Well, even though I know I have no 'power' here, I still support that this thread is discussing a topic strongly related to art and thus, should remain on the Art thread.

Cosplay is art. Or else there would be no cosplayers on Deviantart.... I've never cosplayed before in my entire life though.

Ok sure yes there is an art/craft in making a costume but does that make cosplay art no, but if you are going to argue it is by that logic and mentality then you could say every piece clothing that has ever existed is piece of art, So that would mean we must all start posting as much cloths as possible here with no holding back!!!

as a cosplayer in the community IT IS FUCKING ART. i'm getting tired of your shit. it belongs in art. ART IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER i don't care what your opinion is, a LOT OF PEOPLE work hard on their cosplays TO SHOW IT OFF AND THAT IS WHAT ARTISTS DO.

Cosplay does NOT belong on the 'random' folder. i am not a troll, nor am i stupid, and a 'self proclaimed moderator' is not going to stop me from doing what's right.

the ART of cosplay
Since you clearly have no experience in the field, and the fact that you said 'some' arts and crafts go into it, i feel the need to tell you.

1: drafting a pattern from scratch = Art
2: using said pattern to sew from scratch your design that YOU made = art
3: trial and error to get it right, even with your own measurments
4: Special Effects prosthetics which you made yourself = art
5: PROPS which you made yourself from rough drafts to completion = art
6: Makeup which is in itself ART.

Try telling ANY special effects/makeup designer that cosplay, that costuming AND THAT THEIR VERY LIVELYHOOD IS NOT ART AND YOU WILL GET BITCHSLAPPED.
Look up Glenn Hetrick or any other person who appears on Face Off and try to tell them that their hard work is not ART. see how far you get.
Look at any MOVIE where they use SFX makeup (which is almost all these days) and tell ALL THOSE PEOPLE that their wardrobes and the HOURS they had to sit in makeup was just 'arts and crafts'.
THEN AND ONLY THEN, will i accept your pathetic attempts to 'sage' me on the topic.

And don't get me started on wig styling. most of us even make our wigs from scratch using wefts.

yes cosplay is art, if you choose to see it that way (i think its more like fashion buuut....) anyways, since you only wanted to get this out to osplayers in the dollars post this in the already made cosplay thread


dollars cosplayers already go there when they wanna see cosplay related things, so its most relevant there
