If you haven't started watching it you really should. The cover for the anime is a trap. The description is a trap. The opening is also a trap. This isn't some Moe magical girl anime. It shows that being a magical girl is serious business.

Got around to watching this about two weeks ago too.

So yeah. Madoka was... totally not what I was expecting. I was surprised. In a very good way. Definitely not your typical Magical Girl show. It was actually rather dark, and oh man. Spoiler things that threw me for a loop. I'd have to say, I liked just about all of the characters in the series, Kyubey included. The only thing that bothered me was the art, but I watch things for story, so.

Just because this is one of the most epicest plots in the werld. People should definitely watch this. o3o

The official english dub has the fabulous Christina Vee as Homura.

I definitely like this series more than the traditional Sailor Moon style magical girl idea. Unfortunately, I was forced to watch it by a friend so I didn't get as interested as I might have...I will probably re-watch the series and pay better attention though

This show seriously creeps me out. I mean, I tried watching it because it was recommended to me, (by a dude, mind you) but it's just.. Let's say you take Higurashi's violent nature and add some Sailor Moon characters into it. Maybe a little creepier so sprinkle in some Ibitsu. Oh, Ibitsu is a manga, for those who didn't know.

I once heard Madoka Magica was the love child of Higurashi and Hidamari Sketch, with Magical Girl elements. I think that sums it up pretty well.

This anime made me cry. ;__; I won't go into details so as to avoid spoilers, but honestly, I'd recommend this. It's a really memorable anime and made a really big impression on me, definitely one of the best series I've seen.

I started watching this anime when it first came out expecting it to be like Shuga Chara, or Sailor Moon. First two episodes were pretty regular (except when they fought witches. Those things are creepy as fuck), but at the third episode, I was like "what the fuck just happaned."

This show was almost perfect and is great for anyone, both boys and girls.

I really dubious of this show at first because people kept calling it a trap, but once I actually watched I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend it to everyone, also I really want Homura's little shield/bomb/watch thing.

Title here is actually an easy (and probably intentional) mistranslation. The original is "Puella Magi Madoka Magica." The simplest and most common translation of 'puella' is 'girl' or 'shoujo', but the older, more literal meaning is a young female slave. Meanwhile 'magi' is interpreted here as just a person who uses magic, but it's more appropriately 'deceiver'.

So it's less "magical girl" and more "slave to the deceiver." Etymology is fun!

I watched this series and I gotta say I am never gonna judge an anime by it's cover!

This anime fooled me! The cover, the opening, even the advertisements of the anime was all about sparkly magical girls, but then when I watched the anime, it had me really think about some things about life and it also made me cry. But, this anime is really good!! ^^

I just watched the first two movies today. I was pretty (pleasantly) surprised. Despite essentially being a recap/rehash of the TV series, I thought they were almost as good, especially the second movie. In fact, some of the emotional moments felt like they had more impact on me than they did in the TV series.

I actually kind of like this anime. I'm not a rabid fangirl over it but you definitely have to applaud Urobuchi for creating such complex characters and a deep plot (for an anime) in just 12 episodes. Homura is my girl and I don't care what anyone says, Sayaka actually has good character and I don't understand what's so great about Mami.

Personally, one of the main things I like about Mami is that she seems to understand what it means to be a magical girl (in PMMM's universe) very well, even though she doesn't know nearly as much about the particulars involved as some of the other characters. Despite being very selfless in her desire to use her power to help/save people from witches (as opposed to someone like Kyouko who, at the time of the series, acts very selfishly, even letting witches eat more people so that when she kills the witch, it will drop a grief seed; it's also heavily implied--you could even make an argument it's stated outright--that the vast majority of magical girls are like Kyouko in this regard), she realizes she needs to use grief seeds to keep herself alive when she has the chance (as opposed to someone like Sayaka, who refuses to use grief seeds at all; although, the point could certainly be made that this was because of her mental state at the time, and that a more clear-headed Sayaka would likely have acted similarly to Mami). In short, she found a good balance between the selfishness of survival and the selflessness of helping others, and that's something I really respect about her character.

Also, her issues with loneliness and isolation were, to me, the most sympathetic and relatable of the various characters' tragic flaws. For me, Sayaka's and Homura's issues are right behind Mami's, tied for second most sympathetic/relatable, and Madoka and Kyouko are tied for third.

In addition, when Mami hits her high point after her conversation with Madoka in episode 3 before *spoiler*, that was one of the most emotionally satisfying scenes in the anime for me. The whole feel of the scene perfectly mirrored and carried what Mami was feeling. On a slightly related note, I think the second film carries the emotion and weight of Homura's issues better than the series (possibly because they were given more time to breathe in the film), and overall I think the first two films capture the emotion that didn't quite hit home for me at times while watching the TV series.

Madoka Magica had me hooked after the third episode. I'd gotten over my magicaf girl phase by then, so I wasn't really all that enthusiastic about watching it when my friend told me to. But after the third episode...

Yup, PMMM is now my favorite anime. I have to say that my view on so many things changed after I watched this, and I will never see the world quite the same. Absolutely amazing artwork and animation too, especially in those witch scenes. They development of the characters, as well as how much symbolism was used. This animeisvjust downright amazing in my mind.

I felt a bit of my soul die, I haven't had that feeling since clannad.

I wouldn't say the opening is a true trap. There was a pretty mysterious part where you see homura in the dark (kind of) looking pretty villainous with a setting sun despite her being madoka's friend in the anime. That oughtta provoke some thought every time you watch it, though it's only for a few seconds so there's little to nothing to analyse.

Fuck the soundtrack was great. Turned me on.

I can't call this show a modern remake of Sailor Moon now that there's actually a modern remake of Sailor Moon. But y'all should still go rewatch the original (Japanese) SM series + movies from start to finish if you enjoyed Madoka. While most magical girl series just took a couple popular tropes from it, Madoka pretty much followed SM's exact formula with new characters, including all the dark and artistic aspects that made SM so interesting (yet flew over most of our heads as kids). It's just a matter of getting past the childish cringe in those earlier episodes lol

I absolutely love it, rebellion was amazing, i just watched it last night, I cant believe how many questions I had over answers, I love the entire series and episode 3 was just sooooo good, cause its got a nice happy moe tone, then BOOM, the change of tone hits you like a ninja sneak attacked you, like "what the hell was that?", that's why I love it, magical girl mixed with depression is a masterpiece, maybe even the best anime of all time, ooo and kyubei, kyubei is so frickin evil(SPOILERS AHEAD!) he is psychologically torturing teenage girls for energy/fuel, when I found that out I was like "omg its so amazing, I know something bad just happened but its still amazing" the mystery in the show is soo good, and it leaves so much discussion even when you have answers, the ending is so great too, I love how homura put a while bunch of negative emotions in kyubei when she recreated the universe, the little c**t got what he deserved.
Again its most certainly the best anime of all time!
