For people who are looking for some good animes of a particular genre, please make a detailed post here of what you're looking for so we can help you out! Same goes for if you're looking for an anime similar to a show that you have recently watched.

Thanks a lot for doing this, Mael. This should solve the problem of everyone asking for recommendations, despite an entire board of anime to choose from. Even before this, it was kind of hard to find many really detailed explanations of several anime, even if you searched the archives.

Hopefully people will post on this rather than making their own threads from now on.

For Example I recommend Baki the grappler. Its got Fighting action from just one guy...baki. who is on a quest for defeat from his father yujiro, A Monster. theres 2 seasons so check it out. also there's Slam Dunk. a Basketball Anime check that out as well. i do have to note theres 85 to 100 in all for episodes so keep watching where this goes.

Baki the Grappler was pretty awesome, but the second season disappointed me... However watching that did lead me to watch Hajime no Ippo, a boxing anime which also happens to be in my top five favorite anime of all time. Seriously, never before have I witnessed character development and fighting mesh so well together.

Also for people who are really into laugh out loud funny shows, I recommend, Seitokai Yakuindomo, a story about a guy who goes to a high school that had just been converted from an all girls school to a co-ed, and is immediately inducted into the student council. Also Golden Boy, a story about Kintaro Oe, a freeter who travels around Japan on his bicycle, taking miscellaneous jobs, and making every woman fall for him. Both of those are beyond words, amazingly hilarious.

Ya know what? I might as well recommend Great Teacher Onizuka while I'm at it.. It's arguably my favorite anime. The story revolves around Onizuka Eikichi, a former delinquent/gang leader, who decides he wants to take up teaching, however the class he is put in charge of is full of kids who can psychologically destroy all of their teachers. Onizuka begins to help the students, and solve various problems, winning over the class one at a time. Not without hardship though...
I've never marathoned an anime longer than 20-25 episodes, but I watched all 40+ episodes of this in one day. And i don't regret a single moment.

You know what, maybe I could help here, as sub-standard as it would be.

Ben-to in a nutshell is a group of high-school students fighting an a psudo-battle to the death for cut-price food. The story concerns itself mainly on the actions that occur around You Satou (one of the many resident poorfags) who accidentally learns of the existence of these battles when on the first day of school he gets the crap beaten out of him with no warning whatsoever. The next day when he gets out of the hospital he runs into Hana Oshiroi who has an abnormal obsession with him, the class rep Umi Shiraume (resident raging lesbian) who loves beating the everlasting shit out of him, and Sen Yarizui - the girl who beat the shit out of him in the first place. Definitely better then it sounds.

The iDOLM@STER in a nutshell is watching cute girls doing cute things. If you don't like fanservice and a plot that isn't really much of a plot (become idols, become popular, achieve other ambitions) then don't watch this. However, it is surprisingly beyond the realms of a fanservice show as it places much more emphasis upon the interaction between characters and their development rather then the fanservice, meaning it's a lot less shallow then it could have been (early beach episode aside). I honestly watch this to see what the characters do rather than the fanservice and fanwank that comes with an anime made of a game that's extremely popular in Japan.

I'd like to be the first to actually use this thread to ask for help too.

Okay, so I'm looking for a martial arts anime. Preferably, a seinen. I've seen Hajime no Ippo, Baki the Grappler, Tenjou Tenge, and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi.

So, I'm looking for something in similar to those. Where the main character develops and gets significantly stronger as the anime goes on. I've seen a lot of other not so mainstream, things, but I'd rather not list all of them... Also, I'm not looking for shows like Naruto, One Piece, or Bleach.

Help me out if ya can!! :)

Two girls met on a long train journey to Tokyo. Both just happen to be 20 years old. Both also just happen to be called Nana. A string of coincidences bring these two very different girls together.

This is shoujo series, so don't expect much action in it, but I found the storyline captivating and the characters completely lovable. If you're not a fan of love triangles and drama, this isn't for you. But if you are looking for an anime with an awesome soundtrack and slightly tragic characters, this is a good catch.

This website has dl links, but it's missing the last four episodes.

For people who are looking for a good horror/mystery anime, I recommend Shiki. So, do you like vampires? I don't mean the 'new age' vampires, that sparkle in the sunlight and are fiercely romantic. I mean, Classic Vampires, where they have no reflection, they NEED to feast on human blood, and they cannot enter a house unless they have been invited. Ah...good times... Well, if i described your interests then give Shiki a whirl, you'll enjoy it.

The reason I'm looking for a martial arts anime is because i just finished reading the manga Holyland, and it got me all pumped about martial arts again... So yeah lol..

Actually, Elle may be presented as the main character, but the anime is more about Gau Ban, her adopted younger brother. This series takes place is a distant world composed of fighting kingdoms. Fighting styles here are elaborate and use a form of casting similar to magic. Shadow Skill is the style used by Elle and Gau Ban, one developed by female slaves in the past whose arms were often bound. The story follows the pair as they travel and cause trouble for anyone they meet, mostly due to Elle's childish and selfish nature. There is a strange form of romance between Elle and Gau Ban as well as demented and twisted history with Gau Ban and how he came under Elles's tutelage. In the end, the story reveals itself as Gau Ban's struggle to keep up with his adopted sister and mentor in hopes of someday becoming a Sevaar like her someday. His path is littered with confusing teenage emotions, aimless rage, needless crying and a sadistic anti-hero hailed as a hero called Scarface sending Gau Ban down a path or blood.

Oh that sounds pretty cool, I have it downloading right now lol. But yeah, female leads, that's why I couldn't get into Claymore, Burst Angel, and Ikkitousen.. But hey, I'll give it a shot.

There are so many ways to efficiently and conveniently find new anime. Anyone who has to rely on this is just either lazy, stupid, or has nothing better to do.

Fine, as no-one else is, I'll give a few in-a-nutshell recommendations. Note that this is a summary at its most basic, so keep in mind that the shows will often be much better then I make them sound.

Death Note: Student finds a magical notebook that lets him kill people and a ghost with an addiction for apples, goes insane, and tries to become god. An adult child with a sweet tooth sets out to stop him. Neither knows who the other is. English dub is hilarious, watch it for the comedy.

Code Geass Exiled royalty chessmaster gains a magical superpower that lets him order people to do stuff. He embarks on an epic quest to get revenge on his father, joined by a mysterious waifu who doesn't stay dead and a ragtag bunch of Japanese terrorists. Shunned son of the dead prime-minister of Japan joins the invader's (now the current government's) army, fights terrorists, becomes the biggest thorn in the exile's side. Has massive fight scenes containing plot exposition. And then school happens. Oh, and mecha. Can't forget the mecha.

Clannad - Guy with busted shoulder who is known for being a delinquent decides one day to talk to a sad girl who is sitting alone. Shortly afterwards this conversation, he decides to help her restart the drama club. He quickly builds a harem.

Fate/Stay Night - Rehash of the Fate route of the VN with elements of the other two routes thrown in smooshed into 24 episodes. Either watch it to understand Fate/Zero or for the fight scenes. Or the LOLdragon.

Fate/Zero - Prologue to Fate/Stay Night. As everyone is older and more experienced, the fight scenes are even more high paced and awesome. You'll either understand all the lingo being thrown around and enjoy it fully, or you'll just watch it for the awesome fight scenes.

School Days - Has a Nice Boat

Highschool of the Dead - Guns and Tits - The Anime

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha - Magical loli collects gems and befriends people via superior firepower

To Aru Majutsu no Index - Guy with absolutely terrible luck just happens to have the ability to nullify abilities, whilst being in a city full of ability users. Loli in a church robe appears infront of his apartment. Hijinks occur, he solves her problem, then loses his memory. Yes, all of it. He promptly wakes up in hospital and decides to pretend that he still remembers everything. He fools everyone. Oh, and he builds a harem.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Magical girls try to save the world. It doesn't go well.

Angel Beats - Bottom line amazing anime.
Kino's Journey - Very mellow tone, lots of story.
Dance in the Vampire Bund - Renewed my faith in vampires.
Cowboy Bebop - Lets face it, if you watch anime you have to watch this.
Abenobashi: Magical Shopping Arcade - The weirdest anime I have ever seen. But still very funny.

You know what, let's try this again. My purpose here is less to provide anything that is definitively good, but more to provide examples people may get curious over and hence watch to possibly expand their opinions or tastes. Of course, if you believe that they're shit after you watch them that's your opinion.

Persona 4 - Guy from the city gets shunted to a small country town because his parents went to work overseas somewhere, moves in with his oppressive uncle and his attention-starved daughter. Goes to school, quickly becomes friends with the school's loser and the martial arts chick, hears a rumour about a mystical TV channel that only appears under certain circumstances. When he tests this, his TV tries to eat him. Friends don't believe him, so he drags them down to the local department store and gets a larger TV to eat him (and his friends accidentally). Hijinks ensure. Oh, and he will probably build a harem.

