I thought it would be cool to create a thread about this. I know that digital art is good, and there are some absolutely amazing digital drawings out there, but this one is for images and fanart created without the aid of a computer. The medium can be pens, pencils, crayons... Anything, really. So here's a picture of Blair from Soul Eater to start it off. Post loads of pictures! :D

>>1 Honestly, this is not necessary. If you wish to use this as your art thread, that's one thing. However, I know that I, for one, use traditional methods for the most part. So, it makes very little sense to replace the art sharing thread and individual's threads for this one.

Why let them be? That just means we're condoning their wrongful actions. This topic shouldn't even exist. We have a topic meant for sharing Art. We don't need another.

They've got a point. While a discussion topic about traditional artwork would be nice, we do already have a whole thread dedicated to sharing artwork of all sorts. Not to mention, people are able to make entire threads for their own artwork if they feel especially inclined to post a lot of theirs.

In the end, this site isn't an art sharing site. There's no need for that level of categorization - it would get messy fast, and the way this site is structured makes it inefficient for that sort of thing. Let's keep it simple, guys.

I never do digital art. I find it cheap...and much less talented. (But...thats muh opinion)

16 Name: KuroBara : 2012-04-24 13:11 ID:1F4ubMBm [Del]

I didn't know it was such a bad thing to create this thread! O.O I just had a flick through, saw a few ones for 'Sharpie Drawings' and similar stuff, and noticed there wasn't one specifically for traditional art. I appreciate that there's a general art one, but this is slightly more specific. And it IS tidy- it's not as if I'm duplicating exactly a thread that already exists.

17 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2012-04-24 15:00 ID:wQE8NatV [Del]

But, it isn't the fact it's tidy. It's the fact we have a topic made for sharing Art. We don't need people trying to argue semantics, and thus trying to find loop holes to spam their art.

We only need 1 topic. Which we have.

18 Name: Nomura_Panda* !MANGAS6Kfg : 2012-04-24 15:34 ID:c1azqFfy [Del]

The sharpie drawings, I'd assumed, was that person's thread.>>16

>>17 Exactly.

19 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2012-04-24 19:24 ID:aaph6aHw [Del]

>>16 It's not really a bad thing, just semantics and splitting hairs. But if you want to turn this into a discussion about traditional media, that's fine too - sharing art is for that other topic though.

20 Name: KuroBara : 2012-04-25 14:03 ID:GP7Oecze [Del]

>>17 Personally, I think some of you are taking this a bit far. I'm not trying to 'spam my art'- it's just for everyone who specializes in traditional methods to post on, like a sub- category. If it keeps you awake throughout the night, I'll take it down and create one for MY art, though I don't see why it's such a big deal.
This is a community website, and I'm not abusing any of the rules or guidelines, nor am I making everything a mess.

Alright, I figured this would die without anyone caring, but since it's been bumped up yet again, I'm going to give my opinion.

I don't see the problem with this topic. It can be both a discussion of traditional media and a place for people to share art that is specifically that. We do have the sharing art thread, but it is very general, and someone who is looking specifically for art made with traditional media could easily get lost in that thread. Having another thread wouldn't be that big of a deal. It doesn't take up that much space, and it's not like we have a ton of art sharing threads anyway. Most people either have their own personal thread or they post it in that one thread. Making one more thread for a more specific purpose doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Not to sound biased, but I like traditional media. My comments and art with it are quickly lost in threads not specific for it, because those threads are generally filled with anime-based creations made with SAI/GIMP/Paint. I think it would be really nice to have a place to share just general traditional creations.

Again, I don't mean to be shot or step on the majority's opinion here, but I'm really on Kuro's side with this. I think this thread would be fine.

I could have sworn I replied to this topic earlier. Did I not hit reply?

Anyway, in retrospect, you are correct Kuro - there have been threads in the past that are tailored to specific types of art. It's just that traditional art is what is "most common" in the "general" art sharing thread. This might be why everyone's throwing a fit over organization, but when it comes down to it, this thread is unique. We've just been putting its content in a broader thread up until now.

So, the general art thread can remain a general art thread - no posting limits or anything - but this one can be specific to discussing and sharing traditional artwork, as Barabi said. Can we agree on this?

I'm up for that.

25 Name: Zen Kawano : 2012-04-26 19:20 ID:/iZP80SE [Del]

Im all up for this. I have no luck with digital stuff, so all i draw is traditional. I think it gives a closer feel to the actuall character of the person or thing you are drawing, but maybe im just a nut. Check out my art thread if you like. ill definitely be sure to put a picture up. Long live traditional art!

This sounds quite interesting. It is true though, that I do not draw art online. I like handrawn things better.

Thank you everyone!! ^.^ That's what I originally set this thread up for, and I'm glad that now everyone can see that.
So... Yay! :D Post art!

My face when im told that traditional art isnt as good as digital. ("oh god not one of these people" face)

>>28 To be fair, depending on the effect you're going for, digital art is sometimes preferable over traditional.

While you could argue that it takes more skill to do things completely in traditional, in some respects it's a bit impractical. Technology is developed for a reason, and it doesn't quite make sense to stick solely to traditional because of the difficulty.

But to that end, there are also aspects of traditional art that can't be replicated perfectly through digital means. I can't think of much off the top of my head, aside from the look and feel of a tangible piece of art.

Oh look a conversation topic how convenient

Have at it

>>29 i was referring to several people who have told me point blank, no matter the circumstance, digital art is better than traditional. i'll agree that in certain areas it is, but it really depends on who you are. i know some people who do digital art and they far surpass me in skill and ill admit it. their work is amazing, but they generally arent the people saying it. its generally the people who are just starting off or arent overly good and seem to want to blame it on the art style.

31 Name: KuroBara : 2012-04-27 13:25 ID:AN4N+VIo [Del]

I agree. In comparison to many, my art truly is rubbish. HOWEVER, your skill level is the same whether you use a computer or pencil. Of course, people may be better at using one over the other, but the thing that loads of people have told me, 'Computers make your art better', is a myth.
I fail at Photoshop! T.T *Headwall*
