I don't know how to properly describe Kekkaishi, because it at first it looks so unremarkable, just like any other supernatural themed shounen manga, but it manages to do its job better than a lot of other ones in that category.

The story starts kind of slow with the two main leads Yoshimori and Tokine - kekkaishis (basically demon hunters who specialize in making a kind of barrier to capture their pray) simply fighting with the monster that's causing trouble in the area they're supposed to protect. But after a while it gets around to enlarging its cast, dabbling in demon politics and supernatural organizations. The plot steadily progresses without getting sidetracked, just simply revealing more and more and putting things into context until the problem at the beginning actually gets solved, giving out the impression that it was actually well planned.

It doesn't do anything too innovative I guess, but what it does do is give you a good story, an interesting fictional universe, if you ask me, it's a shounen how it's supposed to be done.

I liked it. The only reason I didn't mind the countless shounen clichés was because I don't read or watch very much shounen, and when I do it's all non-cliché stuff.

and the fact that it also has a Wii and DS game in japan.
