I heard about it very very alot and sometimes even felt angry about it, like "...is that thing really2 damn good?!", cause they compared it with K-ON and Toradora. Then started this year, i watched it and it really made me cry, ALOT~! (esp.season 2, dang!)If you love these two, you gotta love Clannad too.

Great choice, I love Clannad. To any who didn't see it, I'd recommend it but only if your ok with a slice of life type anime. This anime teaches so many deep things, but the sequel: Clannad - After Story is the one that's going to make you cry the most. This is one of the few anime where I actually cried with the characters, despite being so sure ahead of time that I wouldn't.

Yeah Clannad is just win. For me it was a bit hard getting past the first (Fuko) arc; it just seemed so....derp.
But after that, it was just wow. And After Story, god your tears will break your keyboard.

5cm/sec is the greatest masterpiece by Shikai Makoto-sensei!!! It is really really beautiful and tear-jerking! I cried especially for part two and again for part three!!!! I learnt something very very valuable from this movie: NEVER HOLD BACK IF YOU LOVE THAT PERSON!! NEVER!!!

Yes, the last two do seem to be out of place, but if you think about it hard it may make sense depending on who you are. Elfen Lied does have a theme of redemption running through it with Lucy struggling with her affection for Kohta against what she did and how to atone for it (although this is much stronger in the manga). Trying to achieve that redemption with all the shit that was going down actually makes it quite touching for me.

And School Days - oh, good old School Days. It's less the anime itself but that it was produced against the grain of usual programs that makes it inspiring for me. The producers could have decided on one of the two main heroines, or even tried the successful harem route, but instead they decided to subvert the usual harem tropes that go floating around and show you how people would react if the main character pulled that shit in real life (even if everyone was yandere to differing degrees). It's programs like that that help restore my faith that everyone isn't blinding themselves with sugar, happiness, and idealism (and a fair hint of stupidity).

I totally agree with Clannad, Ef, and Air. My top 3 emotional anime, AnoHana is up there too.

Anohana would have been on the list but i felt it tried too hard in a way. i loved it and it would take 7 spot if this was out of 10 or something and 5 CMPS was great but i felt that the characters did not act the way normal people would have in some situations.

Angel Beats! by far, i am not a very emotional guy, but the ending was a tear jerker.

The only anime that ever made me cry was Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. And i don't cry often. Tsubasa was just out of this world... So many different tales all bound into one main story. Not depressing, just sad and touching at the things you would sacrifice. ;;

I can't remember any touching anime's...but I remeber when L died, it didn't just touch my heart, it punched it 8( or when Teressa got her head chopped off and Claire cried, me and my guy friend almost cried too :')

Well I just finished 5cm per second... It's safe to say that jut earned a spot in my top list.

Just saying this but still, for those who havent watch CLANNAD, might as well start to watch it. I'm not speculating anything about the anime, but if you really wanna watch something that will change your view about how touching animes can be, I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU WATCH THIS ONE. AM BETTING ON IT. ^3^

Touching? I haven't really watched anything "touching" more like "hella depressing." "Grave of the Fireflies" was the most depressing shit I ever watched.

I found AnoHana very bittersweet since I'm oceans away from my best friend and the person I like(d)... And since that anime was about friendship and past loves and everything.

AIR is definitely up there, quite the touching story. A lot of shows have their moments though. Its really all about making the viewer/reader care about the character(s) and their plight. Some of the more emotional moments in Hanasaku Iroha would perhaps be good for reference as well.

IZU, I have agree with you on the #1. I have both seasons of CLANNAD on DVD and even though I've already seen it before getting it, I watched it with my boyfriend. I cried both times and he cried when we watched it together. After Story is so touching. ;_;

Hmm, if AnoHana were to compare with Clannad, i'd say that Clannad is more tear-jerking than AnoHana. AnoHana was very refreshing, kinda like its more reminiscing about childhood memories. However, if only each of the characters didnt put up faces denying Jinta, it would be very touching,and again am quite disappointed regarding the hero himself because he didnt put up a good fight in defending Menma's existence. The ending is very sweet, but not touching enough cause i would say Toradora's is sweeter than AnoHana and i cried more.

Death Note's ending is kind of frustrating to watch, I guess I'd consider it sad too.
Angel Beats comes fourth. Though it was disappointing to know that it turned out to be more of a love story.Well, point is, it was tragic.
Maybe d. gray-man comes fifth not because they did not lose or someone died for what reason. It just ended with the Noahs partying and Allen staring at the frame and the exciting part suddenly cut off and all. Just thinking about those is sad enough.

Mine will have to be Elfen Lied. Didn't cry at all but it left me really sad and yet happy.
The other two are movies but oh well they made me cry.

Touching? hm... uh... i guess i don't know what i'd call touching. i've never really watched any anime that are strictly "AW THATS SO SWEET" all the way through.

Oh, i love kimi no todoke. i read the manga though. I cried every volume.

The only anime that has actually choked me up a bit was Toradora. Then again I usually watch action. Either way, Ryuji and Taiga forever.

Hands down Nabari No Ou it is the only anime i cried on almost every episode. Nd bawled like a baby on the last episode. Its beautiful and no matter who you are this anime will make you cry and cry. Its so meaningful and sad sad sad......the main characters had the sadist story out of them all.

Though melodies takes a big psychological step from memories, these both of them are really great dramas.

Oh my god. Romeo X Juliet. Saddest. Anime. Ever. I have been depressed and crying for WEEKS! And I'm a happy person who never is upset! I love the series SO MUCH, though. So cute and lovey! Its so sad that I got a group of people together who haven't seen it yet and just watched the last episode, and they all were watery eyed, crying, and sobbing.

Touching? Eh it sounds a little fruity.

The only animes I've ever watched that I thought were... "touching" was Angel Beats and the original FMA. I actually felt for both of their main characters, given that that all three got effed in the butt pretty bad (not literal).

Clannad was fairly touching, but it seems to me Clannad: After Story was way more emotional. (Clannad: After Story being my vote for most touching).

Of all the anime I've seen (not much, to be honest...) I would have to say my top 3 touching anime are Clannad (including After Story), 5 Centimeters Per Second (the first episode was my favorite) and the Underdog Hikaru No Go. The last one is a bit weird but I seriously was touched by that show.

Most of the anime mentioned here I haven't really watched (since I don't like watching these types, gives me a heartache T.T). Thus so far it's Ano Hana for me. Watched it twice, cried almost the whole last episode both times. Even the ending theme left an impression on me.

They kill off almost every character in the most freakin' horrible ways. Not as in torture horrible, but as in emotional horrible. It's just... just... NO. I mean, a lot of animes are worse, but this one bothers me in particular. This anime had really likeable characters, and watching them die just isn't fun.

Hrm. A lot of people put Nabari no Ou, but it wasn't that "sad" to me. It had a couple heart wrenching scenes near the end that had us fangirls screaming, 'YOITE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!' but the majority of the series wasn't that dramatic.

So far,Angel Beats! is the only anime has made me cried.I don't watch many animes though i read many mangas