[C]: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control - People sign a contract, receive money that they would make in the future. They can do what they wish with the money, but as this is messing with their future if they lose said money they won't earn any money in the future. Some people who have these contracts then hold Pokemon battles where the attacks cost money, and obviously the winner takes the loser's money. Oh, and the personification of these contracts just happen to be demonic lolis.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Paranoia - The Anime. Guy has moved to a small country town with his family, by the time the anime starts he's already made a quasi-harem (considering all the other males seem to be creepy old men and severely underage children, this is no surprise). Every year a festival is held, every year one person is murdered and another dissapears. Horrible things happen to whoever is the protagonist. Unlike Thermonuclear War however, the winning move is not to refuse to play. Oh, and everyone is as crazy as you think they are - have fun with that.

Bakemonogatari - An ex-vampire goes around attempting to solve other people's paranormal problems. He quickly builds a harem.

Baka to Test to Shōkanjū - Schooling system happens to provide you with better crap depending on your marks, with the best students getting state of the art equipment and a snack bar in class, whilst the worst gets wobbly wooden tables, broken cushions, and a whole lot of nobody-gives-a-fuck. Somehow the entire school is set up with electronics that produce chibis that fight for their student master that vary in strength depending on the marks of the student. Different classes fight each other with said chibis to steal each other's facilities. Protagonist is the biggest idiot in the school, and his only claim to fame is that his chibi can interact with physical objects. He quickly builds a hare- wait, does 2 girls and 1 Hideyoshi count as a harem?

Ore No Imouto - Tsundere - because Bipolar can be meditated. Older brother suddenly starts giving a shit about his younger sister when he finds an anime case containing a hard-core porn game inside the doorway of the house. Upon returning the case to her, he finds out that she's really into anime and eroges and is a really big siscon. She tries to get him to understand this and as such gives him some of these siscon eroges to play on her laptop and comes to him for "life counseling". Yes, that's right, his sister is getting him to play games about fucking your sister and she's coming to him for "life counseling" (Spoiler: /a/ was pissed when he didn't fuck his sister)

Lucky Star - bunch of different girls with various personality disorders do various whacked out things. Oh, and Konata is 18 by the way. Try to work out the ages of the rest of the cast from there.

Nichijou - bunch of different girls with various personality disorders do various whacked out things. Yes, even more whacked then Lucky Star. Surrealism at its best.

Full Metal Panic - Take a socially retarded mercenary who's been fighting since he was a toddler, tell him to be a certain high-school girl's bodyguard without letting her know what he's doing. Give him access to military hardware. Hijinks ensure. He quickly builds a potential harem, but he wants none of it.

hack/Sign - MMORPGs - The Anime. Seriously now, it's that because almost the entire series is inside the MMORPG. Take a bunch of various people who either mix well with each other or piss each other off and have them look for the existence of a glitch in the game world. Take one of these people, trap him in the game world, give him amnesia and the ability to summon a floating tentacle monster at will that can put people in real-life comas. Now make him have a key link to this glitch the others are hunting. Have fun trying to get amnesia guy to trust that you're trying to help him rather then use him as a tool.

Chaos Head - Dillusions - The Anime. Seriously, everyone is having their own dillusions. Have fun keeping up with what's actually happening.

Steins Gate - Same universe as Chaos Head. Mad Scientist witnesses someone's death, manages to invent time travel and goes back to prevent said death. The fact it went for 24 episodes should tell you that it didn't go as planned.

Demon king daimo- sai akuto a magic student who wishes to be great and lawful and be a great heavenley master has his life turned upside down as fate has decided for him to be demon lord, when he tries to change this he only seems to make it worse...eventually everyone is out to stop him from forfilling the dark prophecy
(really good animu and only 12-14 eps, hilarious at points)

It's an incredibly short story ( only 6 ep long) about two boys who find a cafe where humanoid robots come to life. Through out the story these boys learn what really goes inside these robots heads and explore the taboo society has put on befriending them. The art in this series is what really gets me it's unique and beautiful. The characters are all so lovable too and nobody is over the top. I would recommend this to anybody specially if your looking for a mellow anime to unwind with.

This is another great unwind anime especially for those who are fans of art. The anime takes place at a local High School where 5 girls explore different ways to create art and express themselves. It's mostly a light hearted comedy but you actually do learn some pretty interesting things about art in it. I know there are a lot of animes with cute girls going to High school these day but I really liked the cast in this a lot and how they played off each other

Personally, I would recommend Ranma 1/2 because I like the Martial Arts ecchi. Or maybe Beelzebub for its fighting awesome! Those, in my opinion, are must watch shows.

Has anyone watched Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica? It's short and I'm onlny on episode two but I've heard it gets really good.
Also Star Driver? (not likeley it is unknown) kinda stupid, kinda interesting depends on the episode :)

My recommendations are too numerous to count, soooo I will list off the top ones I know off the top of my head.

My Bride is a Mermaid (Seto no Hayaname): Showed it at my anime club at school. People originally thought that it was gonna suck, and it was one of the best shown in club history.

Katanagatari: Not well know, but AMAZING!!!!! It has gone down as one of my top favorites! And this is from a person with 2 full bookcases and 2 terabytes full of anime on an external hard drive.

Baccano! and Durarara!!: Multi-story show where they eventually converge. Greatness!

and many many more that I sadly cannot remember.

People see the future with their cellphones and suddenly this becomes a battle royale styled murder game with the prize being position of god. -And, there's a pink haired yandere in there, for those who are interested ~_~

Ano Hi Mita Hana No Namae O Bokutachi Wa Mada Shiranai
So sad, this dead girl named Menma can only be seen by Jinta, who was apparently in love with her. She wants to fulfill a last wish of hers that nobody knows of (in the beginning). Their game of hide and seek (in the end) becomes intensely emotional and people start crying (including me)

Well, out of my tiny list of things I've seen.

Tiger and Bunny - basically Japan's take on superheroes. Details the touching love story, um I mean FRIENDSHIP, between the two main leads and various superhero shenanigans. It takes a jab at drama towards the end, but for the most part it aims to just have fun with itself. Really high production values and overall has a pretty western feel to it.

Natsume Yuujinchou - Slice of life with a sprinkling of the supernatural. About a young boy who has been plagued with the ability to see spirits since he was a child, and how he deals with them after acquiring a thing called The Book of Friends from his grandmother. It's sweet, heartwarming and perfect for lifting one's spirits.

Darker than Black - weird things happen in the world, the sky disappears and gets replaced by a fake one, people get supernatural powers and in return loose their humanity. In the forefront you have one such person, called a contractor, whose name is Hei. He works for a crime Syndicate of sorts and mostly handles the dirty work. His team also includes a talking cat, an emotionless girl that can track people through water and...a regular guy. People kill and people get killed. Things get complicated. Soundtrack by Yoko Kanno.

Hey, anyone remember astro boy or speed racer? True classics.

I really like this anime called Hunter X Hunter. It's a little boring at first, but it gets really excited and awesome! It's about this boy named Gon and his friends Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio who are trying to pass the Hunter Exam. Then, Gon and Killua try to find Gon's father in a special video game called Greed Island~~ I also like Hetalia, but I don't watch it that often~~

I recommend Cowboy bebop sensational story XD

If no one has seen Mushi-Shi yet I can recommend that without any reservations. It has to be one of the most original and engaging series I've ever watched.

Cowboy Bebop - one of the most famous anime of the 90s, but the fact that it's a bit older in no way means it's not relevant anymore. In fact there are few anime ever made that can match its level of quality. Cowboy Bebop is about the lives of the crew of the Bebop, mostly bounty hunters by profession. First you have the badass Spike and his ex-cop partner Jet struggling to get some cash to make it through the day, but as time goes by a bunch of other people join the crew, the very sassy Faye, the very smart dog Ein and the very whacky computer wizz Ed. It's got style, humor, action, the soundtrack of god. Why isn't everyone watching it right now?

Samurai Champloo - Edo period Japan with a twist. You have Mugen, the wild warrior, uncouth and womanizing, Jin, the ronin, who carries himself as a conventionally stoic samurai and Fuu the young tea house waitress that saves their life brings them together as they set out to search of her mysterious samurai 'who smells of sunflowers'. It's got the same fusion style of Cowboy Bebop, blending a historical setting with hip-hop and urban culture (you'd think it wouldn't work but it does). One of the best samurai anime out there, has enough action, comedy and drama to be fit anybody's taste.

