Sorry to bother you all, but I am thinking on saving up some money to buy a tablet - Does anyone have any recomendations?

Well I don't own a tablet myself but I have used some before. The big name and best is Wacom. But those are very expensive. If that is too expensive, you could get Bamboo Pen Tablet. That's Wacoms cheaper line of tablets but still good. Remember that you really don't need the biggest tablet. If you can I would try out different sizes to figure out which you feel most comfortable with.

Wacom is the most trusted and well known brand of tablet. Personally I think it's a matter of investment. It's a very high quality tablet that won't break on your or glitch (or I've never heard of a case). I've known people who've had different tablets, but they've had various problems with them and have all eventually turned to Wacom.

The good thing is wacom offers a lot of different kinds of tablets, from fairly cheap to a small fortune. Bamboo fun is its more casual use and cheaper line of tablets, but its still of wacom quality so you know that it will still last you years and years of use. I will recommend to anyone Wacom tablet, definitely, if you're looking for a tablet you are planning on using it for a long time. :D

Size- A small note about size. The larger it is, the more expensive. But larger does not necessarily equal better. In the professional art field, they don't like small tablets because no one actually draws small. (they consider it 'chicken scratches' or just doodling and such) However for just personal use, its fine and you may even perfer to draw smaller. Its just a matter of personal preference! So basically its perfectly fine to get a smaller tablet and you may even dislike bigger ones, it all depends on how big you are comfortable drawing! This is from personal experience b/c I've worked with tablets ranging from 4x6 to 12x18 and many in between :D

I have the Bamboo tablet. I don't believe it's the "fun" one. It cost me about 70$- cheap as they come, and it hasnt failed me yet. You may have to edit the setting, and don't forget to install the driver (which is free online). I've had this tablet for two years, and have never had a problem using it.

My tablet happens to be my computer screen. I have an HP Pavilion jx 2000 which happens to be made with wacom providing the tablet part of the screen. I like to see what i'm doing underneath my pen while I draw or write...it's like having a million x google pieces of paper with you on your computer....>.> if that makes sense
price-wise it's not bad...but it was a gift to me so I can't tell you the actual price of it...

And what kind of software do you guys use?
Is it something that comes with the tablet itself, or separate programs that you can buy/download?

Go with Wacom, a bit expensive but worth it.

As for software, I use the GIMP. Completely free and a good alternative to Photoshop.

I looked into Wacom for a while and personally, I feel 90% of the price comes from all of the processing they use for the packaging. You are pretty much buying their brand name when buying their products. Not that their tablets aren't good, but it's very easy to get one of the same quality for much cheaper. I own an Adesso CyberTablet M14. The dimensions are 12 in. x 7.25 in, and can also be changed to be 9.5 in. x 7.25 in.. The tablet features 1204 levels of pressure sensitivity and 4000 lines per inch. I have had mine for over a year and have had absolutely no trouble with it. Startup was as easy as plugging the thing in and loading up a disk. My pen is run on batteries but does not prove to be too heavy or anything. And the best thing about it is that the price ranges between $120-$200, depending on who you buy from. A Wacom with the same specs can be compared at $469, and their pens are known to break easily and can be difficult to replace on a timely basis.

Do the math.

WACOM WACOM WACOM WACOM WACOM.
Seriously. I made the wrong choice and bought some lame 'Genius' brand because I wanted to be 'different' from other tablet users. Bad idea. orz

Just buy a Wacom, or make sure you do your proper research. I didn't research mine very well- It was small, flimsy, and overall NOT WORTH IT. I finally fixed it yesterday [after 6 months of using a mouse] but it's broken again. orz [However, when it DID operate, it worked like awesome saucee. ROFLL] My friends' tablets have been working for a few years now [Bamboo Fun and Bamboo Pen]
Although Wacom tablets may be a bit pricey, they're damn worth it. [and they're so nice~ XDD]
