The primary thing that bothered me about Black was the voice acting and the second guy.

Yeah, that guy? Definitely a burden. Let's leave him with the rest of the train - Far the fuck behind and never to be seen again.

I've rewatched the trailer a couple times trying to hear the song - But I can't. Because dumbfuck keeps opening his mouth. And blotting it out. With the shittiest of voices. Saying the stupidest of things.

Black hit it dead on - "Don't be so goddamn dramatic."

So our record so far is..

Red: Great song, great character, fun fight scene.
White: Great song, great voice acting, awesome fight scene.
Black: Is there a song? dumbfuck keeps talking, I can't hear it. Dumbfuck has shit voice acting. I personally dislike this entire fight scene because of how dumbfuck keeps butting in.

The only redeeming property was that dumbfuck (hopefully) got left behind entirely.

Dollars could dub over the trailer? Sounds fun. But these are trailers for a brand new project in a medium roosterteeth isnt used to led by Monty whos working with only a handful of animators and writers. I expect hes got more room to go and critisism to take. Im very hopeful for the series and I want it to be a thing.

The voice acting for Black was so SHITTY!!!! I honest didn't believe I was hearing it right. I restarted it just to make sure. They need to get some different voices for the show, or just dont' have any voices in it at all.

I didn't think the voice acting was bad enough to eclipse the rest of it. And Adam's not too shitty of a character if you let it sink in a bit - he just has that kind of vibe that makes you dislike him because he's introduced as a badass without context.

But he didn't seem any more badass than Blake. If anything, he was underwhelming - that one shot at the end was simply a counterattack after absorbing that mech's blast; it didn't technically rely on his own power or skill.

Then we have Blake, whipping around her chain-sickle gunblade with deadly accuracy, skillfully handling that mech all on her own to buy Adam time. In no way was she presented as less capable than him - in fact I came off with the impression she was the more capable of the two; their mission was just a two-person job.

As far as the music goes, I got something else out of it.
Ruby's theme was latin/folk sounding, after the vocal intro.
Weiss's theme was orchestral, and heavily vocal.
Blake's theme was rock/metal.

Respectively, it paints their settings well. Ruby is off in some forest, country area away from civilization. Weiss was in a music hall - somewhere high class, and almost anachronistic. Blake was clearly in a more urbanized, industrial place. It makes me wonder what the setting and accompanying musical theme Yellow will be in.

I really only had an issue with Adam's voice acting and dialogue; everything else was just as amazing as the previous two. Ruby's still takes the cake for most action oriented, however - fitting, as she's likely the main character.

One last thing: Anyone notice the moon, over the course of all three trailers?

It seems a lot of people didn't like either the voice acting or the music. I kinda agree on both but its nothing to rage about. I mean calm down, its their first take on something new besides RvB.

What I'm wondering is how much is their budget on the whole project, cause Funimation is in Dallas/Forth Worth and Rooster Teeth is in Austin. They could send their stuff to get dub over with better voice actors. Don't you think?

I thought that the voice acting for Blake was good. Adam could've used a little work though, he sounds a bit forced... As far as the music goes, I thought it was great! Suited Blake awesomely =] Everything else was pretty much what I expected. Badass fighting with badass weapons.

I had no idea what RoosterTeeth was when I first saw this a couple of months ago, after completely forgetting I inadverdantly stumbled onto one of the trailers on their youtube channel yesterday. I wouldn't really call this Anime, it's a different style. Looks really good though, did not like the males voice in black however.

Roosterteeth is amazing, and I've watched all the trailers that are out so far for RWBY and it looks freakin' AWESOME. Even though they might need to work on their voice acting a bit. I honestly thought it was a video game at first, and my mind was blown when I found out it was a show xD Bumpity bump bumps for Roosterteeth.

I didn't like the voice acting for Black, but I guess it would be kinda repetitive if all the trailers had awesome fight scene with awesome music to match. I loved the Red and White though.

Although I can understand how you would call it repetitive, I think that having the trailers showcase their skills and showing how much of a badass all of them are would've been just fine. After all the girls had been introduced may have have been a better time to go for more story-driven trailers.

I love the Ruby, then White, then Yellow, then Black~

I think people were only disappointed with Ruby's voice because they had already started to think it would be different. Most people, from what I gather from fanart and such, thought she would be a quiet, serious badass, since her trailer was pure fighting and no voice.

But Monty had the idea in mind from the start that she would be happy-go-lucky. I think with that in mind it makes thinking about her voice not so bad - and to be honest, I kind of like it.

On Ruby's voice i think its fine if shes a bit quirky just as long as the voice acting matches up to the character and doesnt seem so forced like a lot of the scenes are.

