-chan and -kun are diminuative honorifics used on females and males, respectively. In plain terms, they are both used to address someone of lower status (e.g. a teacher to his/her student) or to make an title endearing (which is what you normally see between friends in anime and such.) The -chan suffix is normally used for girls whereas the -kun suffix is reserved for boys.
There are exceptions; tomboys can be addressed with the -kun ending by friends, and fans often ignore the gender distinctions (especially in same-gender relationships... like Shizaya, for instance.) So in this case, it really doesn't matter.
I really love it, your style is great :) And Shizu-chan. Well I call him that just because Izaya calls him so and it's kind of fun (but yeah, if I were him it'd definitelly iritate me...) :D