FullMetal Alchemist/ FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Pretty much about the same. Whichever one you want to watch is just fine, but one has the anime line, one follows magna. This story is about a boy, Edward Elric, and his brother Alphonse Elric, who make a horrible mistake trying to bring their mother back from the dead. Now, they must make a quest to get their original bodies back. Al, is bound to a metal suit using a blood seal, and Ed has a metal arm and leg. They meet many people along the way, as well as find out the truth that the government didn't want people knowing.
My opion: This show has a lot of funny moments I could say, depending again on which one you watch, but FMA/FMABH are in the end, one story that can have yoy crying and laughing within the same episode. It hold onto you, and you feel like your apart of the series. Vic Mignongna feels empowered by this series. No.6- The story of a utopian society and what really goes behind making it a utopia. I dont really want to give anything away so I wont go into the plot to much. But the main character are Shion a honor student in the city of No.6 who escapes to the ghettos, and Nezumi a man who uses rats to deliver messages and wants to destroy No.6. It's a great anime with really solid character and the plot moves really well because it's only 12 episodes It's worth watching!!!!

The world only god knows- A very cute series about a boy calls himself the god of conquest because of his amazing ability to conquer any otome game given to him. However a demon named Elli find out his ability and enrolls him as her partner in catching lose souls which puts him in the contract with the devil that if he disobays he loses his head. The way to catch lose souls is to make girls fall in love with you so he uses his mad otome gaming techniques to get girls to really fall for him. It's basicaly a parody of otome games in general and the typical girl characters they have. Its pretty cute series and will make you laugh a lot at just how big of a genius derp the main character is.

It's really a matter of interpretation I wouldn't say it's strong it's about the same level as black butler implied but not cannon. There are two parts where fans ( like myself) could read into implied rommance, however it could also have been more of poetic symbol not really having to do anything with actual romance but more dating back to older times its really up to fan interpretation. it's mild at best hinted but not canon. ( plus there is a female relationship thing in the show too so it's really who you prefer to see the main character with)

The yaoi undertones are pretty blatant, imo. Like the scene where they dance in the bedroom and then it goes into a montage of their shadows dancing together in various scenes and location for about 5 minutes or so, then it ends with Shion falling back into a chair covered in sweat saying, "That was hard," and Nezumi blushes. Or the countless times they stare deeply into each others eyes. Or when they act like they are married and get upset about not sharing their feelings. Or the rainbow between them in the intro.

Aside from the obvious Durarara plug (which I would assume most people on this board have already watched), I would have to say Lucky star, Working, School Days, are all fairly good (the latter especially if you can put up with some fairly twisted drama).

I'd recommend Yu Yu Hakusho, It may be kinda old, but its definitely one of the best anime I've ever seen.
If you're looking for more of a comedy oriented shounen action series with demons in it, you could always watch Soul Eater, or Beelzebub...
Lets see... For interesting vampire-like shows you could watch Shiki, or Bakemonogatari... Those are both insanely good.
Since you like mainstream, you should look up Fairy Tail, the main character is essentially a dragon...
And another great mainstream demon anime is Nurarihyon No Mago, the second season of that is currently airing, and its fucking badass.

I also recommend Trigun as a shoot 'em up. I don't think it got an anime, but if you're cool with manga, there's Gun Blaze West, by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Sadly, it got canceled after three volumes, though.

Trigun: for those that followed the manga, the anime unfortunatly doesnt quite match it, but it is probably in my top 10 anime favorites. Known for its Space Western theme, Trigun is about a man named "Vash the Stampede" and the two Insurance employees who follow him around in order to minimize the damages inevitably caused by his appearance. Most of the damage attributed to Vash is actually caused by bounty hunters in pursuit of the "60,000,000,000$$" (sixty billion "double dollars") bounty on Vash's head for the destruction of the city of July. However, he cannot remember the incident clearly due to his amnesia. Throughout his travels, Vash tries to save lives using non-lethal force. He is occasionally joined by a priest, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who, like Vash, is a superb gunfighter with a mysterious past.

As the series progresses, we learn more about Vash's mysterious history and the history of human civilization on the planet Gunsmoke. The series often employs comic relief and is mostly light-hearted although its tone shifts toward darker and more dramatic situations as the series draws to a conclusion. The story line also involves moral conflict pertaining to the morality of killing other living things

Actually a really good anime to watch is "The World God Only Knows."

It's about a gamer, Katsuagi Keima, who has no interest in reality and calls himself 'The God of Conquest,' because he can easily conquer any dating sim. One day he receives a challenge email asking if he could conquer any girl. Of course he accepts the challenge, not knowing that it sends a demon from Hell, Elsie, to help him capture 'loose souls' by making girls fall in love with him. Unfortunately, if he doesn't capture the loose souls, both his and Elsie's heads will be cut off. two seasons, free as an app for ipod/iphone(in japanese dub, eng sub) i recommend this anime because it's funny and an eye opener about the 'different types' of girls.

Hmm...I have a lot I could recommend, but the first that comes to mind is FLCL(aka: Fooly Cooly/Furi Kuri). Its incredibly random, perverted, makes very little sense...but its a masterpiece of Gainax.

I'm not as well-versed in anime titles, to be honest, to give recommendations for others. My default recommendation will always be Katanagatari, but to be honest it isn't as actiony as you probably want. It's a fantastic series, and leaves you wanting to watch the next episode every single time, and does have its awesome action moments, but it isn't actually its central quality.

Shakugan no Shana - Badass chick with eternal youth and a flaming katana works with a guy who's been legally dead for who-knows-how-long and romance ensues in the process. Kinda surprised it hasn't come up in this thread before now.

Nisemonogatari- Sequel to Bakemonogatari, a sexy...sexy sequel. This series is based around the Araragi Sisters, or the Fire Sisters of Tsuga no Ki 2nd Junior High. Currently airing, fucking awesome.

Rinne no Lagrange- Like a weird fusion of Eureka 7, Star Driver, and Mahou Shoujo Madoka... So here's the gist of it... Girl helps people, girl meets other girl, other girl makes girl pilot robot, girl is good at piloting robot, bad guys appear, bad guys are cool, mech fight ensues, mech fight is cool, girl wins. YAY!~ Currently airing, currently awesome.

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou- The first episode of this show left me cracking up in the middle of the night, cackling in the darkness like a half remembered nightmare. Comedy style is gag humor, so it was similar to Nichijou and Gintama, and man, it certainly succeeded in making my night. Currently airing, currently awesome.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is a good one. Its about a girl who takes her little brother to see a robot convention in Tokyo, but on their way back home, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 hits Tokyo. The two meet another woman who offers to travel with them back to their home while she also wants to get home to make sure that her mother and daughter are alright. This is a really touching anime and to be honest, I almost cried at some parts. No one has special powers, swords, fighting abilities of any kind, or having the power to lift heavy objects with one hand and chuck it half way across the universe.. haha XD. Its just normal everyday people trying to recover from a massive earthquake, but I thought it was really good even if it only is 11 episodes long. I suggest checking it out. :) But if you are more into fighting/magic anime, I would suggest Soul Eater, DRRR, and Soul Eater :)

If you haven't watched Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, do it. It's about a world where humans have been living underground as long as they can remember, and two guys break out to the surface.. If you've heard the phrase "ROW! ROW! FIGHT THE POWER!", this is what it comes from. I HIGHLY suggest watching this. Literally my favorite anime to date.

I NEED A SWORD FIGHTING ANIME. I'v seen samurai champloo, afro samurai,samurai x, and a fue others

No. 6 is an 11 episode anime, absolutely stunning and out-of-this-world. If you watch it all straight through in one day, it has a movie-like affect, due to the fast-moving plot and, of course, the clear, smooth animation makes it look like a film.

The plot is centered around the world in the future, where there was some form of war and there were multiple districts that had to be created, one of which called No. 6, which is portrayed to be a utopia to its citizens. In all reality, the city is a parasite city, sucking in everyone it can and using them to its advantage, displaying a fake world to everyone who enters. A boy named Sion disobeys No. 6 one night by helping an outsider, and ever since then his life changed into a survival action story, trying to avoid the No. 6 officials and save is friend, who was taken away by the No. 6 government.

It's based off of 7 novels and a manga adaption was made to it. I must warn you there is some male x male hints, I'd rank it shounen-ai, seeing there are scenes which are romantic, but if you can get past that, it's worth the watch. To someone who enjoys shounen-ai like myself, it's gotta be the best shounen-ai ever.
It's really cool and has a sci-fi setting; the technology is really futuristic, but not ridiculously so. The cars really haven't changed. xD
Anyways, it's fantastic and short, a must-watch if you ask me.

Well, no one's suggested Wakfu yet, so here goes.

Wakfu is a French cartoon with heavy anime influences produced by Ankama. It revolves around a young orphaned boy named Yugo, who sets off on a journey to discover who he really is after his powers awaken during an attack on his village.