All the experienced voice actors from roosterteeth are busy with RvB season 11 :/ thats probably why the VA in RWBY is sub par

i am really excited for this! i like how all of the characters balance out strength ans speed wise. Weiss has really high speed but really low strengh, Ruby has moderate high speed and moderate low strength, Blake has moderate high strength and moderate low speed, and Yang has really high strength but really low speed. XD

Blake rivals Weiss, so she is second fastest to tied first fastest. Accept it.

Episode One

I didn't think I'd like Ruby that much. Her voice acting in the Y trailer left much to be desired, and I've never been a fan of the energetic archetype.

But then Ruby happened and I just want to cuddle her forever.

It was so great that she actually distracted me sufficiently enough to completely miss just how attractive Headmaster Ozpin was. I had to rewatch the first episode several times before I stopped being distracted by Ruby being adorable and noticed him.

This is going to be so much fun.

Also very glad that Ruby's voice acting improved.

The robbers though...dear lord, that was terrible. The tone was so...not threatening at all.

The animation in the non-action scenes leaves a bit to be desired though. I get that they're not aiming for that style and that there are probably impacting budget restraints, but I find the lack of shading to be a little off-putting. It'll probably grow on me with time though.

Curious to see how this evolves. I'm particularly interested in learning more of the setting and world this takes place in.

First episode was absolutely brilliant! I loved it.

I actually disagree, the animation really appeals to me. I love the animation for the series because it feels very simple and emphasized. The reds aren't just shades, it's all one very vibrant plate of red that just shouts "look at me!", and most other colors work like that as well.

It's such a pleasant change to me from looking at canvases of art that range through like 200 hexadecimal codes for a gradient to get the shading just right. It's unrepentant, irreverent, and proud.

So, 16 episodes of varying length times... interesting in both sense. On 1 hand you got 16 eps. which isn't a long anime but isn't a short one either. On the other hand, vary length times means you gotta pay attention too each ep. cause you never know if the next ep. will be 5mins or 10min. Does it seem like i'm reading too much into that little info? ^^

*webcartoon. It isn't anime unless it's actually made in Japan. It's like saying Avatar the Last Airbender is an anime, even though it's just an anime inspired cartoon.

Tidbits aside, yes, you're probably reading too much into it. I don't think anyone cares how long or short it is, as long as it can entertain us to the fullest and get plot moving or something.

I've downloaded pretty much all the music to come out so far, and have been steadily building a RWBY folder. A lot of the images I can't post here due to size constraints, but suffice to say I've been looking at some of them for wallpapers.

I'm still kind of eh. I love the fight scene animation and choreography. I like the idea of the art, but I don't think they took it far enough. If the scenery and clothes are going to be almost entirely unshaded aside from detailing lines, then the hair and eyes shouldn't be blended as if they were colored by a child just learning to use gimp.

I don't mind the idea of outlining the characters and clothing. Again, though, they just didn't take it far enough. Make those outlines thick. Give it some personality. It's like the art department didn't have enough confidence in their style to push it when how different itis from other shows is all they really have.

I'm also a bit disappointed after seeing Episode One in terms of Ruby. Don't get me wrong - she's a fine character. It feels like her personality was just completely changed from the trailer. She was so serious fighting in the trailer; when fighting in episode one, though, she wasn't taking it seriously at all. As much as I love Yang, I don't think we're going to see any mature emotion from Ruby unless something happens with Yang or a future friend.

The length of the episodes also worries me somewhat. Yeah, we got the meat of the situation. We understand what's going on. But there was a lot of little details left out of the first episode that I think could have tied everything together a bit more. I also think the animators were getting lazy by zooming out behind the wall during the start of Ruby's fight scene as well as at the end of the episode when Yang and Ruby first met a member from Team B.

Hopefully, the bantering will be a bit more humorous in future episodes. I have a bit more faith in the writers than in the art/animators at this point.

Also, DAT MUSIC. I don't care what Yata says. I am eating this soundtrack up o3o

John's voice keeps shifting between dorky and flirtatious. Pick one personality, voice actor :L

The art and clothing design of the male characters are waaay better than the female characters thusfar. A lot more detail was put into John's appearances than the main girls when he's just from Team B, which just... doesn't seem right. If the art team didn't believe in their abilities to design female characters because they're guys, they should have asked the girls on the team to help design them =_=

Annd there are my thoughts as I watched it. All in all, my opinions have only gotten more negative about the series thanks to the second episode. Not only has Weiss proven to be a stereotype, but Blake is the loner none of us wanted her to be, and it's become clear that Ruby is just a plot device for Monty to live out his story idea without paying mind to how realistic she seems as a person and and character together.

Blake turned out to be the typical environmental activist girl.

And... Weiss Princess'd in the wrong direction.

If Ruby hadn't existed and become more my favorite character, I feel like a critical depression level would have been reached in this episode. Her development into a somewhat lonely, weapon-nerd, eager-to-prove girl has hit all these great spots for me.

