Kouta Morisaki is a 26 year old man with stereotypical otaku interests. He works as an assistant manga artist for Sousuke Morita for a living. In highschool, he slept with Nozomi Yukimura and lost contact with her ever since. He eventually discovers she had given birth to his newfound 9 year old daughter, Kanau Yukimura, when she appears at his doorstep. As they live together, Kouta begins to place her above his otaku interests and develops as a father and discarding some of his otaku hobbies.
The story essentially revolves around them getting to know eachother, and Kouta overcoming his faults in order to become a better father towards Kanau.

This Manga... God damnit. I've never been on such an intense emotional rollercoaster. I've never felt so happy, and lauged so hard, only to feel dead inside shortly after, then all of a sudden warm and fuzzy... In short, this is one of the best manga I have ever read, the character development was excellent, the storyline and the characters themselves were amazing... And that ending... Oh GOD that fucking ending. I love this manga, and I highly recommend it to anyone... And anyone who is ready to witness the full spectrum of their emotions flashing back and forth over and over.

Reading this series made my heart warm up proportional to how much I died inside. Rob Zombie said it best with "I am the rat, feast upon the cat. Tender is the fur, dying as you purr."

After marathoning the entire thing in two days, I can safely say that I feel as if my heart is wrapped in a blanket next to a fire place, while the rest of my body is dead and gone. The entire thing ends like you've been out in a storm for a week and then it just stops abruptly and leaves you to deal with it.

Right >>2 This, all of this...

I also marathoned the whole thing in 2 days... My heart and mind went through so many emotional stages, that my current state of emotion is extremely unstable... I need a continuation... I just... need... to know.

Oh wow, what a reversal from the typical otaku-pandering junk you see out there nowadays. I might have to go read this now, the premise itself sounds heartwarming.

Sounds pretty good, though it seems like someone just meshed Usagi Drop with Welcome to the NHK. but since i loved both of those, i think i'll give it a try.

I don't normally read manga, but I found this incredibly interesting and wrote it down for later. I just have a hard time getting into manga and not watching everything animated. But I think I'll give it another go and look this one up. So thanks for the reccomendations.

15 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2011-12-23 17:45 ID:8BIm9few [Del]

>>14 I didn't have nearly as many 'heart wrenching' moments in usagi drop as I did with this.

really? parental abandonment? Death? unrequited love? More Death?

17 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2011-12-24 19:56 ID:8BIm9few [Del]

Meh, it was the fact that usagi drop made me feel bad nearly the whole way through with occasional ups. While this went up and down so much, every drop, even though there was only one actual death, felt heart wrenching and terrible. In a different way than usagi drop. Instead of 'oh god....why...?' it was more like 'oh, GOD! WHY!?!?' if ya know what I mean... :|
