So I recently I got a Nikon coolpix p500 and I want to be able to get the most from it. I'm new to the world of photography so any tips would be nice. Thank you in advance. :)

Try reading some books or articles aimed at beginners, especially things that tell you about aperture size, depth of field, shutter speed, stuff like that. You should probably have a look at composition as well, like the rule of thirds. There's a lot of stuff out there online that's helpful for beginner photographers, but the best way to learn is to take photographs and get used to your camera.

I'll tell you what every professional photographer has told me, Never use automated modes, mess around with every setting and learn your cameras strengths and weaknesses, learn how to account for those weaknesses and you'll be able to take some amazing pictures with any camera. And most of all get out and take as many pictures as you can, the more you take the better you'll get with timing and being able to eye a situation and know what you need in terms of shutter speed, aperture size, and ISO settings.
Also I recommend Popular Photography magazine, they have a bunch of editing tips, photoshoot setup tips (for portraits, action shots, landscape, and nature shots), lists of places to visit and during which times of the year so that you can see some amazing sights, as well as contests and publishing opportunities if you want professional feedback on your work.

>>4 I've a bunch of those magazines at Barnes and noble. I never picked one up because I though they were for professionals but I'll definitely take your advice. Thank you!
