Nicolas Brown and Worick Arcangelo are two friendly neighborhood gangsters in the city of Ergastulum. Under the name 'Benriya' they can be hired for anything from fixing houses to deliveries to assassinations. On one of their jobs they rid Alex Benedetto of her abusive pimp and, not having anywhere else to go, she sticks around and becomes their secretary.

Gangsta is a seinen manga, it's about gangs and killing and stuff. It starts out a bit cryptic, as most of the story elements are yet to be introduced, but definitely draws you in as more of the setting and characters are fleshed out.

There are only 22 chapters available at the moment, but so far I'm really enjoying it. The art style is nice and distinctive and I really love the characters. Check it out yo.

Also, if you're familiar with Miwa Shirow's Dogs, you're gonna find that the two have more than a few things in common (nasty towns filled with crime, sad super-people), and if you enjoy one you're most likely going to enjoy the other.

Shit I never even considered that. Maybe it'll be like Blood Lad where they animate a bit and then go on a hiatus.

Yay! A thread for one of my favourite manga! Here's an updated announcement regarding the Gangsta. anime adaption:

The official Twitter account for the drama CD and anime project adapting Kohske's Gangsta. manga announced on Sunday that the anime project previously announced will be a TV anime series with animation by Manglobe (The Unlimited - Hyōbu Kyōsuke, Hayate the Combat Butler! Cuties). The announcement was made at a Gangsta. drama CD event earlier on Sunday.

Shukou Murase (Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic, Genocidal Organ) will direct the anime with series composition by Shinichi Inotsume (Hayate the Combat Butler, The Pilot's Love Song), and Koichi Hatsumi (Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King, Deadman Wonderland) is credited as series director. Yōichi Ueda will design the characters for the anime, and Tsutchie (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) will compose the music for the soundtrack. The series is scheduled to premiere in July 2015.

As previously announced, the cast will star:

Kenjiro Tsuda as Nicolas Brown
Junichi Suwabe as Worick Arcangelo
Mamiko Noto as Alex Benedetto
Ami Koshimizu as Constance Raveau
Hiroyuki Yoshino as Doug
Kana Ueda as Loretta Cristiano Amodio
Katsuhisa Houki as Daniel Monroe
Mikako Komatsu as Ginger
Takahiro Sakurai as Marco Adriano
Takuya Kirimoto as Ivan Grazef
Tetsu Inada as Galahad Woeho
Tsuyoshi Koyama as Miles Meyer
Yoshiko Sakakibara as Gina Paulklee
Satoshi Mikami as Theo
Aoi Yūki as Mina
Tomoaki Maeno as Yang
Tomohisa Hashizume as Delico
Tetsuo Kaneo as Chad Adkins
Kaito Ishikawa as Cody Balfour

The animation project was announced in July, but the announcement did not specify if the anime was a series, OVA, film, or other work.

>>10 OMG IT'S HAPPENING!!!

I just watched it though... And I was kinda hoping they would give a sliver of Nic's voice. Also disappointed in Alice, who (once again) is a black female character who is made lighter skinned in the manga than in the manga... She already looks completely white; they didn't need to make the skin lighter....

Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine. It's like when they gave the middle aged, badass, weapons enthusiast, military black chick from High School of the Dead a voice that sounded like it belonged to a teenage white girl...
Why!?

It's difficult enough finding black characters for cosplays ideas- and then you have to do THAT shit?

Ohhhh....I really like this manga!
I heard it will be turn into an anime this year XD

>>15 I don't think there's that much of a difference between how she looks in manga illustrations and in the anime, she's pretty light overall (manga manga anime). Not that that negates the issue you were talking about, anime doesn't really have a great track record with black characters.

I actually expected Nic's voice not to be in it, but I kind of wanted to hear Alex's voice. The PV looks nice overall though so I hope the anime will turn out ok :T

>>17 I see your point... It's just this particular scene... It just seemed like she's even lighter.

(I feel ashamed to say this, bc turning Gangsta into an anime is a HUGE treat for me since I've been following this for many years) I...I didn't like Worick's voice. I don't know... I think I just expected it to be more care-free sounding and a bit jovial when he's just talking, and then it would be serious (like in the PV) when he's fighting. His voice sounded so...plain to me.

>>18 It does yea.

Fun fact, he has the same VA as Grimmjow lol and Aomine (you watch KnB right?). Hopefully you'll get used to him.

>>19 HOLY FUCK YES I WILL.

21 Name: Arch_51 : 2015-03-27 21:16 ID:fZIQjVn5 [Del]

um, nice plot but hey, does Nic have no voice and is he using sign language? (I don't totally get it because Nic said he has no voice but every time there's a speech bubble (from him) he is moving his hand xD )

22 Name: Magnolia : 2015-03-28 04:04 ID:CpSxH5i6 [Del]

>>21 Well... Yeah... So that you know what the hell he's saying.

He's deaf, not mute. He'll occasionally speak (I think to Alex), but it's broken sounding and difficult to understand (because he's deaf).

>>17 >>18 As far as I know, the producers chose to keep the voice actors from the drama CD's cast. Here you can listen to an excerpt from the latter and get a taste of Benriya's voice acting:

GANGSTA匪徒 vol.6 CD drama

From what I got, they seem to have adaptated the first couple of scenes from the manga series (i.e. the very first chapter), so you can hear Worick first, then Barry and Alex and after that Worick and Nic.

Personally, I like Worick's voice quite a lot, he's very close to how I imagine it while reading. Nic's voice actor seems to do a good job, too, particularly the roughness, though I would have preferred if his voice were a tad deeper. As for Alex, I still don't know what to think about her casting choice. Maybe it's due to her character's bad condition, but she sounds too meek to me.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the anime and Tsuchie's soundtrack.

>>21 Even though he doesn't actually talk much, you'll probably hear him voice his thoughts if they stick to the voice-overs they used for the drama CD.

>>23 Thanx for sharing.
Why can't the rest of the world cater to fans like Japan's industry does? Like, this is some serious bullshit.
The K interview sessions between Misaki and Saruhiko were to die for. Hell, all of anime K's CD dramas are fuckin amazing...

And the recording of characters singing, like Connie and Eren singing the SNK op song? I haven't ever laughed so hard.

Can't wait for the anime. Saw the PV... T-T Waahh I haven't heard Nic speaking yet T-T

I shall listen to that vol.6 drama cd!!!!
