My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a show that has defied many of its initial expectations. At first glance, it is an amazingly childish, girlish, and ultimately infantile show, but upon a second look, one finds well developed characters and a story that was obviously written with great thought, as well as enough references to modern culture to pique the interest of the most defiant of the genre.

So come on in, try the show. That's all we ask, try around ten episodes or so. I can almost certainly say that you will not regret it. Seriously, that's like 3.5 hours of your time. Akin to watching Lord of the Rings. And who honestly didn't like Lord of the Rings?

Remember, we WILL love and tolerate the SHIT out of you. Seriously, we will.

Ok, so I found a comic a while ago on DeviantArt about a purple unicorn OC who is trying to figure out why he is the only unicorn with a double swirl on his horn. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this comic and perhaps had a link to it. I can't remember the name of the comic but he is able to disguise himself as other ponies by pasting fake cutie marks over his own which causes his entire body to change. And random pic since because pickles.

So, some news on season three: we get a two-parter for the premier. Opening episode concerns the crystal kingdom and an artifact called the Crystal Heart.

Also, this crystal kingdom is located in the arctic north, apparently. So I suppose Crystal refers to ice rather than minerals, eh?

So many theories as to the new race of ponies... can't wait for a release date. (And no, Hasbro hasn't said a damn thing...)

One of the current theories is that the Crystal Pony Kingdom/Empire/Republic/Tsardom/whatever is phasing in and out of reality. It explains why we haven't heard of ANOTHER BLOODY COUNTRY in Equestria. In addition, one of the songs that was spoilered talks about saving the Crystal ponies with their history, implying that something in their history will anchor them into the dominant reality.
Oh, and apparently Cadence is the leader of the Crystal Ponies or something. Which would make a bit of sense, due to the fact that alicorns are seemingly immortal.

Then again, is is all currently fanbased speculation. Well, except for the song talking about saving them with their history.

Amazon is currently allowing preordering of a new DVD of MLP, set for December. In addition to the Season 3 premiere, several other episodes have been confirmed on it, including NightMare Night and the time-travel episode. Boast Busters (episode featuring Trixie) was also confirmed. Since we know that Trixie will be returning in Season 3, we can assume that characters/plot devices from the other episodes will be in Season 3. So, we can assume that Princess Luna will be appearing. However, what I am hoping to see is the oft-mentioned Starswirl the Bearded. Ok, for those it may concern whilst on this topic:

There are some people who take MLP too far. On the opposite side of the fandom lie the bronies who take the show and heighten it to a religion, the ones who believe the show is the best thing to grace the human race.

It is not.

It is a television show, remember that. It does teach morals, yes, but those morals should be common sense enough for some people to understand.

And no, you shouldn't go "shove the show down another's throat," because again, it's a television show. You don't go to someone and tell them that this is the best anime ever while wearing 5 different articles of clothing claiming your allegiance, hounding them until they give in with every fiber of their being into ponydom.

Keep in mind this goes both ways.

When people post about the cartoon, it is certainly not in a good spirit to immediately spout "OMG BRONY SCUMBAG!" This is about as childish as the people who heighten it to a religion, on the far right of the fandom.

Nor is it appropriate to hound down all pony threads with a vengeance in order to achieve your perfect ideal internet forum (it doesn't exist). Threads across other sites have derailed at the word "tolerance" (I'm not kidding), without a single pony picture.

This is, plain and simple, overreacting.

People like a television show. So what? No one hounds you down criticizing your appreciation of an anime.

Both far sides are, of course, the extremes. There are plenty of normal people who simply think of the show as just that: a show. They enjoy conversing about it, much like they do with other shows.

I assure you that there are only a small percentage on either far side, but the silent majority always goes unnoticed.

I will watch it every once in a while, but when other people come up to me and try and kidnap me into the Land Of The Bronies it makes me want to avoid them as much as possible. James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, and even The Big Lebowski have all had brief cameos. Unfortunately, no. Hasbro is being unusually tight-lipped about this. However, with logic, we can narrow down a date.