He is joined on his journey by a knight named Tristinpin Percedal, the Princess Amalia Sheran Sharm, her bodyguard and friend Evangelyne, and his adopted father's friend, Ruel Stroud.

Among their travels, they are challenged by the villain, Nox, who wishes to absorb all the wakfu (magic/energy) in the world for his own nefarious purposes.

This is a really fun show. almost better than code lyoko

Alright, I need some help finding a different anime.

I'm looking for animes in the science fiction/superatural genres that are serious and suspenseful. I prefer things with good animation and an interesting art style, but if it's got a decent story, that's good enough for me. Basically, I'm looking for something cenered around psychics or people with powers. Now, by saying that, chances are I'm going to get reccomendations of every anime on Earth. No, lemme be more specific.

I'll give you an example of an anime similar to what I'm looking for, whose name I don't remember. It was centered around brothers with supernatural powers. But it wasn't because they were "chosen ones", it was because they could use an extremely high percentage of their brain, and it came naturally. They spend the majority of the anime trying to run away from a military/science-based organization that was trying to harness their powers and perform tests on them. The anime goes into a lot of depth about how it's possible for them to have the powers they do. They can't control them well. They often hurt their family members accidentally when they were children, and that's when they were taken away.

I also liked [c] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control and Serial Experiments: Lain, both of which had rather interesting art and a weird story. There's a thread for [c] somewhere on here, actually ;O Serial Experiments Lain may also relate to what I'm looking for. I'm not even going to try to explain Lain =o= If you've watched it, you understand what I mean in comparison to the other animes here.

tl;dr - something that's supernatural, but has a good plot twist, and is a bit different from your average anime.

Regarding psychic-type animes, I liked Ghost Hunt and Psychic Detective Yakumo, but I just can't find other animes like them. I would prefer something similar, but maybe with a slightly deeper plot than those two.

If anyone could help me out, I would be grateful. I've been craving animes like these for a while. I just haven't had any luck finding them on my own.

And I'm gonna recommend The Tatami Galaxy since I see nobody has done that yet. The Tatami Galaxy is about a university student stuck is a kind of time loop. Each episode has him choosing a path he hopes will lead him to experience a 'rose-colored campus life' and each episode he returns to where he started at the end, unaware of the loop.

Recommended for those who can cope with reading subtitles real fast, you have been warned. And for those with a love for quirky art styles.

try Another pretty good horror series

I strongly recommend Ergo Proxy. Set in the dark future, cyborgs called Autoreivs are being infected by the Cogito Virus. There is the existence of the mysterious Proxies. And all the while, an investigator working under the Intelligence Bureau, the stunningly beautiful Re-l Mayer, is plunged right into the heart of the mystery.
The plot is deep and complex, not for the casual viewer. Often episodes need to be rewatched in order to fully absorb everything. But if you are patient, and are a fan of cyberpunk and the noir genre, Ergo Proxy is a masterpiece. It's certainly and underrated series that deserves more attention.

Nabari No Ou- Kinda like Naruto but modernized and a bit more mature
Ghost Hunt- Most episodes base off the most haunted places in the world or stories about hauntings
Ghost Stories- Very funny anime and it tends to make fun of horror movies in the dub
Tactics- Has a lot to do with Japanese folklore and their demons, a very interesting show
Night Raid 1931- I don't really know how to explain this one well, but it reminds me of Baccano! although it has nothing to do with the mafia or immortals
Ouran High School Host Club- A very funny series about a poor girl getting involved with a boys host club in a rich private school
Old and new FMA series- Both are good, although Brotherhood goes along the manga better and the originals is almost an alternate universe telling
Inuyasha- One of the first actual anime I watched, I still love it to this day and it is an interesting story really
Durarara- Just because
Baccano!- Its funny, full of blood and action, and it just ranks in my top 10
Angel Beats- Great anime that actually has a strong life lesson, it honestly moved me and inspired me a lot

Black Butler- Another really good storyline.
Hetalia- Pretty funny. It's taught me everything I know about history; I find it unbearably boring otherwise.
Deathnote- A mental workout, but totally worth the watch!
Soul Eater: Love the art style, and the characters are interesting.
I'm in the process of watching more, but these are my absolute favorites.

Great teacher Onizuka: for anyone who likes high school slice of life style i only just started watching it but it is amazing so far

DuRaRaRa!! This series is deep as hell. It's one of those stories that REALLY makes you think without being too confusing or boring.

Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san ..!

Comet is the gentle but disinterested princess of a planet in a galaxy far from Earth. One day, when the only prince in the galaxy is expected to choose a bride, he disappears shortly after bumping into her. Despite having no interested in wedding him, she is sent with her guardian pet to go retrieve him, who they presume has fled to Earth. Another princess is also set, although the other princess is far more interested in her love than she. Comet's job is to find him, win his love, and become stronger during her time on Earth. She wields a sceptor in the form of a baton. Using that, she can transform and borrow magic from the neighboring stars to do pretty mch whatever.

Shortly after landing on Earth, she meets twin children and ends up staying with their family. The whole series is pretty much their misadventures, as well as a story of growing up and learning to choose your own path. The art is very childish despite the sometimes serious (and at times, romantic) story. It's definitely more for younger girls, but I personally enjoy watching it despite my age.

Princess Tutu is another amazing anime series that I have rewatched countless times, and you really need to look past its name and art to grasp the story.

Ahiru (literally, "Duck," as she is called in the dub) is a young duck who turns into a stupid, clumsy girl who turns into an elegant ballerina called Princess Tutu, all thanks to a dead writer called Drosselmeyer, who wrote himself into a story so he could live for eternity writing more stories. Ahiru is determined to protect Mute (also spelt Mythos), a prince who came to life from one of Drosselmeyer's stories, after seeing him dance in the pond she swum in as a duck. He shattered his heart in the story and now has no emotions, always hiding behind his knight, Fakir (also spelt Fakia). Ahiru turns into Princess Tutu and dances with the souls of his "heart pieces" which each hold another emotion, eventually returning them to Mute. She automatically turns back into a duck if she quacks, which is a habit of hers, but she can turn back into a girl if she goes in water. Of course, she turns back into a naked girl, which calls for a lot of awkward situations, especially later in the series.

The story of the original Princess Tutu went that the princess always had to hide her feelings and protect the prince from the shadows of her heart, for the deal was, she was only allowed those powers if she did so. If she ever told the prince of her feelings, she would discintigrate and dissappear.

All of this takes place at a ballet school. It used to be a normal school, but after Drosselmeyer's cursed story came down upon the town, many students, staff, and townsfolk (as well as travellers who were only in town for a day or two) turned into talking animals. Not all, but many.

I know. It's hard to explain. You really just have to watch it for yourself. It's not that long of an anime, but it's long enough to satisfy. The ending may or may not make you want to punch something; at least it gets your blood boiling lol Anyway, yeah. I highly reccomend Princess Tutu. Despite its childish start, a lot of the topics and situations make it for slightly older viewers rather than just young kids. This anime tends to be enjoyed by both girls and boys, but boys are generally turned off at first.

Sorry, I can't type today lol There's a lot of romance later in the series, and there are a few unexpected plot twists. All in all, it's a pretty good series, and I definitely reccomend it.

Japan engineered an armed powered exoskeleton "Infinite Stratos" (IS) and it became the mainstream of weapons. Since only women can operate IS, women dominate the society over men. Orimura Ichika is a 15 year old boy and accidentally touches an IS placed in the IS pilot training school. He is found to be the only man who can operate IS and forced to enter the training school. Ichika's busy school life surrounded by girls has begun.

Gintama is about a silver haired samurai named Gintoki who goes around doing odd jobs and such, while causing chaos. If I had to give Gintama a description, it would be a cross between Sket Dance and Lucky Star. It Parodies other animes practically every other episode and maintains doing ABSOLUTELY nothing the whole entire time. It's hilarious.

Code Geass! This anime is super awesome! Many people say that it copied Death Note, but while they DO have very similar plots, they're very different too. Code Geass teaches a lesson too (I'll leave it up to you to find what it is).
Also, the fight scenes are epic! Music is really good too. And the characters are awesome! <3 Lelouch.

Chaos;Head is my recommendation right now. I just saw the whole dub in one day and it was amazing. I haven't heard the original version's voices, but the work FUNimation did with this show was really exceptional. It's pretty awesome over all. I wish I could describe the series, but I can't find the words to do so.

Moyashimon. It's about a guy who can see microbes and ends up attending an agricultural university. Hijinks ensure, season 2 will be out sometime this month. It's a bit obscure though, but you get to learn about germs. Season 2's OP will be performed my ClariS, by the way. Manga is discontinued for now, there is a live action drama.

