this is a simple thread about my art over a eriod of a month or two. i'd like comments and feedback, both good and bad, and lots of it. i want to become better and i want your opinions. most of my art so far is of Soul eater characters, but not all.

The proportions are a bit...off. I think you're on the right track though. (I'm no art critic).

Stein looks stoned as fuck.

this took me quite a while. 3 blocks and some of a fourth. (blocks being 1 & 1/2 hrs long a piece)

Whoa, it's great to see that you've put in a lot of effort in these pictures! :D

Although the proportioning of your drawings were a bit off at first, the improvement in your work is evident. I especially like >>6 with Death, it's very accurate from what I've seen in Soul Eater.

What I suggest you improve on, is your technique on shading. Try for more of a softer look by gradually lightening or darkening the shade of your medium (pencil, pen, etc, etc)every time you make a stroke, because your current shadows are a bit too harsh. I'm sure that once you do this, the shape of whatever you draw will improve heaps.

You can get the same hair style using more and less lines. Basically, it's easiest to just let your hand go to the flow quickly. Of course, that's just for me. You do seem to like Soul Eater alot haha :D As stupid as it may seem, I can't get Death down very well, but you are amazing at it :P I attempted Soul and he turned out pretty good I guess. Check it out in my thread :)

>>47 Just pointing what is a bit off. The overall is very good indeed. :D The anatomy is basically the problem (and that's for everybody... It's hard to get anatomy right). So her arm. Since her body is pointing to there <- her right arm should be more behind (It's our left, by the way). If her body was supposed to be straight forward, her chest wouldn't have that much 'relevance' in the middle and basically equal on the sides (if she has a lot of chest of course.)


And a final consideration. You draw a lot from drawings, but basically from one anime/manga. Change styles a bit. Okay, a lot. Go from Saint Seiya to Sailor Moon. From copying an artist, you get to know what you're more comfortable with. The shoujo eye, the strong body, whatever.

But don't trace. Copy from eye. Right? :D
Aaaaaaand. Try a bit of real life. And try see the real life on people's drawing. Try to see under the final piece, you know?

You definitely have talent, if you just work on your anatomy a little (you can still keep it in the anime style and have it look proportionate :P ) you'll be better. Also it'll look more neat if your colored pencil strokes went in the same direction. I can see where you've gone over in different directions (it's especially noticeable in post 83 and 81)
But you are definitely good :)

I would uniform the background lines, things look better if the lines all run in the same general direction.. Then just move the nose down a little on Ciel, and I'd say your golden! :)

Yeah. Ciel's nose. i noticed it right after i hard ourlined ti. i literally facepalmed. it bothers me but i have a policy of not redoing photos. to be completely honest i thought the mouth would be the toughest, but it turned out really well in my opinion

I really like a lot of these. Sometimes I have trouble drawing people that are in profile and not actually facing you. It seems like you have it down a lot better than I do haha.

All in all, most the pictures look decent for your medium. However, in >>92 the shirt really doesn't line up with the actual body. It's normal for it to be a very small bit higher since... well, fabric isn't paper thin, you know? In this case, though, it looks like he has three inch shoulder pads underneath an obnoxiously stiff princess-styled t-shirt. I highly doubt that that's the look you were going for. Same with the hat. It looks like it's defying gravity. In certain situations, that might actually be a possible pose with the hat, but in a drawing, the strings which are holding the hat should go down and wrap down the back of his shoulders to where they meet up on the hat. In that case, the hat would be quite a bit lower.

I can't figure out a better way to explain the hat portion, so I attached a quick pictoral explanation. I'll delete it if/when you want (in case you're worried it would distract from your art).

i am actually fairly proud of this one, except for the big black line on the forehead. i sneezed and dropped my pen. tried to incorporate it into the hair. ^^u didnt work so well as you can see.

i Actually adopted a new technique with this last one and i think ill keep using it. I went back over all the lines with a black pen. i think it gives it a cleaner look in the end

Please critique my work. i want to get better and it helps to have people comment on and critique what i do. if you want to leave a bit of advice, GREAT! i want to hear it because i truly do want to get better and id love the help of those around me to do so.

you could blend colors together in the backgrounds of your pictures rather than just having one color.

I'm sorry but there is no variation or change in any of your pictures. They are all the same in basic anatomy, facial expressions, color, shading (really none), everything.

You need to try to change it up.

Zen Kawano, when you are drawing a picture of something do not draw it line for line, otherwise you will not learn anything. Try breaking the scene down into basic shapes and structures then build on that.

I know someone IRL who draws like you in the way that they draw scenes from anime and manga.