Hasbro will likely release the first episode on a Saturday, just like the rest of the episodes. This limits us to the 3rd, 10th, 17, and 24. They won't release right after Thanksgiving, because that would put the two-parter too close to the launch date of the DVD that has it. This means we can knock out the 24th. In all likely hood, I am betting on the 10th; the 3rd is too close to Halloween/NightMare Night.

Honestly though, hasn't anyone noticed this? All of the alicorns are female. Celestia, Luna, Cadence; now there is Prince Shining Armor WHO ISN'T AN ALICORN and Prince Blueblood WHO ALSO ISN'T AN ALICORN! In fact, there is only one princess who wasn't an alicorn: Princess Platinum, who was in the Hearth's Warming Eve Pageant. She was a unicorn. So currently that sets up a 1:3 precedent for the princesses while we have a 2:0 for princes.

Well, I have literally just saw a commercial for the new season. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but last night I was able to look ahead in the schedule on my cable box and saw that MLP and Littlest Pet Shop are going to both be on November 10. A bit late, but here all the same.

Donut Steel's character (excuse me, Lord Sombra) seemed really underdeveloped, but I just think everyone's expectations were set high after season 2's finale.
The Hub probably didn't help with all the pre-leaked footage, and probably could've kept things a bit more under wraps up until the end. Still, the ending was better than "the power of love", and they avoided focusing ENTIRELY on Twilight Sparkle, actually giving Spike a chance for once.

We might as well just say she's a background character at this point. Seriously, she watched a rock.

Other than that: it wasn't that bad, really. I honestly just had unrealistically (as I'm sure others had) high expectations for the opening with the new villain and all. It's unfortunate he had so little screen time (less that GAK, actually), but it worked as an archetypal villain. Sad that we didn't see him as much in pony form, but then again, same thing can be said of Nightmare Moon and her cloud-morphing.

The finale really raised a lot of questions, however.
What I'm mainly leaning towards is the "next step" or "destiny" saved for Twilight Sparkle, which (depending on how it's played out) may be a good or bad thing, based on my assumption.

Still: overall pretty enjoyable, although the shorter season is a bit of a downer, but it seems like they've got some pretty good stuff up ahead. Guess we'll wait and see.

Ok, so on a whim after hearing Blithe from The Littlest Pet Shop imitate Rainbow Dash I visited IMDB and found out that they are indeed the same voice actress. Also, those who voice the mane 6 were all born in Canada. Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out or knew, so I decided to share so trivia with everyone.

As for Twilight's "next step," I believe it might be towards becoming an alicorn. The reason I think this is that she had the same background as the princesses when they were talking and she has as incredible amount of magic at her disposal. I'm also wondering if Luna is taking notes on the process, mainly due to the end of the second episode of the season premiere. I'm not sure if this is spoiler for anyone so I'm gonna drop down a few lines so that you can not read it if you want...






Ok, hopefully that's far enough, but to continue what I was saying earlier is that if you watch at the end, you'll see that Luna conjures up a notebook from somewhere. That makes me question where she got the notebook from and what she's writing in it.

1. Even though AppleJack isn't my favorite pony out of the mane 6, I'm glad she was able to get her own song. The other ponies seemed to be getting more singing opportunities than her so it's nice to hear her sing.
2. I'm really excited for the upcoming episode, especially since Discord will be in it. I just love Discord and the premise sounds interesting. I wonder if this means there'll be a trend going on with former villains. Trixie came back in "Magic Duel" and in the end she reformed herself. Now we have Fluttershy willing to try to reform Discord. I'm just saying, whether he does or doesn't isn't a big deal to me I'm just curious if a new trend is starting.

