No Samurai Champloo thread? There is now!!

Mugen's a buck wild warrior - violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin - mysterious, traditional, well-mannered and very strong as well. These two fiercely independent warriors can`t be any more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy waitress, saves them from being executed when they are arrested after a violent swordfight. Fuu convinces the two vagrant young men to help her find a mysterious samurai "who smells of sunflowers." And their journey begins. This is a story about love, friendship and courage... fuck that, this story is about fighting, corrupt government, sex, and religion.

Granted, it doesn't go too deeply into the government/religion thing... then it'd probably end up being boring...

Seriously, an urban-style samurai story? Fuck yeah!
-Fight scenes- Epic & well done, orgasms to the eyes.
-Music- Amazinggggg, orgasms to the ears.
-Characters- Awesome, likable, & fun to watch (Great English VAs)
-Story- Great original story, great comedy & action along with serious scenes that actually build tension and get you attached to the characters.

If you like fighting/samurai shows, this is a god damn must-see. I loved this series, and it loved me back. Check it out if your interested! If you've seen it, lemme know what ya think.
-26 episodes long.

I remember this, but it's been a couple of years since I watched it. This had to be one of the most over-the-top shows I've ever seen, but that makes it all the more awesome. Besides, since when have you seen a samurai graffiti battle across the entire exterior of a Japanese castle?

There are a some things out there that you think could never work together and samurais and hip-hop would be one of those things. Except that they apparently work brilliantly if put together in the right way.

After combining space bounty hunters with jazz in Cowboy Bebop he then comes up with this. I have to say, Shinichiro Watanabe is a god.

>>4 Thank you, sir.

I can't help but hope that someday he'll make another anime. Maybe he's just gathering up his creative juices to finally produce something incredible.

Regardless, here's a piece of soundtrack, for people to enjoy.

I always liked the style and intro but I never actually bothered to watch the series. Is it really that incredible?

>>6 It's...it depends on what your tastes are like, with regards to anime genres. I imagine Samurai Champloo is a series that generates quite polarised opinions when it comes to how people feel about it after watching it.

Sorry for double posting, but, just wanted to say, if you're thinking of watching it, give it till about five episodes or so till you decide whether to pick it up or drop it.

10 Name: Jinkusu : 2011-07-06 23:52 ID:xspIG97l [Del]

Currently watching, it's pretty awesome.
Mugen has the same voice actor as Zorro from One Piece and Hijikata Toshiro from Gintama.

Just finished. It was wonderful. Wonderful doesn't even begin to describe how amazing this whole series was. The story moved along nicely. However, there were some fillers; but I think even the fillers had substance.

There were moments when I had to pause the video to laugh; one moment when I literally almost died choking on an ice cube from laughing so hard. There were moments when I fuckyeah'd (usually during the fight scenes). There were moments when I learned a little something. And there were moments when I cried. I bawled during the last episode, haha.

This is the sort of anime that really sucks you into it's world, you know? It's got this...magic to it that makes you fantasize and wish you were a part of it all. Haha, at least for me it did.

I'm also a big Nujabes fan and hearing all of his works I have past heard many times over in countless of Champloo scenes made me incredibly happy. On top of that Shing02 one of my favorite rap artist of all time and it was a joy to me to listen to him spit in the OP. The music used throughout this whole anime fit my tastes perfectly, I couldn't have asked for anything better.

I don't mean to hype it up, and if you think that I am then I'm sorry if you feel that way. Quite honestly, I absolutely fell in love with this anime

So, this is kinda old news but its pretty sad. The producer of the OST for Samurai Champloo died. So all that badass music, will remain unique to this show. Just thought I'd share that. Also if you haven't seen this, there is something wrong with you lol..

What the hell...
I just finished this series and it turns out that Fuu was only 15! Jin was 20 and Mugen was 19. I kind of expected them to be older. Good Anime though.

>>29 lol...I don't think I've ever actually looked into their ages. They're about where I pictured them though, except maybe Fuu, I think I gave her a couple more years.

Well just watched the 1st episode of Samurai Champloo... and it was tight! The Op & Ed themes rocked, the action was tight and the Eng VA were good. I plan to finish watching it all by this Sunday. Here's hoping its as good as it seems to be!

Ok so I was on TVtropes and from there I ended up on this site, which is pretty darn old, but I got some nice things from it so I thought I'd share.

It takes each episode at a time and explains what is or isn't an anachronism and why, giving out some nice history facts in the meantime.

There's also a section about dating when the series takes place. I had always assumed, without knowing much about Japanese history, that it takes place somewhere in the 1800s just before the end of the Edo Period, mostly because of all the western influences and that baseball episode. A closer look at mentions of historical figures or events in the show, the setting turns out to be much sooner, in the late 1600s.

Another thing I really enjoyed reading about was the speculation about Jin's background and how it's reasonable to assume that he is a member of the historical Takeda clan (most known for their notable role during the Sengoku Period). The emblem on his kimono is essentially the clan's mon/crest and the whole idea adds some interesting layers to his character and motivations, which I'm not in the mood to list, but you can see here lower on the page.

These are all things that were most definitely noticed and talked about in other places too, but I never actually looked into any Samurai Champloo things on the internets before or given certain things about it much thought, so there you go.

44 Name: Kaisuke : 2013-10-31 05:12 ID:VM47yJ// [Del]

nice one >>43 bang-bang, to be honest when I watched samurai champloo I thought it looked much early than 1800, there were some clues here and their in some of the eos, I think it was part of the japanese isolation period 1635 - Jul 8, 1853.

I absolutely LOVED this anime. I fell in love with the characters so much and didn;t just cry at the end of the last episode; I sobbed my heart out the entire episode. The music gave me eargasms to the point where I downloaded the songs. Oh my Aunt Matilda, this anime... just... completely amazing. Such good animation, wonderful actors, intriguing plot. Kept me guessing, kept me excited. Made me think about what kind of life I want to lead.

Samurai Champloo was one of the first anime I watched and really loved although I am not the biggest fan of the action genre and hip-hop.
Definitely one of the better anime directed by Shinichiro Watanabe!
By the way, the studio Manglobe that did SC is bankrupt and will no longer produce anime...

I was skeptical to start Samurai Champloo last summer, but I am so happy that I did. It is such a fantastic anime and I wish more people watch it because of how good it is. It's sad that more people aren't watching it just because they aren't hip-hop fans. I'm not a big hip-hop person either, but I absolutely loved this anime and still do!