It's almost enough to make me forget Weiss.

I think both Blake and Weiss would profit as characters if Weiss was the rich loner with a few tricks up her sleeve and Blake was the bitch from a pathetically hard life.

Rather than, you know. Weiss being the stereotypical spoiled rich bitch and Blake being the environmentalist loner who's seen the bad side of town.

Anime might not refer to specifically Japanese animation, but that's only in the eyes of the Japanese. All of us aren't Japanese, are we? We were influenced with "Cartoons being funny looking animations" and anime being "big eyes and NOT funny looking". Making it into different genres of sorts. And if we're gonna come up with one altogether terminology, why not just cartoons? Anime are cartoons, western animations are obviously cartoons, so cartoons works. And plus, it's older, since the west came up with animated cartoons in the 1800s while Japanese came up with animated cartoons in thr early 1900s.

And anime styled might as well equal anime influenced.

Meanwhile back in "On-Topic"-ville. I question the use of blacking out the irrelevant background characters. They didn't black out the mooks in the first episode, so... why?

If he was flirting while being dorky, that'd be different, but there were a few lines where he sounded like a completely different character.

I am a fan of this! I just finished watching the third episode. I like Yang (yellow) the most but all the other characters are cool too.

Episode 3 was the best episode so far. Weiss is looking much more likable now, and Blake remains worst girl!

Aside from the fact that I just love his reviewing style, most of my thoughts align with his. Differences being I'm pretty harsh on the music (still not really digging it, sorry) and I don't have any expectations for this anymore. If it wows me, so be it, but I'm a little disappointed with how it's been so far.

Is it weird though that I don't hate Blake? She's probably my second favorite behind Ruby.

But like you said, Weiss is a cold ojou type - I probably won't like her character until she starts not being a bitch. At the very least, Blake just doesn't give two shits, instead of giving every shit in the wrong direction.

I can't wait for Yang to really get going though, since right now she's, in Navi's words, the "orbiting cool big sis type." Because that's fine and all, it stabilizes her at a "still likeable" level, but that's all it does.

All in all I'm still really glad that the series is as good as it is - I had a mild anxiety that it wouldn't live up to its enormous hype and the crash from "insanely amazing" down to "pretty alright" would have everyone lambasting it as if it was the worst shit out of disappointment.
But that didn't happen, so that's neither here nor there! /o/

Aya, you clearly don't know me, but I won't get into that. I dislike the music because the vocalist's voice sounds empty and gaspy, the lyrics are usually pretty trite, and while the musicians are competent, it isn't memorable in any way. I won't deny that it fits the series well though.

This show is on a slippery slope. Unlike what Suto said, I think I've already reached the point of disappointment, though part of that was I wasn't hyping this up for months and thus went into it almost completely objectively. Does that make me a bit more critical than the average guy? Yeah, sure. Am I still trying to like it? Of course. Do I think RWBY is absolutely abysmal? Hell no. It's just not worth all this hype and defensiveness in my opinion.

As Suto said, it's "pretty alright". I don't see it as anything more than that for the time being. People take opinions of averageness the wrong way too often. I don't think it sucks, it just isn't great.

This looks amazing i have watched all 4 trailers for Red, White, Black and Yellow (RWBY) and first 4 sorta episode things, i heard the first series will officially be out in the 2nd week of November 2013 is this true?

Watched episode 4 a few times. I loved the beginning with the green guy's blank stare of long-suffering tolerance, and loved the ending with everyone getting launched.

The ending in particular though really amused me. The Headmaster continues to be great, and his ever-present coffee mug got me laughing for some reason.

That said, though - Jean's personality is started to get explained a bit now. I had no clue why he kept flipflopping between dork and try-hard playboy, but I'm starting to think that they aren't mutually exclusive. He is a dorky playboy. Don't like him or dislike him right now, but he's still an amusing comic relief.

now, from Jeane, we see this new girl Pyrria, or however you spell this name. Her voice actor - God. Dammit. Every one of her lines just... I don't... why.

I'm hoping she eases into it later as she gets used to voice acting, but jesus christ that was bad.

I didn't expect you to complain about her voice, tbh. Like usually I can tell which characters people might take issue with, but for some reason it didn't even cross my mind with her. Might have to revisit the episode - what exactly about her voice is grating?

Speaking of grating, I'm seeing some elements of this series that may come off as unappealing to people with set-in-stone expectations of what is good, cliche, or just bad. Particularly, the over-the-top cartoony/animesque moments, like in the 2nd and 3rd episodes. But I kind of like them, once I get used to them.

Unlike some series, those potentially "annoying" moments have decent timing and aren't used to the point of flanderization of the entire series. Which is more than I could say for some shows that don't hold back with them.

