I haven't found any threads about art supplies. I have a few quastions because I am starting college and I don't know what brands to buy that is perfect for a student. These are the things I want to know:
-What are the best markers for beginners? Cheapest if possible.
-What set/types of watercolor brushes should I start with?
-Anyone know any good sketchbook brands, those small ones with flexible covers, that work with not only pencils and ink pens, but markers too? (I was thinking of using it as a personal sketchbook)
-What size should a sketchbook be for observation classes (models)?
-What is the best wacom tablet for students who will work with animation (2D and 3D)?

Thanks in advance and hope this helps others as well.

Hi there!

Markers:
Well I personally only use Copic, but you can try markers from Promarkers, Nekopiko and Pantone. They are bit cheaper than Copic. They are of course not as good as copic, so try to buy the alcohol based markers.
Maybe if you go to an art shop you will find a sale since school starts soon.

Sketchbook Brand:
I'm using the sketchbook from Copic. It's quite good and has many sizes. I heard that Moleskin and Handbook Journals is good but I never used them.

Tablet:
It depends I would say. Some people use only with pen function and others with pen&touch.
Also some people use different sizes.
Some students or professionals use the Cintiq type because they have full control over the display and it's easy to work with, but it's expensive. Starts around 1k $/€
But for starters you can try the models that are about 50$/€.

Watercolor Brushes:
Here is a link, maybe it helps. http://emptyeasel.com/2013/07/22/how-to-choose-good-mid-range-watercolor-brushes-and-where-to-buy-them-online/

Sketchbook Size:
Can't really tell because I never attended one.
I think 9″x12″ or 11"x14" is a good size cause,
larger than 11″x14″ are sketchpads and they are 14″x17″, 18″x24″, and 24″x36″ big and I also think that you would have a problem carrying around like that.

I never had a art class before so I don't know if this info is accurate to help you or others.
Wish you luck!

>>3 Thank you for replying! Since I am beginner with markers, I'll use cheaper ones to start with.
I've seen Moleskine sketchbooks more often in stores, but I'll go check on others.
Well, according to my teachers, a Intuos Pro in medium would be fine.
