3 Name: Godofwar1258 : 2011-07-17 14:08 ID:d4+v6YdG [Del]

I made it with pen on paper. Nothing too fancy or difficult.

4 Name: Irk !Y7kBtlCaVo : 2011-07-18 07:24 ID:wTygKdNB [Del]

Protip: This isn't abstract, it's derivative.
If it were abstract, it wouldn't have shapes meant to look like mountains, dragons, and fire in it.

Yes, Irk, I know that but, unlike some artists, I don't go by preset rules with art. If I think it's abstract, it's abstract. If I think it's conceptual, it's conceptual. Art is defined by the person who sees it, not some invisible standards set to categorize something.

lolokthen

Some great derivative artwork you got there. I like how the dragon's body kind of disguises itself as a mountain.

I though the dragon's head is coming out of the mountain

I don't normally see a whole lot of derivative artwork like this, I agree with >>7

It almost looked kind of abstract for a minute until I noticed the dragons and the mountains. Really cool effect.

Just to clarify, if art is defined by how a person sees it, does the general consensus of the community count for anything? After all, the consensus is usually the majority individual opinion. And as these invisible rules are usually derived from this consensus, does that mean in the end the individual opinion is worth nothing?

Also, I have to agree with Irk and Ayanavi with this. I can clearly see two dragons breathing fire at each other with mountains in the background. If it was abstract it would at least have a bit more ... ambiguity.

Can I share some of my abstract art too?

Well, I know you guys are right but, I just wanted to label it as "abstract" because that's how I felt it was. I wouldn't have posted this if I knew I was gonna be flamed for categorizing it wrong. Oh well, haters gonna hate.

13 Name: godofwar1258 : 2011-07-19 14:48 ID:d4+v6YdG [Del]

Btw, Soma, that is some great abstract art. I can feel the emotion put into that piece.

I've learned something while on this site. People can't take criticism or light teasing for shit on the internet. It's a sad day when we can't even disagree with people without being flamers or trolls. Clearly, all constructiveness anybody here said was all a ruse to call you out specifically and mock you publicly. There's just no justice in this world.

Which is insulting, because I really did like your artwork.

15 Name: godofwar1258 : 2011-07-19 15:11 ID:d4+v6YdG [Del]

Idk, I just would rather have people criticize me for the quality of my work than what I called it. It makes me feel like people aren't even looking at my work. I also think its strange people call me out on categorizing it wrong on here but, not on DeviantArt. They don't even have a "derivative" category to place it in on DeviantArt.

16 Name: Ayanavi : 2011-07-19 21:43 ID:g+c5Wxi7 [Del]

The majority of the comments were completely truthful, godofwar. Misuto legitimately liked your picture, and my comments on it were entirely honest.

The derivative thing was an on going joke, if you go re-read you'll find that you can ignore that part entirely and get our thoughts on it. So, aside from Soma (who may have been pursuing an intellectual debate?), we weren't trying to be mean.

>>14
I agree with you Misuto. There's too much butthurt in today's society.

>>16
No, I just thought it'd be kind of funny. I didn't mean to offend anyone though.

Aside from all that I think your picture is pretty clever and I like how clean the lines are even though it's just pen and paper

Sorry, had to point that out.
Anyway, I like the style as well. It reminds me of some of the stuff I like to do (see: http://dollars-bbs.org/art/src/1288841360071.jpg), only it has a more 'tribal' feel to it.

>>11 That isnt asbstract art, just a bad doodle.

For a moment I mistook this as a paper paste kind of art, pens and that are awesome.