On another note, I like the new characters that keep being introduced - they all have great personalities in their own way, in my opinion. It's good to have a cast of individuals rather than four main characters and their indistinguishable teammates.

Speaking of that, it seems like Monty's going to slowly characterize each new character, and more and more, those blacked-out bystanders are going to fill out. I'm wondering if that's a stylistic choice, or something more important... but I don't want to create assumptions.

Anyway, landing strategy!

The VA she has seems unused to voice acting, so there's this weird disconnect with the tone of her lines. Like, as a viewer, you can tell she is remembering/speaking lines as opposed to being a character actually saying them.

I think it'll get better once she's more used to it, or I hope so, anyway.

I'm almost ashamed that I actually go out of my way to watch a 5 minute clip every 7 days. There's doing things quick, and then there's... really? I waited a week for this? This one was probably just a product of really bad timing: Can't animate the fight sequence without taking forever, but they had already launched previously.

There really wasn't a whole lot to be done.

Well, as far as the episode - Ruby continues to be adorable, with the best lines of "BIRDY NO" and "YOU CAME BACK :D", the emoticon is required. As are the caps.

One thing of note is Pyrra's voice. She still sounds unique, but it's not as awkward as it was last episode. Her and Jean are kind of cute together, but am I the only one who started getting yandere vibes? She didn't land - She punched clean through at least three trees, immediately whipped out a rifle to sniper-sight Jean down, and then pinned him to a tree for easy location.

"Let the chips fall where they may", my ass. Holy shit, look at that girl go. She is an implacable badass who will fucking wreck you and... then she gets to Jeane and is shy and bashful again.

Pyrra aside though, starting to like Weiss a bit more, and Yang had her chance to shine as she shotgun-fisted her way through the sky in fucking aviators.

The newest episode (8) was so awesome! I love how they got to show Nora's weapon. The fighting scenes were really well done, and the soundtracks, particularly the new remix of Red Like Roses, was really good. My favourite character is Blake. [Spoiler!] During episode 8 when Blake got knocked off by Nora, I find it really great that no one came to save her, but she saved herself. I'm really excited for the next episode. ^^

Called the Blake thing before the show even started. Anyway, I'm really liking where this show is going. Any other thoughts?

I think that RWBY is an awesome anime, but the art obviously is a big let down, can't be too harsh though. Because it's only a handful of people creating such a series. I hope in the future, they'd bring in more and more people to focus on RWBY so that the art, especially the animation are more "professional".

I'm happy for the confirmed 8-12 minute on average episodes. Really nice to hear. Watching the dev diaries they've really expanded employment for the whole project. The team is larger, the episodes are higher in quality. And i'm very excited.

Well guys i think its a little bit not good.cause i already have seen all 16 ep.

Finished this yesterday. I saw the series before and thought the synopsis/overview looked dumb so I never gave it a chance. Then I saw a fan game based on it called Grimm Eclipse which was insanely good, so I tried the first episode and fell in love with it. The animation is very unique. It reminds me of Canadian and French animations. Sometimes the animations seem lifeless, but it is more than made up for in the fight scenes and the small amount of character development. A great series and I can't wait for volume 2.

i also seen all the sixteen series and i think the art is meeh

I thought I ought to resurrect this post considering recent events at Rooster Teeth, RWBY's production company...in case you didn't know, the creator of the series, Monty Oum, passed away last month and it's left many people to wonder what will happen with the next season. I'm sure they have plans and the series will keep moving forward! I was pretty upset to hear the news and many of the community members were too. I can only wish the best for them and the series. R.I.P. Monty Oum, a huge inspiration.

Too lazy to read all of the posts, but I like to think of RWBY as the opposite of AoT/SnK. It's way more positive and bright and less dark/depressing, unless you think of crazy--admittedly plausible--theories surrounding the themes. There are two videos up about it already, World of Remnant and the opening animation. The hype train has no brakes. From what I can gather on the opening, volume 3 will be taking a more serious route that the others.

Just thought I'd leave an update on V3, I'm super pumped.

The voice acting is getting better too compared to season 1. Really liking the darker plot to the story. Monty was so talented he created amazing fast paced fighting sequences! Anyone seen his dead fantasy series? If not I highly recommend checking it out.

Why Phyrrha!? Why!? She got shot in the Achilles tendon of all places, too! She got hit in the place named after the character she was based off! Why did she have top dye!? Why did Cinder take her life!?
That said I hope there is a volume 4. I would like to see how they defeat Roman, Cinder and the White Fang.

It's actually gotten shittier. I keep watching it in the hope that their animation team will actually learn how to do realistic movements and that their writers will learn to write plot without obvious cliches and expected twists, but it's just not happening.

The art in the latest season is pretty fucking hilarious, though. Say hello to perpetually blushing female characters! They all look like lupus victims with a butterfly rash lmao