I never really considered myself to be a depressed guy, but due to the previous life changing events I have been through, I have been a complete wreck.
I've been having occasional cases of sever depression and anxiety attacks, I have also spent a lot of time pondering about life in general, simply making me even more depressed.
My life was literally seconds away from ending in one night and I had nothing to show for it.
My hopes and dreams would simply be gone forever, because I decided to go out and ease my stress for one night.

Nowadays there are only a few things that makes me forget and smile again. Friends and Family, Music, and MLP.
I hope that these feeling will dissolve with time, but if not, I'll consider seeking professorial help.
(I'm being very vague with the story I know, but I kind of don't want to get too much into detail about it, I hope that's okay.)

I love MLP! I mean, I've always thought it was a pretty good show, for one being aimed at kids. The characters are much more developed yet different from each other than the characters in some animes, which is pretty awesome. It didn't save me as much as a few other things, but it did help.

Gosh, I still remember laying my eyes on my first pony (Rainbow Dash) and just falling in love. Rainbow Dash, Flutter Shy, Vinyl Scratch, and Doctor Whooves have to be my favorite.

I just saw the new episode and I really liked it :) Now without giving away too many spoilers, do you believe Discord will appear in future episodes more often or maybe only once in a while?

I've heard about MLP quite long ago but never tried to watch it since today. I have no reason for having waited such a long time before watching it actually. And I don't regret it at all ! I was just like "well everybody speaks about it, I should definitely try and see". After 2 episodes I am already hooked on it.

Despite me really wanting this thread dead Heath-Ledger-style and the extinction of most brony-kind Hitler-style and the show canceled MEGAS-XLR-style and most of the pizzas that worked on the show dead Jeffery-Dahumer-style (despite me loving the Charles-Manson style freakouts that all butthurt bronies get whenever I say something that MIGHT be viewed as anti-brony (>>156 >>157) (even though in all reality it is not)), I think this site, though, in all techncality, this thread being in the appropriate section, should take anything anti-brony off.

Ok, that might not be their actual title. But I believe that it is something akin to the Olympics. Which means we may see a certain multi-chromatic maned pegasus in Praetorian Armor again.

I just want the show to stop since they are kinda making stupid decisions (like only giving one of the big bads two lines in the whole series before he's destroyed) and doing stupid things (though, I don't mind that the show caters to adults once in a while) and with the cancelation of the show (in my hopes) the fandom will start to die off slowly.

Let me address some concerns.

1) But ponies ARE posted outside of this thread, on Random for instance.
1A) As long as they're relevant to the thread, then yes. GIF's of ponies have been posted in the .gif thread, there's no reason they shouldn't be allowed there as such. They are gifs, after all, and there's not really a reason large enough to say that they can't be posted there.

2) People post pony reaction images outside of the pony thread, this shouldn't be allowed.
2A) Same could be said of animes. Although I will admit that pony reaction images have been posted more than a single anime's reaction images by count, although we have adressed this in the last thread by limiting posts with just images (to prevent relentless bumping of the thread), and discouraging posting too much of it elsewhere at some time. Since not everyone is a self-centered bastard, they usually take into account others' annoyance on this site and refrain from posting them every applicable time. Anyone who does do this however, has, and will be asked to stop (as done in the past).

3) But they ARE posted more than anime images, you even said so!
3A) Why yes, they are. However, as addressed in the first thread, others were asked to reduce the amount of these posts, and people gladly complied after some time. If someone is spamming pony images (or any images/ posts for that matter), than it can be qualified as spamming the site, and would be encouraged to be reported to the admin, or a mod in the IRC.
If it's not enough to be qualified as 'spamming', then there's no real reason to ban/ disallow it, so long as it has some relevance. (keep in mind while Spiderman is spammed, it is not banned/ disqualified, regardless of how annoying it may be)

4) But I don't like ponies. Can you please stop posting them, they're annoying.
4A) If we took away ever kind of image or post that annoyed people on this site, there wouldn't be anything left. There are going to be things that annoy people, and there's nothing really you, nor I can do about it.
Still, people have been asked in the past to reduce/ stop posting ponies for some time (as in the past), and have complied most times. Again, not everyone's an asshole enough to bother someone when they know what they're doing is annoying others.