Futatsu no Spica. Short and light slice-of-life anime about 5 students who want to become astronauts. Better than it sounds, the manga is better. I think. There is a drama for this one too.

Well Fullmetal alchemist :Brotherhood is a great anime.Alot of cusing and stuff but overall it is a good anime. Roy mustang and the Elric Brother are my favs.

Deadman Wonderland. It involves gore, cussing (lots in the episode Hummingbird!), mystery, and some side romance between the main character and the mysterious femme fatale Shiro

However, the disc that was stolen has a terrible secret that's unknown to Rock, which causes massive confusion and chaos for both him and his kidnappers.

Tokko saddened me. It had this mildly interesting story, really neat concept... but it never got fully explored or explained, and the ending was completely rushed and shitacular with a cliffhanger for a sequel that never happened.

Nura Rikuo is 1/4 demon and 3/4 yōkai and he's the grandson of Nurarihyon, the Supreme Commander of Nura Clan. Despite his grandfather's wish to succeed him as master of a yōkai yakuza clan, he tries to escape his fate of acting like a yōkai by doing good deeds. He eventually comes to terms with his yōkai blood and decides to take up the position of Young head of the Nura House. Multiple factions aim to stop him or overtake his position, and he must gather friends and allies, a new Hyakki Yakō under his banner of "Fear".

NURARIHYON NO MAGO SENNEN MAKYOU (Season 2)
Having only recently resolved the hostilities between the Nura Clan and the Shikoku Yokai, Rikuo finds no rest as an ancient enemy of the Nura Clan, Haguromo-Gitsune, resurfaces. After 400 years of inactivity, Haguromo-Gitsune suddenly sweeps through Kyoto with overwhelming power. Rikuo has to fight Haguromo-Gitsune who killed his father, Nura Rihan, and prevent Haguromo-Gitsune to give birth to her children,Nue.

I've just finished watching this anime and I'm sure there will be season 3 where Rikuo have to fight Nue :)

Guize. I'm looking for a fantasy anime, but the fantasy suggestions in this thread are lacking :/ I'm really in the mood for an anime that takes place in an entirely different world. (NOT manga - anime.) I would list examples, but I have none at the top of my head right now. I'm basically looking for an anime that has magic (and possibly fighting), but one that isn't magical girl.

When it comes to fantasy, I prefer it to be based on fighting or story more than romance, so I'm not interested in harem-based fantasy animes.

Pretty much a virtual reality mmo (vrmmo) called Sword Art Online traps it's players within the game world of Aincrad, and suddenly character death equals player death. The only way out is to make it through the 100 floors of Aincrad and beat the game.

The detail to animation, characters, plot, and everything else is superb and I really recommend it!

You must watch it at least!! After that you should start the manga too! This is my favourite one, and belive me, it's good, everything is good in this anime :D 103 episodes. The only thing what i didn't like, that this anime has an ending, i don't want it to end!! But there is the manga too, which is ongoing, so at least i can read it.

Okay, the first 20 episodes is about comedy and it's sometimes really boring (but only at the beginning!) Okay, look i survived those 20 episodes, you can survive them too. I wnated to stop watching it first, but then a lot of people said that i should watch it, i just need to survive the first 20 episodes, because after that it becomes really exciting. They were right. This is ony of my favourite mangas and animes, i love both!

Really love this one too, the anime and the manga is still ongoing and it's perfect for me :D Lot of episodes and a looot of chapters. Weekly release manga chapter and anime episode.

Basically it's about 18 people getting trapped in an island where their family leader uses them as human sacrifices to revive his witch mistress... Who then creates a time loop and tries to coerce the protagonist into believing in witches so that she can be real.
Really good because of the mystery bits, and also quite gory (hate the censoring...), but quite fun when it's not making you shit bricks(glares at Maria), also has some characters that you just want to see die... and they do. Multiple times.
Bonus points for the whole BEATORIIIIIIIIIIICHE! thing.

I would also reccomend Nana, which is a more realistic anime that was generally made for older viewers. It basically follows the stories of 1. a desperate college girl who chases after older guys but can't keep a relationship and 2. the singer of a less-known band who is struggling with letting go of her last relationship. They share the same name as well as the reason they're moving, but they're otherwise completely opposite. By some turn of fate, they end up being roommates and close friends. The rest of the series follows their struggles and accomplishments through the next few years of their lives.

Both of these animes have even better mangas, and you can find them both dubbed online. Nana is the anime that I mostly reccomend.

I'm still looking for stereotypical fantasy reccomendations. I like the stories of Bastard!! and Record of Lodoss War, but I don't like their art styles. I'm looking for something with modern art and that sort of story. I liked Escaflowne, but I'm really not a big fan of mechas. Escaflowne was a rare anime that actually did mechas tastefully.

I'm really looking for something that's full fantasy. As in, there's no modern world in it. MAR, Escaflowne, and Munto TV were probably the only animes I really enjoyed where it started out in the modern world and shifted to a fantasy one.

When I say stereotypical fantasy, I mean faeries, elfs, witches, et cetera. Animes that have their own world, sort of like Studio Ghibli's movies.

There's also another anime that I've already watched but forgot the name of. It would be nice if someone could help me figure out the name. I'm not positive about the story, but I'll try to explain the basics as well as I can. (Hopefully, I'm not getting animes mixed up here /o\)

It started out with a seemingly normal boy in a slightly post-apocalyptic world. He would refuse to go to school and spend part of his time with his mother, who I believe was in the hospital. One day, people with strange powers started trying to kill him. He was saved by his mother, who revealed that both she and he had those special powers. He was sent to another fantasy-type world and got involved in the warring there as he tried to learn to control his powers.

Does anyone know of any good coming-of-age animes? Like something that focuses on a character maturing, developing their philosophies and discovering their purpose in life. The best examples I can think of are Eureka Seven, Gurren Lagann, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Clannad (to some degree). Thanks.

Elfen Lied is a 13 episode long anime in which a new strain of the human race has been discovered. Called Diclonius, these beings are nearly identical to humans except for a small pair of horns and genetic differences. They are able to create vectors, invisible arms that are able to cut through just about anything and can be used to smash or grab objects. Diclonii seem to be predisposed to violence and will often attack any human they are exposed to.

Lucy, a Diclonius, escapes from a government facility that is holding her and washes up on a nearby beach. She loses all her memories and reverts to a childlike state. Khota, a college student, finds her and takes her in, giving her the name Nyu. Government officials come to try to regain control of Lucy while she stays with Khota and his cousin. Lucy seems to trigger repressed memories in Khota, although he refuses to admit it.

Other recommendations:

Angel Beats-Follow the afterlife of Otonashi, a boy who apparently died with regrets. He can't remember how he died, how he lived, or his given name, but everyone who shows up in the afterlife has some regret that keeps them from being reincarnated. Limbo is a normal highschool, mostly populated by "non-player characters" (NPCs)who aren't human but look and act the part. Otonashi joins the Afterlife Battlefront, a group that refuses to take their deaths lightly and chose instead to fight back against the injustice of their lives. Led by Yuri, a fiery girl who started the group, the Afterlife Battlefront's one enemy is Angel, the student-body president who has supernatural powers and wishes for the students to move on.

Canaan, both the title and protagonist, is a middle eastern girl with the unique ability of synesthesia, or connected senses. Canaan sees people in different colours, being able to tell her targets from civilians by what colour she sees them as. She became a mercenary after her village was destroyed and she was adopted by Siam, another mercenary. During the time in which the series takes place Canaan is in Shanghai and meets up with her friend Maria Osawa, a Japanese photographer who is there to cover an anti-terrorist conference. During the conference Maria is targeted by the terrorist group Snake, which is led by Canaan's enemy and rival Alphard. Canaan tries to keep Maria safe while stopping Alphard.

Baccano-A non-linear story line that tells the stories of a large group of immortals, Baccano is amazing. It jumps from 1711 to the 1930s to 2001 and back, making it hard to follow at times. Most of the events of the story follow the mafia families known as the Gandors and the Martillos and a disastrous ride on the transcontinental train the Flying Pussyfoot (if that name doesn't convince you to watch it there's something wrong with you). The Gandors and Martillos are making a killing with the bootlegging business but are having trouble with rich-boy Dallas Genoard. Dallas is little more than a thug is being manipulated by an immortal known as Szilard after stealing from the man. The Flying Pussyfoot has been taken hostage by two gangs, one led by the psychopath Ladd Russo and the other by the followers of Huey Laforet, another immortal.

Anyway, Baccano is a mix of awesome fight scenes, comedy, and an amazing plot. I swear it's not as confusing as it sounds.

