This is the concept Art for my main character in Hellfire.
Hellfire is the story that I posted about in the Literature section.

I'm thinking that the Artist should mix versions 3 and 4 together for the adult stage, and 1 and 2, mixed, for his child stages, made a bit more younger looking.

What do you all think?

It looks much better, by the way, people, once you open it up in a new page, and zoom in all of the way.

I like style 3 but he looks kinda emo so i will have to go with style 2. :)

Style 2 is too much like Ichigo from Bleach. Now imagine mixing styles, and see how that goes with what you like. Just saying. It opens up a wider door. It opens up more variety.

I'm not really sure about Style 2 though, it makes him look like a generic shounen protagonist.

Umm Just wondering but did you draw those above and #1 looks an awful lot like Ikki from Air Gear... #3 almost like Agito from the same series... and #2 is familiar so I'm curious.

My Artist drew them.
Also some may seem familiar, but that's only the case.
Reason why I told my Artist to mix styles 1 and 2 together, made younger, for the child stages, and 3 and 4 mixed, for his adult stages.

This way they both won't look like a copy of something else.

Hey, Thiamor - rather than referring to the artist as "my artist," it would be more appreciated if you actually gave a name or the link to any site they have. While by all means you may technically own the rights to this person's drawings if you paid them, it would be nice if you gave credit as well for people that want to see more of their artwork.

Oh I know. I did check your page, and that's why it bothered me there was no link to the artist's on either of your posts. You never linked it in this thread, and some might just be interested in the art, having not seen your writing. It is the art board, after all. I'm just being nitpicky here.

Well, seems the Artist (WHO ALREADY AGREED TO DO THIS FOR ME) might be backing out to take a recent offer, to get paid to do a web comic. If he does, I'm pissed, and giving up on Hellfire. I've had to many fucking Artists just up and quit, even with so much creative freedom that I give them. If this person quits, after already accepting my deal first, I'm done with the Hellfire story. I don't care if it's paid. An agreement is an agreement, and should have more leeway over some recent deal. Wouldn't you say? A deal is a deal. No matter what comes after. No matter what.

Well that's no reason to give up.

As I stated earlier, though I can't be arsed to check if it was on this thread or not, your story works well enough as a written work. It doesn't need the graphic implementation in the form of a comic - the whole point was that you were expressing it in one way or another in the first place.

If your entire purpose for writing the story was to have it be seen in "manga format," then I really have no sympathy for your plight. One does not write a story for its medium, the medium is created for the story. A writer does not rely on the artist to express himself, he has his own pen and paper - or keyboard and word processing program, in this case.

I agree that it was a dick move to pull, considering you had a verbal agreement, but in the end it was just a favor. It wasn't an official thing, and it seems like you didn't even know the artist that well. If it was an agreement between companions, it would be completely unacceptable. But as it stands, this person held no reason, other than the moral implications, to not back out on it in order to further his own cause.

Would you have rather been a burden on his own career, by asking him to take on a large-scale project with no sort of compensation whatsoever, when it gets in the way of his own goals? I wouldn't say he's completely out of line, just realistic and unfortunate that he agreed to it in the first place.

Well it wasn't really large scale. We both agreed that for now ONLY the intro would be made. Also it was stated this was for a publisher, who asked for me to make a story, and a Manga of it, so we can see how far it can go. The idea stated, to the Artist, was that in due time, if done, I'd be applying both himself and I, with a job up with Dark Horse Comics. The world's third biggest Comics/Graphic Novel/ Manga publisher and creators. He agreed as he possible could become a well known Manga Artist this way.

I made the story, from the start, to become it's own Manga. Because that was what the publisher and I agreed to as well. From the get-go.

The general idea, was that it'd more than likely become a paid job.

I mean I also love the story. Writing it has been great. But I can't take another Artist up and quitting. My mind wouldn't be able to take it. I give so much creative freedom, that you figured it'd be easier on them, also .

I'm talking to him, and seeing if we can come up with something. So no. Not really. Not yet, up until the point that it's permanently not going to happen with this Artist. I'm also talking to another Artist, that I found, in hopes if it doesn't work out, that it may with this new one.

Lastly, going to see if the current Artist cares if any potential Artists uses this concept style. Then really, we can continue to talk about it on here. It just all depends.

Is it the style that would be used for the manga entirely? I think the third style would suit it really well if that's the case. I'm not sure with the difference between ages, but I think the first style contrasts too much to be used as the younger, and the second one is too stereo-typical. I think that the character design for him being younger needs to have more options, because none of the ones up there fit a "young" image without completely neglecting the general style concept.

Well the general idea is to mix styles 3 and 4 together to make a new look, while mixing 1 and 2 together for a new look. Basically if you look closely, if you mixed styles 1 and 2 together, you get a tad bit different version of what you'd get if you mixed 3 and 4 together. Mostly due to how the hair would form.

It just needs to be edited a bit to look more like a younger version of 3+4.

But yeah, it's going to be the look of the man in the actual Manga.

I don't think version one should be mixed with anything, to be honest. I think mixing versions three and four would get the best result, and then you can just change it up to fit how he was when he was younger.

Style 2 looks almost lIke Ikki from Air Gear but each style looks badass 2 me >:D. Wish I could be skilled like this person T_T