While I'm glad you at least 'approached [the show] with an open mind' and gave it a try, I really don't understand why you even came to this thread, if your intent was simply to voice your displeasure to it.

Ok, so I've read the description of the new episode where Twilight becomes an alicorn and I don't think that she's actually going to be crowned as a princess. The description says that Twilight messed up a spell and switches everyone's cutie marks and destinies. Ok, so I have found these articles and the second one actually has links to help prove what I'm about to tell you. They're making a spin-off to MLP where they're all humans. In the light of the whole Twilicorn thing that was going on, I think that this might just blow that out of the water. This apparently shouldn't affect the equines that we've come to know and love. I for one am going to at least give the show a chance and see what they have planned for all of them and I would like to ask the rest of you to do the same as well. So now that I've had my say, what do you all think about this?

Welp, the end of the season. Did it live up the expectations of everyone? Nope. Not even close.

I appreciated many things about the episode; the fact that it reference many things from previous episodes, the return of a certain muffin-loving mailmare, and PINKEMENA. Yup.

But.....

I mean, we all have been saying it since the beginning; Twilight is going to become an alicorn. WHICH IS NOW THE CANON NAME. We had a discussion on that a while back.

But still, making Twilight an alicorn is like a FINAL EPISODES thing to do. Now we have an entire season to see what..... Princess Twilight is going to do in certain scenarios. She has also essentially master the magic of friendship, so she can't really study that anymore. I suppose Celestia could send her around as a sort of ambassador, but that would turn the show into a show about politics. That would appeal to a lot of the older fans, but not the original target demographic.

So, we now have a show that can't really progress any farther without going into borderline insanity. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This is not to say that I hate the show; far from it. I enjoy this show very much.

But.......

Goddammit Hasbro.

Apparently all one needs to become a princess is to have be a winged unicorn. I dont like it.

Honestly, I think that it would be a kindness if she left the show. The loyal fanbase has had many laughs and giggles along the way. The first two seasons were very generous, showing many great depictions of actual plotlines, but the third season seemed somewhat... lacking. The previous episodes displayed obvious morales. The newest merely displayed problems that needed to be solved. For example:

Just for Sidekicks; Season 3 - Spike is still somewhat greedy but is working on it

Spike at your Service; Season 3 - Spike is still annoying and doesn't get the hint; besides, didn't Twilight save EVERYONE MULTIPLE TIMES OVER NOW!?

As for season 4, I can't really say. From what I know, season 4 is going to continue off some sort of saga that began in season 3. I just hope that they take their time in developing the story and characters especially for the season premiere and season finale. Right off the bat, I'm going to say that it wasn't particularly good. But I will say that it was nowhere near as bad as we all thought it was going to be. The story was at least somewhat developed and it did have many homages to the standard seasons, including, but not limited to:

VINYL FRICKING SCRATCH

I walked (or rather, sat back) somewhat mellowed by the movie. It was not nearly as bad as we all thought it was going to be, but that didn't take much.

Ok bronies, the new season is almost upon us (this Saturday). What's everyone gonna do?

I've been considering giving this show a shot for quite a long time. Is there any way to just be a casual fan of it?

I should probably watch season 3 already. I've been putting it off for ages.

This show changed my life... My eyes can't stop crying whenever I think about it.

I have to say, the season 4 premiere looked amazing. I especially loved the flashback scenes and I want to see what they're gonna do with the whole keys thing.

When I first started watching this series I had low expectations. It took me in for a ride though! Friendship is a very common theme and I do like it; which is the only reason I considered to watch it at first. This is one of the best shows about friendship I have ever seen, if you like the theme of friendship then you will like it too.
Anyway I am supper exited for season 5!