Hello everyone :D It's hollyday here, and my plan is to spend 2 weeks watching anime! \o/ So i need your help to find good animes, since i have one or two in my list but it won't stand for two weeks.
So, here is the kind of animes i particularly like: I like weirds animes full of gags without real storyline (exemples: Lucky Star, Nichijou, Ichigo Mashimaro, etc.), but i also love to be dragged into a deep and complex story (exemples: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Durarara!!, Mahou Shoujou Madoka Magika, etc.).
I'm not really fond off pure shonen animes full of "Power of friendship!!", nor Shoujou overfull of romance (though there is some shoujou's i like, School Rumble for instance.).
I also like when story is about magic/mysticism (The Mystical Archives of Dantalian, To Aru Majutsu no Index,etc.).
Well, to be honnest, i'm kinda really oppened about animes, i'm above all curious. So, i'm eagerly waiting for your recomandations! :D
Oh, just one last thing: I don't really like long animes (by long, i mean when it goes over 50 episodes), unless the story really passionate me.

On a friend recommendation, i've started watching Joshiraku. Here is the basic plot from what I know:
Evil genius makes awesome video gaming equipment. Thousands of players buy game and equipment. Evil dude traps all players in game once they are logged in, and doesn't let them log out. Players are, of course, outraged.
One player, username: "Kirito", was a beta tester before the game was released, and he quickly becomes one of the more powerful players, advancing the floors of the game, trying to get to the top and defeat the boss on Floor 100. Defeating the boss on Floor 100 is the only known way the players can escape from the game, Sword Art Online, and return back to their lives in reality. If they fail, and are killed in-gme, their bodies back in the real world die as well. Now you see the main problem.

I recommend Casshern Sins. It's gotta be one of the most philosophical anime I've ever seen

Not sure if these have already been suggested (They probably have), but anyway... Without further ado.

Trigun - Nice mix of comedy, action, western and adventure. The main character's personality is hilarious and all the characters are a unique addition to the anime. I've only watched 5 episodes, so it might change further on, but the first episodes have been a ton of fun.

Baccano - Made by the same people who made Durarara. Very interesting plot, although somewhat confusing at times and hard to keep up with. All the characters are likeable in someway (Although I really dislike Ladd and Lua >_<). The anime has three different story lines that come together at the end which creates an awesome experience for the viewer. And just like Durarara there's no obvious main character.

Death Note - Awesome concept that's pulled off very well and the plot feels very smart. The main character is Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the "Death Note", dropped on Earth by a shinigami (a god of death) named Ryuk. The Death Note grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know, by writing the name in the notebook while picturing their face. The series centers around Light's attempt to create and rule a world "cleansed of evil" as "God" using the notebook, and the efforts of a detective known as L to stop him. (Thanks Wikipedia ^_^)

Fullmetal Alchemist - Great concept and great story. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy. (Thanks wikipedia ^_^)

Angel Beats - (Screw it. I'm going to use Wikipedia again for this one. Still a great anime in my opinion) The story takes place in the afterlife and focuses on Otonashi, a boy who lost his memories of his life after dying. He is enrolled into the afterlife school and meets a girl named Yuri who invites him to join the Afterlife Battlefront—an organization she leads which fights against God. The Battlefront fight against the student council president Angel, a girl with supernatural powers.
The Battlefront members are so awesome and each have their own unique personalities that make you want to keep watching. The only character who doesn't interest me as much is Otanashi, because his personality is too normal. He kind of reminds me of me. That scares me :P

Baccano! - 1930 style mobster story with a twist, great story, great characters and just great in general.

Dead Man Wonderland - Dark, Slightly freaky, good story, entire series is depressing but amazing.

Noein - Great story about possible dimentions, not all gore and what not but has great story line.

Elfin Lied - Full on gore, good story, kind of depressing.

Soul Eater - Awesome & wacky just generally weird, but great.

Avatar: Last airbender - At first I wasent sure, but it got awesome, its got a great story.

Samurai Champloo - Amazing! good story great characters, funny & interesting.

Death Note - Sucks you in and ultimately spits you out, amazing story.

Full Metal Alchermist: Brotherhood - This story is just great. nuff said.

Afro Samurai - Good cut em up series, only 5 episodes but they are five good episodes.

Devil May Cry: The Animated Series - You like the games you'd like the anime.

Durarara! - Amazing. funny, great characters and story.

Naruto & Naruto Shippuden - One of the biggest and most famous animes out, Great but has alot of filler at times.

Remembered that anime I was talking about a while back. Night Head Genesis. Going to rewatch it so I can give a proper reccomendation /o/

Henzemi (or Hensemi) is a fucking awesome anime! I have never seen such a fucked up anime before; and when I say it's fucked up I mean it's sexually disturbing and it even made me shout "oh my god!" in of it's scenes. It's not a hentai what-so-ever (for you sickos thinking that) it's just simply a funny and mouth dropping anime.

Someone probably already said this but Black Rock Shooter the animation is a very good watch. It's a short 8 episode anime and for those of you looking for a darker type anime this is one for you. I have never seen an anime that depicts sadness and fear so well before till I watched this. The story is also kick-ass and the action is an eye-catcher. One more thing is that it's a confusing/ hard to follow type of anime so put your thinking caps on once you start.

For mostly girls, one would probally be Black Butler, or Uta No Prince-Sama. But, some good ones for every gender may include Death Note, possibly InuYasha, Pokemon, Another(Which is about... well, it's creepy.), Ouran Highschool Host club(Which I know, is super mainstream, but come on.), The Scarlet Ammo, maybe Clannad is you like paranormal/romance comadys. I could list more, but I don't feel like it at the moment.

I've recently added this to my list of favorites. It's short, but it's animation is top notch, and I personally enjoy the art quite a bit. Very good voice acting in the original Jap (not sure if there is a dub or not anyway). I've heard the manga is very good, as well.

For a sin committed in his past life, a boy is haunted by evil spirits wishing to seek revenge for what happened. One of these spirits is the young, beautiful Cossette. By looking into the glass she seemed to be trapped into, he could see bits and pieces of her life. He continually drew her. He became obsessed with her. He fell in love with her.

After that, all fucking Hell broke loose. Gore, drama, WTF, emotional shit you never expected... all that awesome aowhgeoawhgoiag nonsense packed into a seriously badass 3-episode OVA. It doesn't take long to watch, guys, so just do it.

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai. Delusional lulz and romance and shit up in there, studio is KyoAni, so expect some nice artwork.

I'll assume you've got Sword Art Online under your belt, even though you mentioned you missed 3 seasons, since it is damn popular, even my entire school's like jizzing over SAO.

I'll assume you also got Jormungand Season 2, because I think you watched Season 1, so yeah.

Dunno if you digged Medaka Box season 1, if you did, I'll assume you're watching/gonna watch Season 2. But a big difference between both seasons is more fighting, shounen action up in there.

And that basically covers this Fall Season's anime. Too lazy to recommend Summer and Spring's. This'll be enough.

Oh, and if anyone likes Chinese historical, sorta drama, but there's fighting because it's a shounen, and someone digged Ichigo's voice actor from Bleach, watch "Kingdom". Ignore the CGI in the first, like 10, or so episodes. Well, you can't really ignore it since it's RIGHT THERE IN YOUR FACE, but shit, some political shounen fighting shit up in there that's like fucking amazing. If you manage to watch the entire thing, up until the latest episode, episode 29, you most likely won't regret it. It's pretty damn awesome. Fucking love it, even with its animation faults.

Right now I'm watching Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and finding it quite enjoyable. I'd also recommend watching Princess Jellyfish, which I just finished watching for the second time.
Also watching: Monster, Zetsuen no Tempest, Requiem from the Darkness, and Mushishi.

Sakanrea is really good, so is Inu X Boku SS and both are pretty short. Of course, there's Hetalia but it's pretty derpy. Bleach is good, really long though. Code Geass is nice and I adored Shiki.

All the anime's listed were pretty good, I liked them a lot. Monster was really good but they use a lot of psychological terms, so if you're not that smart with things like that, I don't think that anime is for you.

FLCL - for obvious reasons such as it is amazing. It's a short 6 episodes but I doubt you haven't seen this.

Great Teacher Onizuka - A teacher making friends with a class full of problem children in his own way. Old but great.

Golden Teacher - Has the same feel as GTO but only 6 episodes as well. A part timer going around shoving the ideals of girls he meets on the job back in their faces, proving them all wrong. Old, but like GTO, gold.

Gurren Lagann - Yeah, like you havn't seen this one before.

Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna - A very sexy take on a very old show. As a 27 year later sequel it tells the story of how the characters met in Lupin the Third, but instead focusing on Mine Fujika as the main protagonist. (Quite a lot of nipple action just as a warning, but who will that stop ;P)

Most of these shows have been mentioned quite a few times, but I think that just goes to show their value. If you haven't watched these then I suggest that you do. You will be enlightened.

