I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but it looks to me like the person is skiing. I have no idea what the "To Cut" means either, but it's not completely out of place. That's my problem with American cartoons.

I think you're mistaken when you say that their characters take two seconds to draw, and that they rarely have a story.

Avatar, the last air bender thing, is an American cartoon, and it's really popular, well drawn, and has pretty good chracter development and story. I'm not particularly in the fandom, but I know that it's not "drawn to no depth" like you say. The characters also have pretty nice designs.

Then, there's DC comics. Muscle bound superheroes, and a lot of them. But each character has their own backstory, and they're pretty hard to draw, if you ask me. It's not even disgusting jokes.

And these are just a few examples. There's a lot of great animated series, and I think that you're looking in the wrong place.

Also, if you're talking about American cartoons like Family Guy and American Dad, I think you're comparing way different art styles.

It was sort of bothering me, not exactly that people were unsupportive, but because they were so quick to judge a change in style. It was such a close-minded 180 that it had me reeling. And that was before Barabi went on about her opinion on inferior gaijin cartoons :V

I actually liked the change; it's a different take on your style. Especially for >>271, the shading makes it pop out more than your other ones (similar to >>225 before), though arguably a lot of them were stylistically flat/monotone (like >>236 and >>249).

It's a bit more realistic than the textured coloring style, but both are well done in their own respects.
