm. While the rest of the world's population dies in our wonderfully small state, I'll recede to a shack up in Newfoundland and wait out my days hunting moose and trying not to freeze to death.

It will work, I swear.

Quote from newest what-if:
"5 milliwatts is wimpy. We can do better.
A 1-watt laser is an extremely dangerous thing. It’s not just powerful enough to blind you—it’s capable of burning skin and setting things on fire. Obviously, they’re not legal for consumer purchase in the US.
Just kidding! You can pick one up for $300."
He even provides a link to purchase such a thing. I love this guy so, so much.

I feel bad that I stopped keeping up with this comic around the time it hit 1200 :( I've been with it since the very beginning, and Randall deserves all the success that comes his way. :)