1-8 and 10 on this list have serious Alice themes, and most of them are rather gory in some way (minus a few, and the yuri ones aren't that great).

Are You Alice? (manga) Wonderland has been looking for a replacement for the original Alice. The white rabbit drags in those who have been abandoned by their past life and gives them identity; those who resemble Alice are given her name and forced to play her role. Whenever one person dies, their role is given to another who is dragged in, and so on and so forth. Then enters our amnesiatic male protagonist who takes on the identity of Alice by himself, for it is the only name he remembered. Again, he is forced to play her role in a morbid but humorous twist of AoW, which does include quite a few shonen-ai fanservice moments (nothing overboard).

Alice in the Country of Hearts and Pandora Hearts are my other two favorites. Again, the mangas are better with the AoW theme.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn (anime) it's mafia but with special rings and powers. I really like it, and it's just over 100 episodes.

I'm going to bump this up because I've actually hit a wall...
I'm very much in the mood for an action/adventure anime that's similar to Hunter X Hunter, and Magi, stuff along the lines of plenty of action, comic relief, plenty of well thought out character development, this will be tough considering I've probably watched everything that is going to be recommended to me, however I'm willing to gamble and say somebody will surprise me. To Aru Majutsu no Index- it is a story where Magic and Science collide. This anime has a great plot through out the series (mainly because I think LN-based anime have great plots)Good Battle scenes and cool powers. An anime where each side has a story to tell.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - it is a spin-off based from the one I mentioned above. This anime focuses on the story of Misaka Mikoto, one of the heroine in the main series, in her adventures in Academy City. Great battle scenes where you will see the awesome Electric power of Misaka Mikoto or better known as Railgun and teleporting powers of the Judgement member, Shirai Kuroko (not to mention that Shirai Kuroko's voice is very popular for those who had watched this anime)

Fate/Zero - a prequel of Fate/Stay Night. This story revolves around the 4th Holy Grail war. Not only this anime has awesome battle scenes but this anime has powerful battle of Idealism. I said this because the characters in this story are Adults (the youngest one is a college student). If you want an anime with Mature contents then this one has it.

Sket Dance - need of help? don't worry! The Sket-dan is there for you. The three odd-jobbers of the school will willing to accept any request you make. This comedic anime will have you Laughing out loud with it's gags.

What separates this from the threads asking for a list of your favorite anime is that you advertise it, or give a reason for people to watch the show you like. Be more descriptive! If they come to a recommendation thread, they're probably looking for more than just a bunch of names.

Deadman Wonderland.

It's about twelve episodes long (more chapters in the manga) if I don't remember wrong, and it is gory enough to get the anime censored. Still good, though.

It's horror-ish. About a middle-school student who is accused of killing his entire class and sent to a prison/amusement park. Since I am no good at explaining without spoiling...

It's a pretty good anime, I think, worth watching.

Hunter x Hunter 2011 A remake of the 1999 TV series of Hunter x Hunter based on the manga by Togashi Yoshihiro. A Hunter is one who travels the world doing all sorts of dangerous tasks. From capturing criminals to searching deep within uncharted lands for any lost treasures. Gon is a young boy whose father disappeared long ago, being a Hunter. He believes if he could also follow his father's path, he could one day reunite with him. After becoming 12, Gon leaves his home and takes on the task of entering the Hunter exam, notorious for its low success rate and high probability of death to become an official Hunter. He befriends the revenge-driven Kurapika, the doctor-to-be Leorio and the rebellious ex-assassin Killua in the exam, with their friendship prevailing throughout the many trials and threats they come upon taking on the dangerous career of a Hunter.
This series is part of my top 3 anime of all time, hands down one of the best shounen out there, if you're looking for an amazing action adventure anime, look no further, it's right here. The original 1999 series was a masterpiece in and of itself, however the 2011 remake is beautiful. I'd recommend this to anyone, anytime, anywhere.

I reccomend highly Sword Art Online, this is just amazing. Action,drama, even tearjerking at places, romance, and a highly innovative concept, look it up and watch it :D

I don't know about innovative, .//Hack or whatever did it first. And i'm sure there have been shows before that, or even books. Plus I feel like second season killed it.

But while i'm at it I would recommend Katanagatari: All 12 episodes at 48 minutes a piece you can't miss it. It has a strange art, and is a little slow at first, But once it gets going you'll find yourself staying up all night trying to finish it.

I had a story like that but mine had a dark hero in it who instead of freeing them he makes it impossible to leave until he is dead and he has XCALIBR and Edge Of Two Souls somewhat based out of Soulcalibur's Soul Edge. I even did a name for it but the SAO came out.

the first dozen shows to come to mind have been posted. After a quick Ctrl+F I see that 'bounen no Xamdou' is not mentioned as of yet.
this show never aired on TV, but originally was available on the playstation3 via some sort of online this or that, before coming out on blu ray.
good art, great budget. enjoyable story. ok characters, with good character development.

And for Comedy, Cromartie High School, Who cares about the art, budget, story, or characters. It is funny. very funny. to describe it in one word (other than funny) would be 'random'

And if you want a show that makes you think a little, Ghost Hound was nice.

I just finished Shuffle (And put the thread to the top here) and it was great. Really good. It was really funny and a lot of fun to watch. Around the 18th episode it started getting into some really serious themes that played with my emotions like a game of chutes and ladders (up and down).

It takes place maybe in the future a little or just a different universe. Ten years before the series started portals to heaven and hell opened and gods and demons have become intermingled with humans. The gods and demons are pretty much the same as humans except that they have long ears and some magical powers. It follows a boy surrounded by an unusual harem. What makes them unusual is that half of them admit it from the start, they are all close friends, and they don't pretend to hate the main character. It was very good.

Toshokan Sensou AKA Library Wars!!! It's amazing, not just because the quality of the animation is really good, but the storyline and characters. It deals with the important topic of censorship, but it's not heavyhanded like Fahrenheit 451 is. Very easy to follow, extremely funny and epic.

WATCH ALL THE ANIME!!!! but watch Another first... that show was just epic...

Kino's Journey(Kino no Tabi). The way the ideas were presented in this anime is fantastic. And it doesn't have a ton of fanservice or harem stuff to throw you off. The animeation is a little weird and may take time to get used to, but if you're a person who loves things that make you think, then go for it. It's highly episodic and episodes may not necessarily have a link, but so long as you don't hate that kind of stuff, you would probably enjoy it.

About a kid who gets a phone that can predict the future and competes in a competition to become God (Haruhi, cough) alongside the most famous yandere ever: Yuno Gasai. For the gore-loving/romance/fanservice/partial humor/angsty anime watchers.


The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-

Starts off with Kyon, who becomes a freshman in highschool. In the beginning, he explains that he always knew Santa wasn't real. Way to ruin your childhood buddy. Anyway, he meets Haruhi, (GOD COUGH COUGH) an insae chick who thinks she'll find aliens, espers, and time-travelers. But what dafuq happens when they turn out to be real? For the comedy/supernatural/slice-of-life watcher.

Bakuman is a good one. It's about two students working together to become a professional manga artists, one who specializes in art and one who is an aspiring writer.

The anime tells how mangas are made and how difficult it is to be a mangaka. It keeps getting better every season. Highly recommended.

But, for the sake of wanting to be a smartass, this is about a guy who gets sucked into a virtual world and is stuck there. Sadly, he is straight. And so is his female partner. Season 2 wasn't that phenomenal, it was more "eeeeeeeeeehhh" than "HOLY MOTHER OF HARUHI ADTSGFHNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG"
For the gamers/romance/comedy lovers. Contains a little strip-tease. Bwahahaha. Sadly, it is for the straight male character (DAMMIT!)

I recommend you read (this year its gonna be an anime) Silver Spoon. Mangaka is Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist Mangaka).

Hachiken Yugo is a student in the city who transfers to an agricultural school, where at first he finds really difficult. There he makes a lot of friends and finds out he has changed because of this.(it doesn't en yet!)

Unlike Fullmetal Alchemist, the setting is in Japan, and all the characters are high school students who have dreams of doing something agricultural related. It is also a slice of life manga, and is a really funny manga but there are some sad parts, but just like Fullmetal Alchemist it is very heartwarming and a really nice manga :)

I need some helf with Horror animes I can't really find any and i really want to watch one because i havent yet... So if anyone has any recomendations that would be great.

If you want a really sad/adventure/mystery anime I recommend K Project. It may or may not be a tiny bit Yaoi, but only if you think it's Yaoi.

