Somewhere is a mysterious bar known as the Quindecim, where a lone bartender named Decim works. Whenever two people emerge from the bar's elevators, those two must participate in a Death Game with their lives on the line, the results of which will reveal what secrets led them there and what their fate will be afterwards..

Death Billiards is a short anime movie produced by Madhouse as part of the Anime Mirai Project 2013. With it as a sort of "pilot", the anime series Death Parade was later announced. It started airing on January 10th and is going to be 12 episodes long.

The anime seems somewhat episodic, focusing on a pair of dead people and their stories one at a time, but it also looks like it's going to develop its cast of arbiters and other inhabitants of that limbo or whatever that is. The initial short had really nice animation and high production values and the series maintains the seam high standards. It's a pretty stunning anime to look at.

Amazing animation, awesome OP & ED, interesting characters, each story is grabbing. I love it!

The reason behind adding a description/synopsis is that if someone is interested in the anime they can read the description/synopsis in the opening thread post with out having to go into the thread to see if it has one.

plus if you look all well made threads about anime here will or should have a description/synopsis in the opening thread post, also it's not even that hard to get a description/synopsis all you need is to google Wikipedia about what ever anime and copy & past the description or even copy one from an anime website.

Funnily enough I almost never read descriptions for threads other people make. But I appreciate their existence.

I started watching this anime after the first two episodes came out and I love it omg. Kinda sucks though cause none of my friends have started watching it so I don't really have many people to talk to about it

I just caught up last weekend and this anime is pretty amazing-
its totally addictive!

Any idea on where this is headed though? It'd be nice if they brought in some sort of bigger plot. I so want to know what the old man from Billiards spoke to Decim about

I love so much this anime. the opening is awesome. one of my favorite anime in this season

It's an interesting anime in my opinion , it make you really think about the plot of the episode which i really like about it. I would recommend this anime for those who like watching psychological animes

The episode about the celebrity mum and otaku gave me a whole lot of feels...

The whole thing is so colorful and awesome, the characters all have some sort of mystery about them and there is a whole lot of mind game type of thing. Worth watching

I really want to know exactly what traits they judge people on though. especially after the episode with the otaku and the celeb

I liked how Onna challenged their judgement in ep 2 and was actually surprised to see that Decim hadn't thought of it that way. I thought it was just a test for her to see if she'd notice more subtle things or something. But what it did was show me that Decim wasn't actually that good at his job.

Since then nothing much interesting has happened. Though I think the ep with the two childhood friends was pretty nice because I expected all stories to be super dramatic downers and I liked seeing that that was not the case. The episodic characters' life stories are still very cliche and the reveals not very exciting :T

the otaku didn't excatly do anything bad in his life from his flashback exept for not acceppting his step mother but the celeb sure did alot of thing specially during the game her regret and wanting to go back not gonna change anything

The lady ended up doing mean things to others and having her ambition get the better of her after having to suffer through a lot of unpleasant shit in her life too.

I see their situation as very similar. Both their lives were negatively affected by past trauma that changed them as people. They were both portrayed sympathetically. As a viewer I really didn't get why I should see one's actions as excusable and one as not.

Episode five was superb. Some more insight on the world and more questioning of Decim's decisions. Also, cosmic pool.

Great plot, amazing animation, love the characters, love each different episodes they bring. I watched Death Billiards by Anime Mirai before and I am pleased to see that they've made an anime based on the movie. So far, another favourite anime that is much anticipated this season. ;)

I thought the OP was good enough as was, but goddamn, the dorkiness in its music video makes it a whole new tier of great. /o/

The Op song was so happy-go-lucky that I thought it was a slice of life anime or something. AAAAaaaaand the content of the episode of the first episode was completely different from the OP. This anime is soooooo good though.

nicely different, and the lack of a big solid plot is kind of refreshing, this is a really surprising newcomer, like all new anime in the past years has been kind of... lame...
and there ain't even any manga or novels to back up the anime? just the movie? haven't seen it tho...

It's a nice mash-up of "should-be" horror, comedy, mystery, and the plot twists are nothing to scoff at.
I put this at 2 on the list of some of my favourites.

I wrote a bit about this in the latest FGJ post, but I don't prefer one tone over the other per se, and I think a huge part of why I like Death Parade so much is because it can switch between them so smoothly.

Do you ever laugh thinking that if you pronounce "death" like it's pronounced in Japanese it's basically Desu Parade.

Aaaaah... The seasons over already, no more op to look forward too. No more emotionless (now emotional) Decim or Chiyuki and now there's no more Nona. Well... Time to re-watch ^~^

I was busy having an emotion over Chiyuki and her mom crying, but then when Decim started feeling an incredible feel it....made me laugh, which isn't good. It was supposed to be touching, but for some reason I just couldn't take him seriously.

And I realized after rooting sfor them to make out for so long that my wishes were inappropriate, Decim is actually too Pure.

All in all a pretty ok show. I enjoyed it overall.

Great anime which gave me a lot of feels haha. Probably my personal favorite of Winter 2014-2015.

Gonna watch the last episode in a bit. Expecting great stuff.

This has probably been my favorite show this season behind the new DRRR and the unbeatable Shirobako. Easily 9/10 tier stuff and my favorite Madhouse show in quite a while.

The part where Chiyuki went crying with her mom and Decim feeling 'emotional' and shiz gave me the feels T-T. Although I like the series and it's last episode, I kind of feel like... it's not enough. Like there should be a season two (Because everyone doesn't like a good anime to end XD) or something. I dunno, it's just like there should be more to it or something
