Tips for Realistic Portrait (6)

1 Name: Ace : 2015-11-22 14:24 ID:jNI6JRgo [Del]

So I have this assignment for art which involves drawing a realistic black and white portrait of a person using a grid. I'm about half way through and I'm starting to realize how it doesn't look like my model. Does anyone have tips for realistic drawing? All I can really do is anime/manga so this is hard for me. I'd appreciate any help I can get, so thanks!

To transcend the anime art style and transition into realistic drawings is not always easy. I haven't drawn portraits since I was forced to in my freehand drawing class earlier this year(not a very pleasant experience)

When you say it doesn't look like your model, what do you mean? Is it the face shape, position/size of the features--like eyes? Or does everything just feel wrong?

>>2 Everything just feels wrong. The face also feels really chubby looking and the eyes and nose look completely wrong.

Ah. Since it is an issue of such the only advice I can give you is to try and see which features should go into which rows and columns of the grid. I like to swipe my pencil before the original picture to see how the strokes that outline the face should go(lol) Perhaps you can show us a picture of the drawing and picture?