Hikaru no Go - Shindou Hikaru, a 6th grader, finds an old go table in the attic of his grandfather's house. He sees some blood stains on the go table, and tries to wipe it off... when a ghost dressed in Heian period clothes pops out, and takes over his body/starts haunting him.
The ghost happens to be Fujiwara no Sai, a member of the court during the Heian period. Sai was one of the two men who was assigned as the go tutor to the emperor. The other tutor was envious of Sai, and challenged him to a go match -- whoever wins gets to stay as the court's go master. Sai's opponent cheats during the match, and before Sai could say anything about it, the opponent accused Sai of cheating. Sai was banished from the court, and because of regret and anger, he committed suicide. But as with all unrepented souls, Sai was unable to leave the material world... until he is able to master go, and get one step closer to 'kami no itte,' or god's hand.

Kingdom - Millions of years have passed since the times of legends, when the worlds of man and gods were still the same. In these times it was the desires of man that moved the world. I would definitely recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion. Alot of people have mixed feelings on the anime itself. But i personally enjoyed it. However, i recommend that everyone watch the Evangelion rebuild movies (it's similar to Hellsing ultimate meaning they re did the series in hour and a half long movies).

The titles are:
Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0- you are (not) alone
Rebuild of evangelion 2.22- You can (not)advance

They are currently working on dubbing 3.0 in english though it is out for English subs. And the final movie 4.0 is being worked currently in japan. But it is a great anime to watch :) (WARNING: it is definitely a 17+ anime because of language, blood, explicit images, and a few scenes of nudity, but it isn't the worst when it comes to nudity. It's not flashing it in your face for example).

Toradora is a great tsundere romance.

I'd recommend Angel Beats to anyone that hasn't already seen it. Definitely one of my favourite series.

Not too many people find it all that great, but personally, I've fallen in love with the title, Aku No Hana. The first episode or two isn't very intriguing, but once you get into it, there's nothing but brilliance, and more brilliance. I can't entirely explain it well... Like most things for that matter. ^^; It's more so one of those kind of things you have to see for yourself. It's a lot of psychology and the sort. o:

Arc the Lad - fantasy, action:
The story follows Elk, a bounty hunter in some strange futuristic world. On this world archaic but advanced technology exists side by side with primitive attitudes, beasts and magic. In other words it's got a bit of everything. It also has an evil conspiracy who are able to produce powerful monsters called chimera, who can also appear as human. Naturally it is not long before Elk has rescued a young female beast-master and gained himself some serious enemies.

Alright, looking for a new anime to get caught up in.

Preferences: I do typically enjoy fantasy or sci-fi based anime. I like it to get "mature" (by which I mean intense fights, swearing, and dark plot/subplots, not nudity or ecchi although I don't care one way or the other if it's in the show). Also I do like a lot of humor. Harem I'm indifferent to (it does create love rival comedy, though, which I find quite funny)

Some reference anime I do like: Gundam, Sekirei, Sword Art Online, Rosario Vampire (the manga more than the anime, but the anime was funnny enough), Fairy Tail, FMA: Brotherhood.

Recently, I've found myself wanting to see more focus on groups that are different then the main ones. For example, the Varia from Reborn and the Akatsuki from Naruto. These groups, while serious and powerful, had a certain kind of humor at some points. I'm currently trying to find anime that focuses on groups similar to the examples above. I would appreciate some help from like-minded Dollars.

Everybody should experience Fairy Tail and A Certain Magical Index at one point in their lives. Both are really good and can touch anybody's heart.

Attack on Titan is all the rage though chances are you're already watching it, Hataraku Maou-Sama and Senyuu were both great comedic deconstructions of the demon king vs. hero trope, Tamako Market was great for da moe, and Problem Children Are Coming From Another World was underratedly entertaining. I thought I would recommend Kids on the Slope, It's a pretty great show about kids growing up and playing Jazz. The show is set in the near past and is a total emotional roller coaster, the English dub just released recently too for people who prefer that

I strongly recommend Steins;gate to anyone who likes sci-fi thrillers. This anime has to do with time travel which makes for some very interesting plot. This anime is an anime that has pretty good plot at first and then out of nowhere will surprise you with intense and unexpected twists. Even if you don't typically watch sci-fi thrillers I recommend this anime to you. Please give it a try and if you don't like it after watching the first 10-12 episodes I would be extremely surprised. After watching this anime I have been struggling to find another that is better but there is nothing quite like it. This is easily my favorite non mainstream anime.

I've recently finished this anime Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteru. This one is golden. You might think this is your typical RomCom (Romance Comedy) anime but it has so much more to it. The story follows loners, the pragmatic Hachiman Hikigaya and beautiful Yukino Yukinoshita who despite their varying personalities and ideals, offer help and advice to others as part of their school's Service Club. It largely depicts various social situations faced by teens in a high school setting and the psychology driving their interactions.
Main Characters :
Hikigaya Hachiman (比企谷 八幡) - A loner who believes that "youth" is simply an illusion created by hypocrites, for hypocrites, born from the ashes of past failures. He is coerced into joining the service club by his futures advisor in the hopes that exposing him to the world will change his personality, and ultimately make him a "better person".
Yukino Yukinoshita (雪ノ下 雪乃)- She is from a wealthy family, smart, beautiful, and is nicknamed the "Ice-cold Beauty" for her icy demeanor.
Yui Yuigahama (由比ヶ浜 結衣) - She is a cheerful, outgoing girl who becomes the service club's first "customer", asking them to help her bake cookies for "a certain someone".

Here is another good anime - Devil Survivor 2 : The Animation, often mistaken to have a first season, Devil Survivor 2 is the only season of the anime (For now), which is based off a game, Shin Megami Tensei : Devil Survivor 2. The anime is something like Mirai Nikki x Digimon/Pokemon (of the sort) but with more plot. Personally, I played the game, which was very addictive, I liked it more than the anime since the anime omitted out some pretty important parts and was rushed. Nevertheless it's a good anime.
Sypnosis :
The story revolves around a mysterious calamity which plunges the world into a state of chaos. This causes Hibiki Kuze and his friends Daichi Shijima and Io Nitta to be suddenly thrown from their normal lives into a battle of survival against creatures called Septentriones which were sent by the alien entity known as Polaris to destroy the spiritual barriers protecting Japan from a recreation tool known as The Void. Gaining the ability to summon demons from a cell phone app, Hibiki and his friends team up with an organization known as the JP's to protect Japan and above all else, survive.

The next anime I'm about to recommend is Puella Madoka Magica. This anime, on the first look, is usually mistaken to be one of those superheroines saving the world with all the flashy skills but actually it is listed under Horror, Supernatural, Psychological. Why? Watch to find out.

In the series' continuity, there are curious creatures that have the ability to grant young girls any wish they desire. However, in exchange for having their wish granted, that girl must become a magical girl tasked with the duty of fighting against witches, evil beings born from despair that are responsible for unexplained accidents, murders and suicides.
In the city of Mitakihara, the incubator Kyubey encounters a 14-year old girl named Madoka Kaname and her best friend Sayaka Miki. This small, cat-like creature offers a contract in which a girl can have any wish granted in exchange for becoming a magical girl tasked with fighting against witches. Meanwhile, a transfer student named Homura Akemi tries to stop Madoka from becoming a magical girl at all costs. As Madoka contemplates becoming a magical girl, she learns that a magical girl's life is not as glamorous as she thought and is filled with anguish, suffering and despair.

Can someone recommend an anime that either makes people cry or feel extra happy? I'm in the mood for those types of anime right now.

For anime that make people cry, I don't know of any that are like that throughout the entirety of the series, but the ending of Chrono Crusade is a pretty big downer. It fits, but it's still a sad ending.

Akagi-A guy named Nangou is playing a mahjong game versus the local yakuza. He has a debt of 3 million and if he wins the debt will be gone but if he loses they'll kill him and get the money of his life insurance. So when he gets very close to defeat and is desperate a 13-year old guy, Akagi, knocks and goes in the room where Nangou was playing. He is the ckicken game survivor and is running form the police. That night a legend was born.

This anime is one of my favorites but it's going to be a little tougher to understand it if you don't know how to play competitive mahjong. I learnt it by watching the anime 2 times and if you ask me it's wirth the trouble.

Gyakyou burai Kaiji-It's about this guy, Kaiji, who co-signed a debt and god tricked. Now he has to shoulder a 3 million debt and goes to a boat named Espoir and if he survives(they're gambling on the boat but not normal gambles but a special gambling game) a night there he'll get rid of the debt and possibly earn some money.

This anime is also good it has 2 seasons and I reccomend it.

The plot of DtB can be very difficult to follow at times, but it's very interesting. My favorite part of the show is Hei (the main character). He's one of the coolest anime characters ever. And he's kept mysterious, they don't tell you exactly what he's thinking and doing all the time.

Attack on Titan is an action on-going anime that is all about three main characters killing giant titans. And Anohana is an amazing emotional anime that if your like me, make you cry and laugh and have many mixed emotions:3 But it is an amazing show that reminds me of Clannad:3 OH.
